Estate rear seats in a hatch.

Featured Replies

I've given this forum a quick search and can only find speculation on whether the rear seats from an Octavia estate will fit in the hatch back. Can anyone confirm yes or no?

Thanks for the response, sounds like their a similar set-up to the Fabia then, that's my plan scuppered for now.

No they won't. Maybe the backrest will, but the bases are certainly different.

When the seats fold on the hatch, it's only the backrest which folds flat against the seat base.

In the estate, the seat base pulls forward then swings upwards, and the backrest folds flatter to the floor than in the hatch.

The mountings for the seat base in the hatch are lugs on the floor which securely hook into the seat base in the middle of the base. On the estate, the mountings are at the front edge of the seat base.

errr...the hatch has the same seat base mechanism as u've described above for the wagon - atleast in mine it does!!

"the seat base pulls forward then swings upwards, and the backrest folds flatter to the floor"

"the mountings are at the front edge of the seat base"

i can chose to simply just fold the backrest on top of the seatbase, or remove the seatbase and fold the backrest flat.

Ummm...now even I'm confuzzled, r u saying u have estate seats in ur hatch? Would be good to know as I'm looking at upgrading my interior for leather and if estate rears pop up for sale I can then consider them?!

Yep, mine do the same, seat base up and forward, backrest down

@JR RS, perhaps it only Yellow ones with DSG that do it :giggle:

In my 06 hatch the rear bench hinges up from the front so it can rest against the back of the front seats, enabling the rear back to fold completely flat down.

Mike are you saying your rear bench is completely fixed?

You do have to tug the rear bench forward slightly before you move it up...

i'm saying that the hatch seatbase "appears to be the same" as the estate hatches.

i haven't done anything, they came like that. mine is a MY11 build.

bhahhaa......u'd b surprised wat other tricks a yellow DSG RS can do ;)

Yes, on mine the seat base in the hatch is completely and permanently fixed. The only way of removing it it to yank the base up at the front, which releases the retaining clips at the front, then press down in the centre to unhook the retaining lugs that are part of the floor. I do know this as the seat has had to be removed a few years ago after a breakdown. At first we thought the fuel lift pump in the tank had failed, so we needed access to the top of the tank under the seat. And it was one bitch of a job to remove and an even bigger bitch to refit.

Well it seems like from at least 06 the design was changed to be like this:

On the estate, the seat base gently lifts up at the front, and then swings forward on metal bars that hook into loops on the floor, just under the front edge of the seat base. They can then be swung forward, or removed if the metal bars are pressed sideways and slid out of the loops. The seat base on the hatch simply has little lugs to secure at the front, and the hooks half way which secure behind a metal bar implanted in the seat foam.

...

Also note that on my estate, the seat bases are split 60/40 as are the backs, so the seats can be TOTALLY folded independently. On my hatchback, the rear seat base is in one piece and is NOT split like the backs, which are 60/40 as in the estate.

as this is exactly how the hatch works also, complete with full 60/40 split.

Strange how it was fixed only for the very early mk2s, wonder if that's how the mk1s are?

@ Mike, Perhaps these can these be altered on VCDS?

Mine moves slightly up and swings forward too.

P.S Dont take the bait from Auric please Mike ;)

Think I'll need to have a proper look in the daylight, only had the car 2 days.

May 2005 hatch here (as you know Mike :)) and the seat bases on mine flip up and allow the seat backs to lie flat.

And to just confirm on the original question, no estate rear seats won't fit in the hatch, due to a different rear wheelarch design. As a result, the rear seat design differs.

Summary:

1 seat base

2 top

3 side pads

Maybe 1 and 2 could be fitted, but 3 not?? What's the problem with wheel arch?

I saw on etka two different rear seats, "fixed" and "fold" ones, but maybe I can upgrade fixed mines to "fold" ones...

the hooks slide out from the chasis/bottom.

I'm not even going to try mine, there is two kids seats sitting in there and I'm not taking them out lol.

Many thanks,

I realised that my car has folding ones as JR RS photo. There's a friend breaking his Combi RS, I expect It can fit....

...As I never fold before, I found a coin, XD.

I have a 2008 hatch. The seat squad pivots, as it did on my 2005 Elegance iirc. I have a spare rear seat out of a facelift estate which I'm pretty sure I test fitted and it was fine. Not sure what this business about a difference in the shape of the bolsters is? Has anyone actually done it or is it rumour?

Give it a try Nick and let us know how you get on.

Rear door design is different on the estate, as is the wheelarch as mentioned. This affects the seat base design, and the shape of the seat upright.

Finally I've fit Combi RS seats on my Trend Hatch.

Front fits perfect.

Rear fits perfect (both are "folding" ones)

Fixed part on rear wheel arch fits ok, but not 100%, because there's a small space between cushion and wheel arch on the top. You can see some wires through this. Not a big headache for me. Maybe clips should be adjusted a bit more.

2p or 5p Mike?

Curious. Could have sworn even my '05 elegance hatch had the other, hinged design. I've never seen that setup myself before Mike.

All that messing about for a single penny......At least the damn thing's not rolling about now.

Mike

You've quickly become an honoury Yorkshirman Michael. All that for a single penny!
