  1. Looking good, and it was good to meet you at Combe. Quick question, how did you remove the plastidip from the paint but not the badges?

  3. Last weekend I got a fridge/freezer in my Octavia mk3 estate. The freezer was about 5'10" tall. I had to move the front passenger seat all the way forwards, but the boot wouldn't quite close, maybe 1" to shut. I think I might have just got it shut if I'd have tilted the front seat forward. Maybe with no rear seats and the front all the way back that'd work. I've just had the thought about removing the front seat, but I wonder if that would cause issues with airbags.
  4. Doesn't sound low to me, to be honest. I've read a few threads on here that suggest the second hand values of the Mk3 Octavia aren't great due to there being lots of them! If the car you're interested in is £30.5k, it obviously has a lot of options, which count for nothing at the end of a pcp. For what its worth, my vrs tdi was £26.5k new, I've got a final value of £10.5k at 3.5 years.
  5. Haha, I can understand the lack of patience! I can also understand the 'removeability' of the DTUK box It does seem like the Ad-blue is a bit of an afterthought, but it doesn't seem so on other models.
  6. How does a remap or tuning box affect the Ad-blue system? Genuinely curious although I don't have Ad-blue. Does it measure something in the exhaust and add the required quantity of fluid? Part of me wonders whether it is worth getting some confidence back in the car before modifying, but that's just my view! I enjoyed the previous Yeti project and looking forward to seeing where the new one goes
  7. Are they bolt through, or bolt on spacers? I also assume you are selling 2, and they are 16mm each so 32mm over the axle? Thanks
  8. Tailgaters!! WHY!! I've had two today. Once on my way to work, and on the way home. The first one was literally sat 3 feet off my bumper, but made no attempt at several safe opportunities to overtake. Mind you he was driving a Vauxhall Adam, so can't enjoy driving around.
  9. The car is SORN'd at the moment and isn't used, so if it takes a while that's not an issue. Thanks for the hints and tips too, in many ways I like the idea of doing it myself
  10. Ouch indeed. Fortunately (if I can say that), I bought it as a Cat C in November as a project. I am now weighing up my options!
  11. Right, about time I updated this! I can't be bothered tonight to write a lot of detail, but since my last update I have cleaned the interior. It started to go mouldy, I suspect through not having any windows for a while. So I hired a carpet cleaner with an upholstery attachment, and set to taking the interior out, vacuuming and wet vacumming as I went. I also sprayed the fabrics with some anti bacterial spray with no bleach to try and keep the mould at bay. I quite liked the stripped out look! The water in the wet vacuum was disgusting, but the inside of the car was clean. It hasn't gone mouldy again either. It then got left for a bit due to wet winter weather. Then 2 weekends ago I set to changing the slam panel which took a whole day due to the whole front end of the car having to come off. It now bolts together much better, but I wish I could change the alignment of the front grille relative to the bonnet! Then today, I changed the engine oil and filter. The oil that came out was very black, and didn't look very nice. But it seemed to sound better with new oil in. However, its had a rattle during engine acceleration that I must have missed when I bought it. I had ignored it thinking that a good service etc may improve it. This doesn't seem to have been the case. So I took a video and put it up on the Fiesta ST owners forum, and the consensus is that the bottom end is goosed. Video below if you're interested. I was revving it between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. http://vid1342.photobucket.com/albums/o763/meb90/EY55ATN%20Pictures/2016-04%20Rattle%20videos/P1010258_zpskyfq2qv7.mp4 So, I am now weighing up what to do! I think my options are: - Chuck a second hand engine in - Rebuild the current engine myself - Rebuild the current engine at an engine rebuilders - Buy a rebuilt engine and chuck that in - Break it, and buy an ST that works! I like the idea of rebuilding the current engine myself as I haven't taken an engine apart, but I need to think about it for a while. Anyway, I'll stop writing here! Matt
  12. On the Fiesta ST: Realised the bottom end might be very broken :(
  13. Thanks for clarifying. I'm new to this Quidco lark! Thinking I'm going to buy the bits I need tonight Stupid question - I get the 19% cashback offer, but what is the 25p one? Is it literally getting 25 pence for using the offer?
  14. BOOM!! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/327797-where-has-this-piece-of-plastic-come-from/?hl=%2Bfound+%2Bseat+%2Bwhere+%2Bfrom#entry4058746
  15. I was having a look last night too. Do you think that means that you can use the code 'discount20' with ECP give you anyway, but you won't get any cashback through Quidco?
  16. If you get the warning, and it shows all four tyres as being red then its more than likely a system error. Best practise would be to check the tyres anyway, and then reset the system. If one tyre goes down, it does tell you which one on the screen. I've got a slow puncture on my rear left and every so often the car tells me (I do check and then re-inflate the tyre) The system works through wheel speed using the ABS wheel speed sensor, rather than a special valve etc. So swapping wheels could cause an error if they have slightly different pressures or wear.
  17. Definitely normal temperature. In normal driving I've seen mine anywhere between 85 and 110°C. I'm pretty sure the oil is cooled by the water anyway, so its never going to be much cooler than 90°C
  18. Posted to get updates, interested in coming Any idea what time of day the meet might be at? Matt
  19. Sounds like a 'Stage 1' remap, where no parts are changed, just the ECU software. I'm sure if you were to change things like the intake, turbo, and exhaust you'd be able to get more power?
  20. Another vote for hiring a carpet cleaner. I cleaned the interior of my Fiesta that had gone mouldy and had some stains I didn't think would come out. They look really good now. Just make sure you get a small implement, rather than a big one for floors!
  21. Hello Richard, I'll give you a reply if you'd like. When I ordered my VRS TDi manual estate, I was considering 2 other cars; the Audi A3, and the Seat Leon. I decided that the A3 was too expensive, and the interior of the Leon wasn't to my liking. Both the girlfriend and I agreed the interior of the Octavia was nicer than the Leon, but not as nice as the A3. I bought it because I liked the look of it, and as I was doing about 18,000 miles a year the mpg figures looked good too. I got the estate as I much preferred it over the hatch in terms of looks although I didn't require the space. I like the engine, it is more than fast enough for me, with plenty of torque, but will return good mpg if driven carefully. It is good fun to drive too. Also, the space of the estate has come in useful more than once! I don't like the niggles that the Bolero head unit has. Mine often doesn't recognise my USB stick, and the screen can be unresponsive in cold weather. However I believe I can get this sorted under warranty. However this is pretty much the only niggle, my car hasn't suffered with any of the other major issues that some have had. To live with, its great. Fun when you want it, but happy to potter about as well. It has never let me down, the only issues I have had were dealer related. The transport blocks were left in one of the shock absorbers, and the engine sump plug fell out! I've never had an issue with the DPF either. Running costs are really good I think. £30 a year VED, and I am averaging 52mpg, which is not far off the official figures. I've not had to spend any other money so far as I got free services included when I purchased. It has definitely lived up to my expectations. I would recommend it to people I knew. Next car? Not sure as yet. I've got 18 months left on my PCP. I'd really like a MK3 Focus RS, although I'm sure I'd miss the space and mpg. However I'm very tempted to keep the car as it is so good. Regards, Matt
  22. Today I acquired a driving companion: We then went shopping and I managed to find an excellent parking space so I didn't get dented:
  23. Mine is in sport all the time. I'm averaging 52mpg over 32,000 miles, so I don't think the mode makes any difference, only the way you drive it. I like the quicker throttle response of sport over eco anyway. Car is a VRS TDi manual estate
