  1. Had to google what that was. I bet your 10yo loves that! Digital whoopy cushion, now that has to be a good use of technology!
  2. Welcome to Briskoda As the Scala is so new, I would expect the Rapid to be easier to find and repair as it's an older design. Have you bought and repaired cat S/N cars before?

Original fuel filter and 4 year old diesel? Sounds like it to me. When you do get the car going, take it for a decent run and then give the poor old thing some new engine oil and filter for the sake of £40.
  4. What sort of horrible person does that to a car? What is the point? Sorry to hear of that. £450 doesn't sound bad to me, I would be very choosy on who does the work though. A poor colour match is going to show, so I would only entrust that to a proper body shop.
  5. Better the devil you know than investing in the unknown.
  6. Worth checking hose joints. Pink residue is sign of a leak. If you can, put a sheet of cardboard under the car overnight, it might point you in the right direction of the leak.
  7. No worries. It will say 1) the fix has been done 2) fix has yet to be done 3) vehicle not affected. Shame you need the vin. You can also check all VAG group cars for the EA189 on their websites. Audi do it from the reg no, or at least did last time I checked a car. If it's had the fix, I just walk on. Too many horror stories for me, even with the 2 yrs warranty. HTH
  8. With the VIN you can check the status here http://skoda-recallactions.skoda-auto.com/en?s=D&cd=1
  9. Just a thought, did the water pump get replaced with the cambelt? If it didn't, did it get disturbed enough to create a leak?? I had the bouncing needle in my Mk1 Octi. Tempertature sensor was the cause. Easy and cheap fix. HTH
  10. Best to take it out again. Make sure there is not debris underneath or an obstruction, and then re-fit. These things normaly have one way of fitting back together. Autodoc video might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMbpm0EG8rM
  11. Whenever I sell a car, I still put up an A4 for sale sign in the car. Old school free advertising!
  12. Ask them. It's your car, and you need the answer! Try email if you prefer, so you get it in black and white. They must know what they are doing to it. I'm not sure that a timing belt should be reused at 4yrs old anyway. If it is timing belt, I would ask to buy a new one from them and have it fitted whilst they are doing the job, NB: If you have the engine code, you should be able to google if chain or belt engine.
  13. I'm not sure if your engine has a timing belt. You've got a low mileage car from a reputable source, are they not sharing the information with you? I would expect the after sales team to be happy to let you know.
  14. Sounds like a nervous drive home. Hope it goes well and enjoy your new car!
  15. Gumtree advert £1495 ? Autotrader will give you a weeks free advert if under a grand. There will always be a market for a cheap diesel. Also depends how quickly you want it gone I suppose, and what your new car will be and how its purchased.
  16. How many miles has your car done Shagy? Where did you buy it from? A component such as a water pump failing at 4yrs is possible. Sadly our cars are made up of a collection of parts that do occasionaly fail. If it's being repaired, all should be well. You've 11 months warranty to help you iron out any bugs your car has.
  17. My inner 12 yr old would really like a fart function. Sorry, but an electronic whoopy cushion is funny.
  18. 100% Agreed. No place in cars in my opinion. Fair enough. I suppose I may/definitely fit into that camp. For me, car spec hit its peak about 20yrs ago. Cruise control is the only thing I miss in my current cars. Running cars way out of warranty means I like to be able to repair them for as little money as possible. So, I am happy to have H4 halogen bulbs EuroCP will sell me for a couple of quid. Not just a luddite, also tight! I wish Elon all the very best and I can't wait to have a go in a Tesla at somepoint. The acceleration sounds awesome. For me, it's the thought of all this essentially untested tech fitted to 2 tonne lumps of metal on our roads. I don't trust the tech or the companies involved. Safety and lives are at stake here and when you read about Tesla and the Boeing 737 Max....... Products are rushed to market and manufacturers are far from transparent as we know.
  19. I may have missed it, but MOT length? Two keys? HPi clear? It's the right engine, good trim level and a nice colour with low owners. High miles and a DSG might put people off. Where do you see it at? Have you put the reg no in WBAC to see what BCA value the car at?
  20. Too much tech in cars. Dangerous place to have this stuff fail when your 1800kg lump of steel is covering 105 ft per second.
  21. I'm very surprised given that Volvo is synonymous with safety. Poor design that, very Mr. Miyagi I once had all the dash back light bulbs blow so I couldn't see the dials. Blue tack and a small torch fixed it for a couple of weeks until I could get the time to take the clocks out. 1991 VX Astra, took 10 minutes to do and change out of a £2. I bet Elon is looking at a slightly bigger bill with his cars and their knackered screens.
  22. Very true. Colin170CR, great post. Nice to hear a Jasper Carrot reference. I've had many of the cars you have too. It is amazing that even a boggo poverty spec modern motor has more stuff fitted that I want or need. I remember, as I know you do to, when have a passenger side door mirror fitted was posh !! Instagram and twitter have no place in cars for flips sake. I had no idea people did that. Maybe explains some of the terrible driving I see . Cars like your Rangie look very comfy. If you ever feel the need to lend one out for a few weeks, I'd be happy to put some mileage on the clock for you!! No worries. But the prospect of all that faffing about?? No way. IMy car has a radio with preset stations, a USB slot and the facility to change the channels and volume from the steering wheel, that does me fine.
  23. I just looked up a review of those. Wow! Toyota Yaris sub 6seconds 0-60 !!
  24. Not a good news story this, but too much tech? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-55662657 The Smith dials in my Triumph Dolomite never had that problem. My many Skoda's have all had proper dials and wouldn't be subj to this problem. I would be terrified to be motoring at speed and loose all the instruments in my car. Flat panel screens have no place in cars in the opinion of this mildly luddite nearly 50yo bloke!
