Felicia ventilation system rumble

Featured Replies

My felicia just got another disease :/

If you power up the ventilation system it rumbles a lot. It's annoying as f***.

What breaked down now and how can I fix this ?

Thanks.

P.S: if you want I can make a video and post it here, so you will hear that sound.

Make a video showing what happens when you adjust each ventilation system knob in turn.

Any prior repairs related? Your guess (if any)?

I didn't have time before to do it, but here it is:

starting the engine was a bad idea.

the bass from exhaust covered all noise.

open top part of blower box.

take out 2 blower covers.

now you can see the motor and blades.

ignition key on.

start fan.

probable defects:

- mechanical: loose bolts, loose blades, worn axle bearings

electric: worn brushes, worn collector

Is it possible that some leaves entered in the blades ?

maybe.

but there is a hole at the bottom of the box.

we keep it clear to allow rain to flow.

take a photo and show us.

Will do tomorrow morning when I open the system and check what's going on.

I can't get to it, behind the air intake grill are 3 screws and I can't get close enaugh with the screwdriver :/

you have to take out 8 steel spring clips located around the box.

3 in front, 3 in back, 2 on sides.

they are 2 cm by 0.5 cm.

use a small screwdriver

You have the same air box as me being yours has air con the heater boxs are different to ones with out air con

I have taken all of them in the front and on the sides but I haven't seen them in the back, I have seen only 3 torx screws in the back which I can't unscrew.

I told you there are 3 more clips in the back.

they are not so easy to take out, but not impossible.

use a longer thin screwdriver.

and forget about those 3 torx screws.

you don't need to unscrew them to inspect the motor.

Will look again tomorrow, but I don't know how will I lock them back in place if I will have the luck to get them off. Because you can't see them. May be a problem.

the manual says this is how it's done.

we all did it thousands of times using our hands.

if you can't do it, ask somebody else do it.

The electrictian didn't open it, but listened to it and he said that probably the bearings are used up and that I need to replace the whole motor. The original one is 270€ and I can't find an aftermarket piece or used :/

It seems that I will have to listen to this rumble to the end of my days with this car, lol.

some parts have unbelievable prices.

like the blower motor or the mechanism for lifting windows

good news is bearings can be repaired.

they are not ball bearings, they are small brass pipe type.

any craftsman having a lathe can make it in 5 minutes.

but I doubt they are worn.

I think their outer shell is loose and needs tightening.

isn't there any good Slovenian mechanic/electrician to handle that rather simple job?

we would have fixed it ten times during this time.

Did any other car have the same part ?

The number of the part is "6u0 820 021", but I can't find it anywhere, so I thought if maybe golf mk3 or any other car had the same part I could look again with different part number.

There aren't much good mechanics here where I live. But I know a good craftsman with a lathe. So it is 100% repairable ?

If it is I will try to get it out and take it to the craftsman to inspect it (if the screws bill be ok).

Thanks, but this isn't the same as mine, because I have the model with air con. I have the same one like the one that uma1998 posted before.

hi i dont know if i might be of any help but i found this blower http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-01-Skoda-Felicia-Blower-/230826102965?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35be4ed0b5&vxp=mtr on ebay that is usually present in the aircon version maybe it fits yours?

ofc you could always dismantle it and check what is actually wrong with it

I have seen this one, but it's from israel, I would have to pay some customs duty too and if it comes broken or something it wouldn't be good.

Well the last resort is locating a place that breaks up cars and check if he has the blower.

Are you sure that the fan motor is shot?   maybe it needs a good clean and oiling up.

I had acquired a Felicia blower that was stuck but i managed to dismantle ,clean it and it's working like a charm

Comparing uma1998's photo with those that dohnjoe posted I think the fan unit looks similar - you can see the same shapes in the casing at the air intake and back to where it mounts to the bulkhead. If it is then you may be able to use or adapt parts from the standard system.

Listening to your video again the noise seems quite irregular. If something was caught in the fan I'd expect it to be more rhythmic wouldn't you? Makes me think either the motor is loose or the bearings are worn. Is it called "end float" when the axle can move back and forth along its length?

I'd persevere with trying to get it open if I were you. You may be able to tighten down the motor mounts or re-pack the bearings with a thicker grease to dampen any movement. The fan assembly itself isn't that complicated.
