  1. Absolutely! Scanning the road ahead, and remaining very alert. The biggest difference to car driving and biking, is the risk. As a biker, you are so much more aware of what will happen if it goes wrong. The idea that some roadside tech can mess with my car......... PS: Nice car you have. Miss my Mk1.
  2. We know this for sure, because they have proven it to be true time and again over the years!
  3. You make some good points, eg staged licences, pass the test to get access, makes total sense. Having a full bike licence, I appreciate the difference from my L--Plate days on my Kwaka 125, to my current Honda CBF1000. As you say, power is nothing without control. Lunatics and bad driving are across the board, bhp has nothing do with it. There are utter pillocks in all sorts of machinery! We need a lot more enforcement on our roads, another 100x Octi VRS. Having covered 50k in Citroen 2CV & Dyanes, I can't say that I ever felt unsafe because of the limited power. Unsafe because of the lack of crash protection most certainly, but not sub 30 bhp power reserves, Has power ever got me out of trouble? Do you know what, I can't say that it has. Defensive driving is what I practice daily. I've enjoyed big speed, but mostly, safety and defensive are my priorities. As I said, our roads down here are too busy to use power.
  4. Welcome to the Forum Nice looking motor. Looks like you've got all the info and help you need. @e-Roottoot fantastic post.
  5. Welcome to the forum. I was reading recently about a new Lada Niva, and mention that it might be imported into the UK! Exciting times. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/new-cars/2021-01/avtovaz-has-started-production-of-the-new-lada-niva-travel/
  6. That does sound very nice this time of year.
  7. I have owned and driven more powerful cars, but both of our current cars are just under 100bhp. Ideal for lockdown and the limited journeys we do at the moment. I often wonder what would happen to the accident rate and environment if there were a mandated 60mph and 100bhp? I think things would improve significantly. That said, in the south east it's so busy on the roads sometimes, it feels likes being part of a Brio train!
  8. 100% agreed. And please GovUK, do not contract the job out to the likes of Serco or Capita. It'll end up in a call centre in a far off land............. If it does become law, will it not make owning a car with above about 100 bhp all a bit pointless?
  9. Find out the diameter of the hole required for the parking sensor and get a drill bit of the same size. You could use a plastic storage box as a 'practice bumper' until you are confident. Youtube has lots of tutorials on this sort of thing. No mechanical knowledge is needed.
  10. OMG Technology too far. I get what they are trying to do with this legislation, and yes it will save lives. However, these words from the article make me anxious: "speed sign-recognition camera and/or GPS-linked speed limit data" and "systems do not automatically apply the brakes, but simply limit engine power preventing the vehicle from accelerating past the current speed limit unless overridden" I read that as external technology devices will be able to remotely control power from my engine. Does that sound safe? Does it chuff. System trips out or has a malfunction and I'm left in lane 2 of the M25 with a 44 tonne lorry inches from my bumper and 'big brother' decides it's time to reduce power!
  11. LOL, Fairness and Marshall in the same sentence! I'm pleased you get on with the Croydon branch, but I can only speak as I find. The OP had an issue with them, and you can see for yourself what happened when they took over the Progress Skoda dealer group. Marshall are now too big to care.
  12. Sorry to hear of it, and sadly so typically Marshall. Total waste of time. I wont bore you with my tale of woe, but the Approved Used car I bought from them in 3/2020 had a massive list of faults, some dangerous. Complaints are not dealt with, even by their unprofessional franchsie Directors. Shocking shower of *****
  13. I packaged mine up securely and the post office weighed it on their scales. HTH
  14. It's Marshall !! Terrible company that shouldn't be in the business of selling cars. Did you ask them about condition of the car before you viewed it?
  15. Buy a standard one and drill holes?
  16. £500 does sound like a lot of money to honest. If it were my car, I would lift the carpet up, remove the foam from the car, and then dry it indoors. Removing/lifting the carpet will be straight forward. Then use a dehumidifier left running overnight to dry out the carpets after having first removed as much dampness as possible with towels. HTH
  17. A lot of dust can gather inside the drum in a year. They are super easy to pop off and shake the dust out of. The internal surface of the drum then just needs a light sand with emery cloth. Have a look on Youtube for a tutorial on how to clean drum brakes. No more difficult than removing a road wheel. Warranty? Brakes are wear and tear, so I dont think that will be an option. Final point, how hard do you apply your hand brake? It only just needs to hold. I leave my cars in gear when parked and dont apply max pressure/force to the handbrake. HTH
  18. I had the sensor housing go on my Mk1 Octi 1.6 as per attached photo. Is that the part you replaced? Cost me about £35 IIRC My Mk1 always lost a little coolant, probably similar amount to yours. It never bothered me to be honest and fortunately never got any worse. I Had the car for 12yrs. My solution was to carry 1L bottle of coolant in the boot and check the level before every journey.
  19. Great post. Good to hear the old Superb is looking after you with 400k on the clock. I still think the Mk1 Superb is a good looking motor and has aged very well IMHO. Reminds me of when the starter motor was on the blink in Trirumph Dolomite years ago. Had to park on a slope, which can be harder than it sounds in Suffolk!
  20. Whenever I need to do a job, I like to have a look on Youtube to watch a video showing how its done. I have linked an example for you. Aldo, do search forums for advice. NB Octi is same as Golf 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJaWOSa-OGU Nope. Yep. As per my previous post, contact them and ask!! 01773 535638 - [email protected] https://www.ecutesting.com/contact-us/ HTH
  21. I don't really buy that to be honest. Our VRS had 225/40-18 tyres, weight 1350kg and had 200 bhp and same-ish torque. That car is now 15yrs old. I might be wrong, but it does sound like driver being heavy footed. Take me for a drive, and I'll let you know if it's man or machine causing the wheelspin! Mind you, I passed my test in a 998cc Mini Mayfair and my first car was a Morris Marina, so the limits of traction were very apparent. As @IJWS15 drivers rely on electronics too much. There must be lots of drivers on the road that have never driven a car without abs/tcs/ebd/kfc/xds fitted to a car, so have no point of reference.
  22. We ran a MK2 Octi VRS pertol manual for nearly 3yrs. It had regualr Dunlop Sportmax tryres all round, and whilst it could wheelspin, it wasn't something I couldn't control even in ice and snow. Like the man in the pub mentioned earlier, in 31yrs never had a problem and I've run vehicles from <30bhp upto 500+ bhp/tonne. I note that the OP car has a DSG gearbox. Could this be the cause? Does the DSG not allow sensitive use of the throttle? Is it part of anti stalling software? I read the info in this thread about tyre technology. Are modern tyres really being made with less grip than the summer tyres of only a few years ago? When did this change?
  23. It never fails to amaze me though, the number of people that don't see an emergency vehicle coming! @VRSfan_78 Keep up the good work. Hope you and your collegaues stay safe in these covid times.
  24. Nice car, and all the toys in Elegance trim. You'll not run out of room with all the baby stuff. I remember having to sell my Mk1 Focus as the boot was too small for the buggy and stuff. Ended up in a MK1 Octi, massive boot and all the room makes life a lot easier.
