  1. So I've added a new profile field. It's a bit tricky, so I'll do manually per planting cycle. You can't edit it, only I can. You'll see it under your profile and along side content you post: Ecologi: My Trees. I might alter it slightly during the day. It will open your trees in a new window. What I may alter it to is a link to a page with people on, which will also link to your trees. See, if, you brought more next week, you'd have two... three and so on. So a page showing planters, and then maybe a link, might be easier. But that's a future problem.

Cutt Mill just outside Sturminster Newton, this Mill has been around since the early 18th Century and ravaged by 2 fires, the first being March 1817, the Mill was rebuilt but its believed commercial milling ceased in the 1920's, the building was set upon by arsonists in 2003 and has lied in ruin since.

  4. Cars are configured differently. Your Fabia might have a boot nearly as large as the Kodiaq, but it has nowhere near the space in the front and rear seats that the Kodiaq has. I suspect that with the rear seats folded, the Kodiaq beats the Fabia for space. Also, the measurement you were given is with the rear seats pushed all the way back. There will be more space when they're pushed forward. I have a nice trailer you can buy if you want more space 😉
  5. If you look closely the excess strap I’ve popped in the pocket the actual straps are tight and can hardly see them tbh from that angle. They are nice and tight - it’s the same install as yours. I’m anal about car seats hence why she’s rear facing and will be till she’s not able to go rear facing due to out growing this seat

The 3 dished mountings will have fractured, its taken them 2 decades of continuous research to finally come up with a steel able to be made thin and brittle enough to hold together for the warranty period before self destructing, previous attempts were not so successfull and some made it to quite high mileages and even failed through corrosion €10 or so will get you another tin foil like chocolate teapot, remove caliper & disc & then the 3 mounting screws to remove the remains of the old one & refit the new. Check the others carefully, they will go the same way.

  10. There’s quite a bit of space to the sides of the basic square floor plan as you move upward (and the plastic “walls” of the side bins come out). Also, the 5-seater has a great depth, from floor to top of rear seat. i suppose there’s no substitute, really, to going along in your Fabia to a dealer’s and comparing the two - climb in and see how it feels.
  11. Got him back today 🥰 Genuine Skoda Motorsport S2000 Evo 2/3 bonnet Really happy with how the car is now pretty much perfect to me now. Not sure what to do next with it so think its time to just enjoy it for a while and have fun with it before deciding on the next stage of it.

    ngabriel, some items can be levered from either end, some start from one end, specifically and will be tougher if tried the wrong way. Just be gentle and if you use something plastic, its generally softer so won't scratch the surrounding surface. Otherwise its just "Suck it and see". I will try having a little look in the Haynes manual later, to see if there is a removal procedure but today is the hottest day of the year and I will be "Pretending" my garden is the beach, with my family!
  14. I own a 2018 Octavia vRS 4x4 Tdi, currently on 20200 miles and I decided to have the Haldex serviced (gauze clean and oil change) and good god am I glad I did. As you can see from the pictures the gauze (which on the gen5 is the only accessible/ changeable filter) is completely caked in gunk and to be honest will most definitely been having a negative effect on the 4x4 system. I strongly recommend you service yours at least at 20k intervals - certainly for the gen5, can’t speak for others! Got mine done at Darkside Developments along with a remap but I’m sure most VAG specialists can do it.
  15. Last week the wife's Citigo, 9K miles old, 66 plate started creaking in the OSR corner. Not an uncommon prob it seems. NSR all quiet. Pointless going to Skoda despite the low miles so decided to investigate, thought this would be of use to others: Removed the damper, greased the dry rubber top bushes and steel sleeve. Re-assembled, no change, maybe slightly better, but marginal. Removed the damper and took the car for a gentle drive around the estate, a route that had the creeeking. No noise whatsoever. Plastic trim cover still off the car. Replaced the damper so the car can be safely used, creeking back, trim cover still off the car. Replaced trim, same creeking as above. Thus, 2 new dampers just ordered, £52.80 Skoda quality slipped down the ladder I think, my Superb could be due to be replaced, 14 plate/61K miles, perfect 4x4 Tour de France, but doubt the quality of new Skodas. Small things that go wrong pre-maturely just turn you off. Wonder if Skoda thing about that? Will up-date when new dampers are on both sides (of course).
  16. Delightful! Very refined! Lovely colour, fantastic classy combination with the beige interior. Understand totally why you fell for it! Mine is a Black Magic combi also with beige interior. I love it. I care for the leather once a year with a 2-stage leather care 'system' - first with a brush and foamed saddle soap - restores the colour (jeans denim blue rubs off on the beige) and the matte finish and then I seal it to protect against colour transfer for 6 months or so. Now 3 years old, still looking like new. All the best, Rob in Switzerland.
  17. I did that initially but prefer not to do this as don’t want to damage the leather - plus means I can’t move the seat at all if I wanted too. So I fit the tether loops. By fitting these the front passenger gets quite a bit of extra room. Had the rails been a tad longer would have been ok to tether around them but they are too far underneath. I nearly got that seat but went with the Max Way plus. She’s only just 3 but 21.5kg and 103cm. She’s going to be a tall girl but dads 6ft5 so that’s why - where as I’m Yoda

  20. I thought I'd close the loop on this one to say thanks to everyone who responded, I splashed out the Victron IP65 Smart in 12V 10A guise in end. After nearly 20 hours charging across 3 days it was able to restore the battery to what seems to be full charge, which I was doubtful it was going to be able to do initially! 😀 Really pleased with the unit - seems really well put together, the cables are well made and the connect system so you can swap crocodile clips for another attachment, insert extension cables etc is nice. Unit is also somewhat waterproof apparently - I declined to put that to the test! I was a bit sceptical about the Bluetooth connectivity (unit is clearly aimed at some more static or marine applications I think) but it was handy given the time it took to charge etc. It meant I could monitor what it was doing and get some reassurance it was actually charging the battery etc. without having to go and look at it. Just sat near enough my window whilst working that I could check the status on my phone every so often Anyway, thumbs up from me for the unit. On to the next problem not moving for 19 weeks has caused... Cheers, Steve
  21. ngabriel, if you have still to do the job, Haynes manual suggested method is to unclip the circular clip/frame that holds the gear gaiter to the console, then put your hand inside, to push the clip out from behind. The gaiter frame is fairly easy to prise up, just by using your fingertips.nails but again. be careful not to break it. I popped my clip off yesterday, just to try and it is easy enough to get access to the switch but I did not try to push the with out. Luca3, the same method should also allow access to the teo heater switches. I only have blanking covers there as I don't have heated seats (Boo) But the method should be the same.
  22. SORTED! I have a Monte Carlo that is as silent as a dead mouse. Found out what it is gents. I took the damper dirt/dust/bumpstop cover off the new damper on the rear driver's side, the creaking side that was not fixed with a new damper set. I removed the thin plastic sleeve off the steel top disc (wriggle until it is off) to bare the bump stop. I then cut the bump stop shorter by 15/20mm and re-assembled the lot back into the car. The plastic sleeve simply taps back on over the steel disk, friction fit. SILENCE no matter the speed or road surface, just like new. No creeks when you pull away, no creeks when parking etc. The Monte Carlo is lowered by the factory by 10mm over a standard Citigo but they left the bump stop length the same, the nose of the bump stop 'just' contacts the top of the damper body and you get a creek-creek at low speed. With just the driver in, the contact surfaces come together more than the passenger as the suspension sags under the weight of the driver. Did the passenger side too so to even things up though it was silent. Anyway, this is my proven fix to the car's issue. The car still has the collapsing bumpstops so safe it just comes into play with greater suspension deflection. I'm sort of happy Spent £60 on new dampers where not needed and with 60mins under the car, a sharp blade, you can fix this issue. German engineering is lacking in places. Hope this helps others out there!

  25. @AJAMESR I understand your dilemma completely. My 190tdi Sportline is coming to the end of its PCP this month and there are currently no direct replacements. Was onto Skoda Ireland to as the new Euro 6d engines are coming to the superb by the end of the year (200 tdi and 280 petrol) but was informed that they do not have any plans to offer any changes to the engine line up this year. They also told me that Information on the new Octavia will be released in Sept, if that is of use to you. Completely agree with regards to the iV, stupid money tbh, the situation versus the UK gets even worse when you consider the discounts that can be got versus list price, you will not get those discounts over here in Ireland but you may get 0% finance deals. I have decided to do as @Markbro has suggested and bring a car over from the UK. The sweet spot appears to be the BMW530e, 1 year old M Sport can be got for less than €35k cleared with less than 10k miles at auction, considering this car is upwards of €63k new over here that is a hell of a bargain. Some reason the 5 series seem cheaper than the 3 series hybrids. Now I don't have a trade in (friend is buying my car) and I have another friend that imports off the auctions but there are companies that will source cars from the UK, offer finance and take the trade in but I suspect trade in values will be significantly lower. Don't know what Brexit will do to the secondhand car market, its possible that vat and additional import tax will be need to be paid from Jan.
  26. Buy a 6 month old in NI or mainland UK? It will need to have min 6000km on the clock aswell afaik to avoid VAT. VRT on some of the phevs is very low, check 225xe BMW for example on VRT calculator. You might be able to get a better deal that way. Alternatively buy the 1.5 at €36k (rough estimate) and see how the pricing of both the Superb and Octavia go over the next year or so. Best of luck!
  27. The pick-up strainer that takes the oil up to the oil pump. That may be all that needs doing, if it's significantly blocked up by solids that have accumulated over the years/kms. Clean or replace, depending on replacement cost/availability.

  29. I once checked my oil on my previous Octavia 1.9 TDI before setting off to Germany from York. Drove down via Dover, did 100mph+ on the Autobahn, and drove around a couple of days (total of about 800 miles later) and checked the oil again to discover I'd left the cap off! Was a bit of oil splatter but it was fine. Bought a new cap from a local car place, topped up by a tiny bit and all was well. The warning light and judder is due to the engine sucking in air where it shouldn't. So there is suddenl more air entering that hasn't come via the air flow sensor so the ECU is confused and puts a warning up.

    Yes I suppose that’s comparing apples to oranges as my SIII with Columbus and SIM slot may well be a different configuration to other people’s cars. Due to the car’s age, I can’t get the remote locking but the park position etc is part of the ‘other half’ of the package. I will probably only stick with the RTTI info part going forward.
  32. As long as it had sufficient oil remaining and there are no knocking sounds from the engine, it should be fine. Hopefully the judder stopped once you replaced the oil cap, its absence would have caused an uneven tickover. Hopefully the EML light illuminated because the onboard diagnostics saw an imbalance caused by the missing oil cap and will extinguish or it needs a VCDS reset.

    Just had a look and no mention, however I have been using the "apple" ones I bought last time there was a promotion for over a year without any problems on both the Octavia and Superb. As above the Apple one was the "premium" good for -15 so will keep what I have left for the winter months and use this for summer time. Yes they both smell nice 🙂 John

Something else a lot of folk don't want but are expected to be excited by when the next model update dispenses with a proper handbrake. Hey Skoda how about doing something really nice that wouldn't cost any extra - not just a proper handbrake but a proper fly off handbrake - that would be a real selling point. (Aye, I know, not going to happen.)

I have successfully fitted the RHD AL footrest for the Mark 7 Golf - bit of a faff to fit, but it goes in eventually - see item 15400526889. £18.99 post free, came in 3 days via Coalville! Ive FINALLY placed my order for a leased 1.5 tsi DSG SE Technology, in Quartz Grey, after must tooing and froing, due to there being no Skoda Estates in my previous spec , which was the 2.0 TDI SEL and agents trying to sell me a different car. On paper this one ticks all the boxes and is within budget. I should know tomorrow when it will be delivered.

  45. The amount of steering assistance is controlled by firmware, so it's entirely possible that the setting in the SEAT and the Skoda will be different - given that SEAT is aimed at a more sporting image.

The wheel hop is one of the reasons I switched from my 2017 336bhp Vrs245 to a 4WD Superb 272 for the infinitely better traction. Much more fun when you actually move forward rather than bounce up and down like a demented Mexican cartel leader.
  47. ... me being the owner just for the last 4 years. Anyways, I've decided to share an update with the people here, in case some of you are wondering about the rust and the underbody on the Skoda Superb II, aged 10+. Two weeks ago, my car's wind-shield and a rock the size of a golf ball met at 130 km/h, guess which of those got the short end of the stick. To be honest, after the initial hit, I expected major cracks on the wind-shield, but it wasn't as bad, and it was in the lowest possible spot of the wind-shield - I could've probably driven some more around with it like that. But, since I've already prepared myself for repainting the roof of the car (some damage to the very edge of the roof towards the front, couldn't be repaired/painted without removing the wind-shield completely), I've decided to take the plunge and have the car "refreshed" a bit - something I've decided on a long time ago, but was aware that I'll be without the car for almost two weeks, and never had the time to do that before. The car now has 208000 km, nothing major regarding maintenance, just regular work done by myself (including the gearbox and Haldex oils). Some bushes and joints have been replaced though, on the front and rear suspension (due to rattles and thumps while driving). What I've decided on doing was to have the hood repainted (small scratches, chips and rock craters on it, nothing major, but ruined the front end of the car if you have a keen eye), the roof (already explained) and the rear bumper (because the clear coat started to come off, probably due to pressure washing, and I've had several hits to the rear and the paint having a circular like crack - looked funny, probably a car reversed into me and slightly bent the bumper, the plastic was ok, but the pint chipped in a circular fashion), including the side-skirts, and the rear wheel arch towards the rear passenger door (some damage to it as well, the previous owner "fixed it" like a 3-year old would). The new wind-shield is genuine, didn't want to go with cheaper ones, because the genuine one proved its sturdiness on multiple occasions, even survived a rogue toll ramp which came down on it and nothing broke (except the ramp). I've also asked the garage to do some touch-up/polishing of whatever they can do with the car while it is there. After they lifted the car, and started doing work under the car, they suggested to bitumen coat the underbody of the car - completely. Mostly due to rust. Yes, sadly, rust started to appear (not much actually, if you consider a lump of metal being on the road for 12 years). The secondary benefit of this procedure (which is yet to be tested, since I'll be picking the car up tomorrow) is lower road noise, due to the bitumen coating on the wheel arches and below the entire car. Bottom end - 8kgs of bitumen was applied to the car. If the thing ever catches fire, the wheel arches will be last thing standing ... 🤣 The photos show the "show", so enjoy.
  48. A correction to this. Skoda Works was privatised in 1992. The Czech government sold their remaining 49% stake in the early 2000's. Since then there were accusations of financial irregularities as the company appeared to have been controlled by a number of shell companies once the state sold their stake. Even the Czech police couldn't get to the bottom of who was ultimately controlling the company! They sold Skoda Transportation in the early 2010's and it is now owned by a Dutch group (controlled by a Czech). From what I can see they have also bought back some other parts of the former Skoda works. AFAIK its quite an embarrassment for the Czech government with a once great state enterprise sold off in bits to the highest bidder at considerable profit versus the price paid in the privatisation. Whereas privatisation seemed to work well for Skoda Auto (and Karosa), it was arguably less successful for Skoda Works. Škoda made the hub and spindle for the London Eye. At the time it was supposed to be the only place in Europe capable of fabricating components of that size in a single piece IIRC. I have a book about the construction somewhere - must dig it out!
