Felicia ventilation system rumble

Featured Replies

Comparing uma1998's photo with those that dohnjoe posted I think the fan unit looks similar - you can see the same shapes in the casing at the air intake and back to where it mounts to the bulkhead.

I thought it is only me that sees that...

but we're struggling ourselves in vain.

the owner can't open the box.

local mechanics advice without opening the box.

is this a Slovenian pattern? :)

btw if the owner buys a new motor blindly, I wonder who will replace it?

open sesame...

 • I uploaded some photos for you. hope it helps understand what is in there. http://radikal.cc/users/dohnjoe#alb=fanblower

 • I didn't have time before to do it, but here it is:

 • starting the engine was a bad idea. the bass from exhaust covered all noise. open top part of blower box. take out 2 blower covers. now you can see the motor and blades. ignition key on. star

so why doesn't he open the box right now?
any lemming can replace things.
let's see how good he is at repairing.
you make me come there and fix it in an hour.

Because he didn't want to open it without another one to replace it, he told me that you can't fix it, so I told him than not to open it, so I don't pay him for nothing.

I took some photos of the back side of the ventilation system:

There are no clips on the back side, only the 3 screws I told you about.

the book says so:

- Disengage vacuum hoses for servo brake and activated carbon canister (applies only to Mono-Motronic) from heater unit with evaporator.

- Remove heat shield.

- Disconnect electrical connector on fresh air housing, push rubber bush into housing.

- Release connecting rod.

- Remove fresh air housing (3 screws, 8 clamps).

in case you can't reach the 3 screws, you either don't have the right tools (wobble extension) or the entire blower + controls must come out first (detach controls then the nuts from firewall)

I managed to get the motor out and the bearing is the problem. Because of the space in the bearing the blades are scraping on the housing of the ventilation system, sadly you can't repair this.

I got another air blower, but it isn't the same as mine. Pics below:

This is mine:

And I got this for a repacement:

It really seems that I don't have other option that buy a new one for 270€, which I won't do, lol.

I saw the entire topic you give up too easy.

everything is repairable.

good luck!

I ordered a new one from a Czech website for 95€ with postage included. Let's hope all will be ok:)

But because this Felicia has a problem always, a new one showed up. The horn is not working anymore. A few days ago started to behave strange, it was working only with contact on, but car not working, now the horn is not working anymore, with car working or not.

What could be the problem ? Some fuse ?

S17 (coolant fan, horn, headlight flasher)

but fuses don't blow without a reason... so investigate.

your Felicia might break often because she is missing TLC.

Headlight flasher is that light in the car ?

TLC ?

I'd understand the headlight flasher to be when you pull the control towards you and it flashes the main headlight beams.

TLC is just tender loving care but it sounds like you already give yours its fair share of attention.

This is when you pull it up to warn someone on the road ?

I think my car gets too much TLC than, all the regular services and some irregular too were done by professionals, and it is in the family from the beginning, with only 118000km to this day.

headlight is not the light above your head.

that is called interior light.

so headlight flasher is the circuit that flashes the high beams when pulling the left lever towards steering wheel.

The fuse is ok, headlight flasher is also working. What else could be wrong ?

check in turn all electrical devices

each time you check one device, try the horn too.

for instance:

- push brake pedal, try horn, release brake pedal

- turn side lights on, try horn, turn side lights off

- turn warning lights on, try horn, turn warning lights off

and so on

if after all checks the horn is dead, then most probably the horn connector is corroded or the horn itself is dead.

in case you're wondering why this method, we're looking for a bad ground.

a good idea would be also to start the engine, start all electrical devices (including headlight flasher held on) and try the horn.

 • Author

I tried to power everything on and than try the horn, but it's not working. Where is the horn connector and horn itself ?

Is it easy to check this or is it better to drive to an electrician?

wait, there is one more possibility.

the horn switch on the steering wheel is loose.

I forgot about it.

One new problem with the ventilation..it's barely blowing in the cabin, at max speed too. What could be the problem ? The motor is working as it should, because you hear it.

Faulty shutter for airflow and it's always closed or something like that ?

What could be it ?

it's very simple.

blades are mounted backwards

motor spinning backwards

or both

How could have a new air blower motor mounted the blades backwards ?

And you can connect the connector only in one way, so I don't think it can be spinning backwards, but I will do a test with 2 wires to see what's going on..

Nope, it's not spinning backwards..

mate, first of all I'm trying to help you

second of all, you had good air flow with the old fan, but noisy.

you had the blower case and flaps in front of your eyes

so I and everybody else guessed all is fine.

and you said you only took out the fan.

so really... what other LOGICAL explanation comes to anyone's mind when you put a new fan

and don't have good air flow?

the new fan blows in reverse.

we have seen another member that observed his cooling fan blowing in reverse

(due to his faulty installation) after we scratched our heads on his car overheating problem.

so instead of bickering try to investigate deeper.

jesus, it's a blower, not a SS nuclear missile...
