Service costs - 35000 miles?
Yeah, I've used Kwik Fit for mots before. I'm sure they'd try it on a bit with an older car, but with a newish motor you'll be fine. Main dealers are very expensive, and in my experience, no better for the extra expense. Surely that is a diy job. Takes 2 minutes and will save money. I replaced all 3 blades on my Astra for £7.33 from Ebay seller All Car Parts Limited.

One less Roomster
So sorry to hear of it, nasty thing to have happen. Roomster laid down it's life for you, can't ask anymore of it! Good car.

Service costs - 35000 miles?
The MOT can be done anywhere. I used our local Council facility, and they cost just £40. If it were me, I'd get the oil&filter, and the brake fluid done by a vat garage, and then do the rest myself. Air and pollen filters have to be easy enough to fit youself, save a fortune. Same too with the plugs.

Thank you for posting! I love the shape of the early Octi. Any ideas when you might get it on the road? I wish I could help you with the spare. Might it be worth trying a Czech forum?

Buyer's remorse, please help.
The car gets good write ups. It doesn't sound like you have made a terrible decision tbh. Ultimately you have replaced your mass produced German car for another mass produced German car, albeit one with a Skoda badge. Relax and enjoy!

How much for?
Problem is, you don't often realise what it is until its too late! Or, the debris is much bigger than it first looked. I've had similar with road kill, thought I would clear the remains only to hear a sizeable 'clonk'. Fortunately not had the problems you've experienced, but it can happen all too easily.

At 27k miles, the seat belt should not be in that condition. If you are happy to have the vehicle repaired, I would very closely inspect every single part of it, and form a list of defects and evidence with photographs, and then insist they are all replaced. For example, that seat belt looks like it belongs on a car that has covered some serious mileage, not a nearly new 27k motor. Same with the plastics you have photographed. Just my opinion, but they knew the car was in that condition. The seat belt as a case in point, they let the car out of their workshop with serious fraying. Sorry for your grief, but that really is very bad practice from the dealer.

Emissions "fix"
Your best option is to have a read of the numerous posts on this subject by using the search facility on the forum.

That is absolutely appalling. Sorry to hear of your experience. The dealer knew full well what damage that car had before they sold it. If the deal could be reversed, eg get you old car and money back, that would be the route to take IMHO. I may have missed the info, but how many miles has the car done?

Sorry to hear of the grief, and hope the bill is smaller than you fear.

Sorry, I have no idea where you might find some Andyroo. I do however think it would be great to start your own thread and post some photos of your fantastic '61 Octi.

E10 fuels
I agree, the Citigo is a much less complex machine and all the better for it. The analogue simplicity was a major attraction and part of its charm, although I did treat myself to the posh one with heated seats and air con!!

is my handbrake sticking?
Yeah, completely normal, and usually worse when its been raining.

A very different market to ours. From an engineering perspective, is it a problem with o rings and fuel lines etc or engine internals ?? @e-Roottoot I didn't know that, thanks. Sounds like I've got some reading to do! I had a Citigo for 18 months, really economical car in which I once acheived 81 MPG

There used to be vehicles in South America, namely Brazil, that did so. The Beetle being a case in point. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1092181_a-brief-history-of-ethanol-in-brazil

My MK1 Octavia 1.6 had many tankfulls of E10 during its many Euro trips over the years, and I didn't notice any difference at all.

Basic Aerodynamics question - Bikes Roof or Back
That's a really good point. I think you may need some additional marking. Not sure if they are compulsory, but you do see a lot of European vehicles with a red and white board.

Considerations for removing the battery?
The box they are delivered in, is also very useful when it comes to getting your old battery to your local household recycling centre.
