Are you saying this is 2 seconds once the engine has fully stopped turning?

Its the thing with a flying saucer on top at the back left of the engine.  The black boost pipe comes up to it from the front offside corner of the front bumper, and does a right turn in to the EGR.  However, if the engine has turned off for 2 seconds, i.e is "dead" I don't see how the EGR can be to blame.  In theory it has done its job of shutting the car down, and I cannot think where there could be a pressure to release somewhere after everything has shut down?

Does it sound more like it's stalling when shutting down, than actually cleanly turning off? :)   If so, then that is EGR I think.  I'd be tempted to unbolt it and see how cacky it is inside.  Car high miles?

Just tried it now it's as the engine is shutting down

If its the egr / anti-shudder (faulty) it wont 'cough' on shut down every time. All depends what position the engine is on shutdown. Sometimes it will shut off cleanly, other times it will shudder.

Good time to ditch the egr / ccv.

If its BLT engine (2006/55+) its electronic antishudder valve and you can check its operating by removing the corner pipe at back left of engine before egr, get someone turn key back and forth from position II (without starting engine) and you should see it open and close.

My BLT also makes a noise about 2 seconds after engine has fully stopped, a sort of quite quiet hollow deep inhilation, like the release of a vacuum, rather than detonation or run-on. My anti shudder valve is working fine by the looks of things and still makes this noise.  I initially wondered if its the opening of the anti shudder valve releasing a vacuum after the engine has ceased that causes it.

If its any help I suspect my EGR is thoroughly gakked up judging by the gak caked on onto the ASV flap.
