  1. Unusual to hear of water ingress in rear....several reports of water in front footwell (sunroof, blocked scuttle drainage etc.) but not in the rear. Spilt water, open window or maybe a rear passenger did not like your driving too much.... Be interested to hear what others think.... Dave....
  2. Hi Winmoz, I am no expert (and this is my first DSG equipped car although I have had autos before) but my understanding is that if you are being towed for a short distance (less than 20/30 miles...?) with engine off then popping into neutral is okay BUT on a FWD car thereafter the front wheels should be raised to avoid damage to any non-running gearbox (no oils moving around etc.). From what you have said the car was running all the time (and in 'Driven' mode) over a short distance so I can't quite see how any damage would have been done if you were 'driving' the car whilst being towed.... With an AWD DSG I would assume that what I am thinking above also applies as drive/power is split electronically? Is yours FWD or AWD? There is the risk of potential component damage through heat transfer if you are towed in 'N' on four wheels for more than that 20/30 miles breakdown scenario I imagine. The DSG is a complex gearbox with all its mechanical & electronic set ups. Because of that sophistication the heat transfer would be a real issue without any oils/lubrication cooling going on i.e. with engine in idle or not engaged mode (although I believe the clutch is disengaged fully when in 'N' mode?). There is a written reference in the handbook under 'Controls and Equipment ' which gives the following warning: "If you allow the car to roll with the selector lever in position N with the engine switched off, the direct shift gearbox will be damaged as it will not be lubricated". Although my manual is in French i am sure the message is the same Be interesting to read/hear what the garage says...sounds like an ECU glitch rather than a mechanical one though...so a 'reset' will hopefully cure the issue. Good luck with it. Dave
  3. Two and a half years on now No offence taken. I purchased the car with some performance modifications from new (Embrach for Skoda Suisse - and as used by the Gendarme equipped cars here - as per the signature on my posts - like ABT, AMG or 'M' tuning arms of other brands) and simply want to upgrade the exhaust for more HP, longer life (current one getting rusty around the hangers...it's the salt on roads here that kills them) and better sound sound quality, IMHO. I'm not a 'boy racer' but enjoy driving a honed petrol engined estate car from a marque other than Audi or BMW. My 1995 Lotus/Caterham 7 gives me my real 'boy racer' thrills but it does have a noisy and throaty Ford xflow engine on twin 40 carbs (no tatty sound system or 'sub woofer' - whatever that is - , no whiplash aerial or lettered windscreen though...oh, and no mud flaps - it has clamshell wings ) I feel exactly the same (depressing) when I see folk purchasing/driving diesel cars - depressing because of the pollutants and excessive service costs/recycling costs compared to a petrol but I hold my tongue and respect the personal choices others make (economy reasons, slipper and pipe point in life etc. ). So, all good, and yes, still not purchased the upgraded exhaust yet - the money went towards a used 4wd Saab 9-7x 5.3 V8 hemi powered SUV (not sold in the UK) for the good lady which has proved to be great value and fun in the snow...it's actually more economical than the Skoda on a long run (the engine cuts down to 4 cylinders on the motorways which is clever) and it makes a lovely V8 burble via the standard exhaust too... I'm still interested in getting a performance exhaust for the Superb though as I do consider myself Superb clientele.... 'suits you sir, suits you...' etc Dave
  4. Here you go Yanto.....these guys do a great service too (I've used them a lot). http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/SUPERB-II/Superb-II-OEM-chrome-headlight-washers-cover-set-original-Skoda-Autoas Dave
  5. Hi Steve - inlet manifiold as clean as a whistle and to be honest the engine looked brand new given that it has approx 70k miles on it. These V6's are generally bullet proof - I've just been unlucky. I've posted elsewhere but the Swiss Gendarme run V6 3.6 cars up past 350k kms without issue (they are now phasing out the 3.6 and moving on to 280's or the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia 2.8 awd OPC things) You moving here to live or work or both? It's expensive for sure and you need a decent salary to cover those living expenditures. At the end of a month, in all seriousness, on a par with the UK once all the bills, insurance and things are seen through. Both my wife and I work here so that makes it doable - one salary a bit tough unless you are on a ,good' package. PM me if you have any questions - been here 4 years now (in Vaud, midway between Lausanne and Geneva). Real bugger (back to the car...) was that two weeks after the engine work I got a nasty gearbox noise...thinking the worst (mechatronic etc.) it was returned..... ....Very long story short, a bearing on a shaft failed as the car was not 'reassembled' properly Another 4000chf for a rebuilt gearbox (Clutch looked new still and was not changed - my call) BUT I have not paid for it as the garage admitted that they had done something wrong. I have all the replaced parts (engine and gearbox) and it's all been very amicable - just a PITA. I have my car back now, running wonderfully with warranty on all the work and basically a 'newish' car mechanically. I love him/her/it so will just run it in to the ground now. Lease ends this summer so I can start to play with things....spied the exhaust I've been after for a while on the www (I discovered that you can't change much on a lease here in Swiss....otherwise they get arsy) so fun times ahead with luck. Dave
  6. I've posted elsewhere on here about fitting a K&N filter to the Superb (with photos). Having used them for over 30 years in cars (from early RS2000 avo and Mexicos on...) across Jap, German and American cars I have to say that I have always experienced top notch service from them. My xflow Caterham has standard K&N's on twin 40's too and they are still running fine 23 years on (with a clean every couple of years if they are lucky). Great bits of kit and I tend to see slightly better MPG (but to be honest I'm not into the pros and cons of a 2mpg gain on a tank...). On the Superb, the induction roar at full chat is lovely (3.6). Dave
  7. No worries - just joined yours sir. Like buses, nowt for a while then a shed through come through Dave
  8. I've set a 'fun' one up on Superbru - link below: https://www.superbru.com/f1fantasy/pool.php?p=11828999 Nothing complicated, just for a giggle and see how we go - it's an 'open' league so anyone can play. Pool Name: 'Unlucky ******' Code: zincslim Dave
  9. Hi folks - just wondering if anyone has set a league again for a bit of fun? I've signed up to the https://fantasygp.com/ league thing. Is anyone else playing? I can set up a league on there if interest...but we need to be quick Dave
  10. That's really annoying - they don't do the MK2 Superb - MK1 and 3 only. Humph.
  11. Most probably yes - either on existing runners or by swapping them over (but I have not done it so speculation....). Are they cheap?
  12. Car now back and running beautifully. Issue was not a mechatronic failure but a reassembly issue...thankfully no damage but I have a two year (yes, two year...) warranty on the work (a CarXpert garage?). The car is under a lease so not allowed to do it myself (or I could but I have to pay the lease off....). Anyway, fingers crossed all is good....now my wallet is 5000chf lighter (£3800) They charge 180 chf an hour labour here (£140)....barstewards! As an aside, I now have a cool box of bits which I can show the kids at school in the workshops (and then I might turn them into a Briskoda Sculpture of some kind... ) Onwards and upwards..... Dave
  13. Hi Noddy90 - I've just had work done on my 3.6 (had to have engine and gearbox out - just unfortunate....chain tensioner failed.....rare occurrence on what is otherwise a bulletproof lump and DSG 6sp gearbox) and mine has a DMF as does your 1.8 tsi (as per Chimera's post). My car has 114,000 kms on it (approx. 71k miles) and the DMF was like new still. I pondered over getting it changed, along with the clutch, but both were 'as new'....a wrong decision? Who knows, but given that the police 3'6's here in Suisse clock up 350,000 kms plus with ease on the original bits, I'm taking the chance. Again, as Chimera says, on the TSi, if it's chipped and you are giving it some beans regularly (as you should), those parts will wear more quickly. The 3.6 is relatively unstressed by comparison (can be quite a lazy lump in normal driving). But when you do hoon....it sings! Good luck with it... Dave
  14. I've had an airbag light on for about 6 months now....all working fine but I suppose until I have a prang I won't know if it is functioning or not.....sorry, that wasn't meant to be flippant but I'm treating it as a light issue not a safety issue (a plug in scan has not been conclusive).
  15. I have to agree re the white wheels. Had a set of 5 spokes on a white Subaru Legacy Turbo back in the early 90’s and it looked very nice......but it was ‘rally’ inspired I suppose.... As for Ant.....I think he is very good. I like (admire) Ed too as he has a similar background (product/industrial design) and is so full of knowledge based on ‘doing’ rather than from a book. It’s Mike Brewer that I can’t stand......don’t know why, he just grates (manner, voice.....I don’t know, he just annoys)
  16. Well.....got car back. Engine all fixed and issues there sorted. Top chain had stretched (see photo) due to failed sprocket bearing thingy (tensioners were fine) but everything replaced just while we were there... Problem is I now have (the garage thinks....) Mechatronic failure which is a bit weird because it was fine before....new oil and filter in gearbox might have highlighted the issue....so next part of the saga continues. Watch this space..... Dave
  17. I appreciate that this is a bit of a rekindled thread but I have just been alerted to this very issue on my Superb 3.6 estate....damp carpet on passenger side (my drivers side as it is a lhd car). Massive thanks to OP for an excellent write up on how to resolve the issue....(can’t get to photos sadly though....) Personally I love the panoramic roof (especially at night and winter driving...,) and it’s seemingly less of an issue on skoda than Audi’s and VW for some reason (thread/forum hunt) even though I imagine all parts are similar if not identical. Anyway, thanks again OP Dave
  18. Hi Joe. That deal in kr seems stonking value at approx £460 for the full kit. Feedback on those Ceika units in Snappers link above also very good but more expensive. Both homologated for European use. I have an eibach setup on my 3.6 (lowered 30mm) on 19” summer rims. Loaded up with 4 plus luggage the car can bottom out at high speed on motorways floating bumps at high speed but rare (affects inside of rear tyres bizarrely). Winter 18’s fine. Otherwise handling is sublime. The only other problem I have is the car bottoming out in car parks where ramp inclines are harsh....the Superb is long and when lowered it can scrape on ‘sharp’ slopes or annoyingly harsh driveways etc. Other than that, you won’t regteet it. Handling better, stopping and braking improved (although looking for a strut bar to help me a bit) and car looks better IMHO too.....good luck with it. Dave PS. Do you have the web link for that Eibach set Joe?
  19. That 1.8Tsi L&K sounds nice....I suppose driving a few will help you to decide. I only know a bit about the petrol ones and I love them - but many enthusiasts on here rave about the diesel Superb too....and a mild tune gets you significant gains it seems....decisions, decisions. Dave PS Try a 3.6 if you can find one. It might not be what you want but you'll enjoy the drive
  20. That’s the point Steve.....clutch will go only if there is evidence visually that it needs changing. Car drove fine. If I can get another 150,000 or so out of it I won’t bother. They are strong bits of kit and will do 350,000 plus Kim’s on one clutch with the 6sp wet DSG box. Your point about the cost of everything out is the only reason I’d consider it. Well see..... Dave
  21. I'd love one of those on my 3.6 - flat-bottomed with white stitching. Best place to buy? Dave
