blue coolant temperature light

Fabia S 1.2 12v ....So whats with the blue coolant light comming on to tell me the engines not up to temp so don't gun it till it goes out.

Never seen that in any car I have had in the past, is it just a skoda thing ?

No...quite a few motors seem to have them now in various colours. Many don't have temp gauges either, as modern motors have engine management systems that look after everything. If anything goes amiss the engine management system will let you know in good time.

As estate man said, it's because the car doesn't have a temperature gauge. It's just to let you know it isn't up to optimal operating temperature.

Its a bizzare thing though, sometimes it takes around a mile to go out and at other times it goes out after just a few hundred yards.... all when started from stone cold. I realise external temp will have a bearing on how quickly an engine warms up but surely its more than a few yards!?

those without maxidot as it's a different instrument module, so S, SE and Scout.

Obviously you could get the temp gauge if you opted for maxidot on the SE or Scout.

the light is activate when the coolant temp is under 45°C

My Greenline has the blue light. Manual just says dont push it hard or rev it too high until the light goes out.

Its usually out after a couple of minutes. Depends on the outside temp and how I drive it.

Yep, comes on red and maybe flashes, apparently it beeps at you as well......never seen it myself

But if you start the car you know the coolant will maybe not get up to temperature for a mile or 2, do you need a light to tell you that?

Another perk of having full maxidot clocks is they have a proper temp gauge!

And also when you crash there's a handy water level light that comes on, this is assisted by a big cloud of steam so you know your water is low.
