  1. The correct tyres for Gemini rims should be 225/40 R18 Obviously if you were only planning on changing 2 of 4 tyres, then can't really run with mixed sizes. I am guessing it is an everyday use car, rather than something for exciting drives on warm sunny days. If so seriously consider changing all 4 tyres and putting all season tyres on.
  2. Two options, change wheel rims, or just the tyres. As a general guide any tyre with Sport or Eco in its name is going to be firmer. Also bear in mind that tyres will be harder when rubber is cold. So if finding them rough in cold weather then change from summer tyres to all season or winter tyres which are softer when cool. But if you have dodgy bones, arthritis etc and need comfort then change to smaller rims (the overall diameter is about same), look at this catalogue then sell the existing wheels, or store them until going to sell the car https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/505977-skoda-alloy-wheel-brochure-2022/
  3. The Government MOT website says You can take your vehicle away if: your current MOT certificate is still valid no ‘dangerous’ problems were listed in the MOT Otherwise, you’ll need to get it repaired before you can drive. So you can take it away, but not use it, and the MOT failure is recorded on the database. Strictly as worded take it away should be on a trailer or towed because has to be repaired before driven. Of course most people will drive it to another place nearby as it's easier, but not a great idea to drive past an ANPR camera But if Op is not comfortable doing the work, get quotes from fast fit centres or an Independent
  4. There is a likelihood that it will cost extra. A 100km plug in range is more an electric car with a range extender engine. Not clear to me if that is a useful combination for many people compared to a petrol engine (because they have no where to plug it in) or a full electric with 300km (200 mile) range (now high speed chargers on main road service stations etc, are more common)
  5. It sounds like collision avoidance, presumably the other car was directly (all of part) in front of you and coming towards you on what appeared to be your side of the road. Basically calculated that if both continue straight would be head on collision It would normally have put brakes on, if you didn't react, but sounds like you already had braked, so didn't do this. I have had similar, usually on country roads with slight kink shaped bends, which means coming towards you until point where it turns.
  6. A dog should fit. It's lower than some SUVs so less height to get the dog into the boot. Probably be better with boot floor in upper (level with access) level rather than low. So make sure you check it with floor at correct height. Apple / Google maps is fine as long as it has android auto etc, just plug in phone with short usb cable. (Wireless for maps was only added more recently). The built in navigation is not online (or for newer cars, just for 1 year, then offline unless pay extortionate renewal fee, so many revert to phone based maps anyway).
  7. Should be fine, you will find that the 1 litre DSG works best with E5 super unleaded (reports of 7% cruising to 14% urban) better fuel consumption than E10. Generally reliable. The DSG box works brilliantly with this engine. Can't really comment on a T-roc, but they were generally lower on equipment unless lots of extras specified, or high spec models chosen. It's a heavier car so with diesel prices running at 20p+ a litre over petrol, might not save much (if anything) if fuel costs
  8. It's not that a fault code would invalidate your warranty, it's that you cannot take out an All in One warranty with an existing fault. But it makes sense as it is effectively a comprehensive warranty, not a basic warranty that is full of exclusions, so won't want people taking it out then claiming for pre-existing faults. What seems to have happened in Ops case is an aftermarket addition was added, but which was done in a way that the cars computer recognised a change, but the relevant coding and calibration wasn't fully done, so it saw it as uncalibrated, and installation effectively incomplete. It is separate issue to warranty, it is for the Op to complain to the fitter for not finishing the job at the time.
  9. Have a look at this brochure, the mark3 Superb is Superb III There are 19, 18, 17, 16 inch rims My general advice when 4 sizes exist, is to avoid largest and smallest (unless there is special reason). Then depends on quality of your roads, if they are poor go for smaller of middle two, the tyres for these usually cheaper too. If looks are more important than comfort then pick bigger of two middle sizes. https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/639a0118-4da5-446b-a786-86e1f789b57b
  10. You are going to be on a sticky wicket with the warranty over the servicing. There is a few weeks grace (normally a month) because dealer's can't always book it in straight away. There were special exemptions during the initial lockdown periods because dealers were shut. Strictly delaying the service 2-3 months means it wasn't serviced in accordance with requirements. They are wrong to advertise it as having balance of manufactures warranty if they know it has been invalidated.
  11. In infotainment, go into car, settings, scroll to service and see what it says. There will be 2 types, both with days and distance Was only 1 reset, so other one is still counting down ? It will count down last 30 days or 1000km
  12. Varies considerably. Have heard of them going through almost straight away, and others waiting few months. Apparently there are quotas (and target volumes) for various countries within Europe, and for dealers. The basic aim is to stop one dealer placing large orders then others can't get them. What your dealer probably won't have volunteered (unless you specifically asked the exact question) is what is their quota for the month and how many have they sold. Eg if they have 5 Kodiaq in a month, your the 6th, factory might wait until next month. Even been rumours of some dealers quietly sticking order form in a draw and not even putting order through to next month. Pop into your dealer, get them to print out a system order and a screen print of the order status. If they can't find it on the system then create trouble as it means they are holding it against next months target volume.
  13. Possibly something in the selector lever (even something like badly cut out hole in the carpet) or not aligning correctly in the gate (alignment needs fixing). Dealer should fix these under warranty as clearly a manufacturing defect. Could be a synchromesh problem in the gearbox if it is shifting down from third easier than up from 1st into second gear. All rather a guess, based on description
  14. Have a look at this brochure, has all the wheels with their ET (offsets) and the required tyre size, along with photos https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/639a0118-4da5-446b-a786-86e1f789b57b The wheel rims are 16, 17, 18 inch. The smaller sizes will be more comfortable and tyres will be cheaper, the big size will be more harsh on poor roads The ET is 38-40, the numbers are millimetres, but not a problem if couple of millimetres different when buying aftermarket rims (it is how far out the wheels are from hubs)
  15. Another of those idiotic ones, why does the brake fluid the factory put in last 3 years, but the (identical) brake fluid used by dealers only last 2 years Skoda seem to know, but I can't figure it out
  16. Is it just me, or do others find it annoying that dealers send out letters about this highly profitable idea, but the way the letter is phrased it implies that is only extra that needs doing. ... no mention of other things recommended in handbook, like swapping wheels around. But not going to be able to overcharge for that.
  17. I might be wrong, but I vaguely remember someone saying it won't coast when the ice / snowflake warning (+4c or below) is on. I don't think it will coast if electric load is high, same as start/stop wont cut in
  18. Totally agree with toot braking is going to be limited by choice of tyres, if tyres don't grip and start to lock up, the abs will ease the brakes, so need to change tyres first before considering bigger discs
  19. SurreyJohn replied to mtony's topic in Tyres & Wheels
Best bet is look for online auction sites where someone is breaking a crashed car and selling off usable bits. You might be able to order it from spare parts at a dealership (but won't be cheap) But first check it will fit in the wheel well, some sizes of wheel are marginally too big for some models. In practice jack it up, take a wheel off and try it for size.
  20. You can track vehicle carrying ships from Emden, Germany, both Silver Ace and Violet Ray are currently there, City of Rotterdam and Patara due tomorrow. Need to find a ship going to Sheerness, Grimsby, or Tyne If your dealer says when it is on a ship, use vessel finder (or any ship tracker) for the ship https://www.vesselfinder.com/ports/DEEME001
  21. The car ahead moving off uses the front radar, even if ACC isn't fitted. There is another option called traffic jam assist that basically works as a follow the leader in start stop traffic. Maybe @ScottishWarrior909 hasn't yet realised there are 2 different brake pedal positions, where easing it, but not fully releasing it allows forward movement without lurching. You don't have to touch accelerator to restart with stop-start, the light braking and wigging steering wheel also do it.
  22. Skoda have probably lost 6+ months of production due to lockdowns, suspended shifts due to parts shortages etc. So makes sense that Kamiq facelift is delayed. Have heard Octavia facelift also delayed. The Karoq is older (introduced 2017) so plans for a facelift would have been almost 2 years earlier than the 2019 Kamiq
  23. Have held elsewhere that any facelift has been pushed back into early 2024 production. Guessing it might even be as late as MY25 cars from mid 2024 Seems to fit in with delivery thread where some outstanding orders have moved to not before September 2023 I am guessing would need to clear the backlog of cars stored awaiting parts, and build backlog. The whole point of a facelift is to energise waning sales and not really needed at current time.
  24. I am impressed they measured them, but giving you the measurements without also telling you the full size when new is not useful. The rear brakes only do something like 15% of braking effort so are fitted with much smaller discs. You have plenty of pad, and smaller rear disc does not mean brakes have been binding. Incidently most of the items In Inspection part of the inspection service are the things the handbook tells you do at intervals anyway, eg check the tyres for cuts, bulges, low tread or check oil and fluids level. But more annoyingly doesn't cover the parts that would be better done eg swapping wheels around, or measuring brake fluid quality etc.
  25. There is a new comparison of sporty summer tyres 1) Continental Sport Contact 7 2) Bridgestone Potenza sport 3 (joint) Goodyear eagle asymmetric 6, Michelin Pilot sport 5, Pirelli P zero PZ4 https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2023-AutoBild-Sports-Car-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm
