  1. Excellent result !! Nothing like fixing a fault yourself. Just imagine how much that would have cost at a dealers with new parts !!
  2. This tires me out just thinking of it !! Fair play to you though, a lot of dedication.
  3. That is a fine looking car!
  4. They couldn't buy them at auction for that price! Jokers. Used car prices are very firm at the moment. The trade are paying over book for most things and are sourcing cars from private sellers. Rather than Pex, try advertising the car at retail - 5% or so and see what happens. Tootle is a good car buying service and will get you more than WBAC. https://www.tootle.co.uk/
  5. Hello estragos and welcome to Briskoda!
  6. Reliable - Japanese petrol cars will always be the most reliable. Honda Civic 1.8? Not an estate, but very clever seats and roomy boot. Avensis Estate? Expensive - Jap cars can be expensive for parts, but you're not likely to need any. Soul destroying - Personal perspective. I tend to buy lower value cars out of choice, so its 'blandness/aesthetics' is frankly irrelevant when spending such little cash in my experience. Let us know what you choose in the end.
  7. Sorry to hear of it, very stressful. I would be asking the Police what evidence they have.
  8. Thinking back to when I had my MK1 Octi, I recall the hazard warning light switch failed. This created a problem with the indicators not working properly either. When the hazard light switch was replaced (it just slides out of the dashboard) the indicators and hazards worked again. Found a new one for <£10. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-SKODA-OCTAVIA-MK1-MK2-HAZARD-WARNING-LIGHT-SWITCH-1U0-953-235B/143376464072?fits=Model%3AOctavia|Plat_Gen%3AMK+I&hash=item2161e738c8:g:ELUAAOSwKf9dc92G HTH
  9. I had similar in a Saab years ago, and it turned out to be a loose/badly fitting relay. I would start my search by checking the relays and fuses.
  10. If you plan on keeping the car, I would certainly get the oil and filter changed every 10k or yearly without fail. It only costs buttons to do and is so much better for the engine.
  11. Agreed. My Citroen 2CV and Dyane were unstoppable in snow. High ground clearance and 30bhp are ideal.
  12. I would disagree. In my experience, the lighter the car, narrower tyres and the less power all the better. That said though, I've yet to get stuck in any snow or ice I've driven on in the last 31yrs. Technique is by far and away the most important part.
  13. Sounds like time for a proper 'italian tune up' to see if that helps.
  14. Weight is your enemy when driving on ice and snow, the lighter the car the better.
  15. I would monitor it as you say, and find a second hand one on Ebay to replaced it with.
  16. Good way to pass time in Lockdown! I think it's normal. The fronts need to be easy to remove for repairs, the rears less so. I believe they use carpet type material for sound proofing puposes.
  17. Pleased the mot went well. Always a releif !! With the rattle, it might not be as bad as you think. You know how it is with noises sometimes, once you've heard it, you really tune in to it. Still, be worth getting a second opinion though.
  18. It's a shame. Sometimes we all need to call time on a car, but I reckon too many people are sold on the idea of a new car. Wouldn't be my choice. From an environmental perspective, you are bang on. It takes so much energy and resources to build a new car, never mentioned in the s****y TV adverts.
  19. Welcome to Briskoda
  20. Be cool to see some photos of Skoda in India. The cars will look familiar, but the environment won't! No.....don't do it. You have a better built car than the newer ones. Much, much less to go wrong too. Don't do it
  21. I would. I never trade in, ever. Even if it only makes a few hundred quid more, its money in your pocket. Selling can be hard work with some buyers, but I vet them on the phone before viewing to make sure they are serious. Lots of free places to advetise, well written add and some decent photos, it wont hang around long.
  22. Mrs W often moans about a strange noise coming from the speakers. She's not a Slayer fan!
  23. This is fast becoming my favourite thread on Briskoda. Loving the stories of long term ownership!
  24. That is a really good point. They don't just change parts because a customer wants them to, someone has to approve the work. You shouldn't have to, but if it's really winding you up and the dealer is not fixing, you could replace them yourself. CarParts4less or similar will sell known quality parts cheaply enough. I would be tempted for the sake of £60 to fit Pagid parts.
  25. Yeah it does. I believe there is a window of 30 days for their website to be updated if you read the small print. I would see that as a result and keep the car far far away from a Skoda dealer!
