tyres
Better in the wet above about +9 or +10c Poor on damp salted roads, (or in very cold rain) as not designed to operate at temperatures where salt is laid. As they are summer tyres, not all year tyres. Regarding buying only 2 tyres, should really be swapping front to back when fronts have 4-5mm of tread to even out wear. If you get a set of winter tyres (which any performance version should use Nov-March), then when swapping winter-summer put best treads on front, will probably get to 60-70k miles before need more tyres, which is obviously better than having to buy 2 new tyres every 15k miles

tyres
The mk4 tyre sizes are in the brochure, under technical page 28 for Hatch, page 30 for estate/combi 4x4 gets same tyres as 2wd versions, but IV does have different tyre type https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/0bcfc2d5-654f-49b2-a524-91e141293e36 SE technology spec is in separate brochure (see page 21, 22) Seems IV has 17 inch wheels, vs 16 for other SE tech https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/8db7a881-8116-4b2a-9848-47cfcb6ee0ea

Wheel options
Remember the Karoq has flattened (squarer) wheel arches, whatever size wheel is in there will never fill it Have a look at this brochure, plenty of different Karoq wheels (with their part number codes) listed https://www.skoda-auto.de/_doc/d2d2b64a-e915-4ae4-b9d1-785a20123fa1

New UK Kodiaq specs launched 5th January
The latest SMMT figures (December) show 25.5% of cars sold in UK are 100% electric. I doubt Enyaq (the only electric Skoda sells in UK) is anywhere near 25% of Skoda sales, so Skoda not making what UK buys. 15.7% were hybrids, or plug in hybrids 15.3% were mild hybrids 38.7% were petrol 4.8% were diesel (less than 1 in 20) https://www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/car-registrations/ So pure petrol or diesel is under 44% So Kodiaq already has unwanted engine type for 56% of buyers

Anyone else ordered a new Kodiaq?
Not a facelift, but specs have been changed See attached new brochure, the old spec versions are marked only from stock The new specs are more expensive https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/5782ef00-768c-43df-8faf-51cba9730287 No idea on build dates, but document has effective date of 16th December 2021, so if old specs are now only from stock, presumably already discontinued the old.

Anyone else ordered a new Kodiaq?
Yes, if ACC applies the brakes, the brake lights come on But ACC is a radar based distance from vehicle in front, it has nothing to do with road signs, I think you are mixing ACC (adaptive cruise control) with traffic sign recognition, or PCC (predictive cruise control)

SE L Executive spec added 5th January to Kamiq (replaces SE L)
Announced by Skoda UK on 5th January, new SE L executive spec Kamiq, replacing SE L spec https://skodamedia.com/en-gb/releases/1280 New KAMIQ SE L Executive At the other end of the ŠKODA SUV size scale, the KAMIQ range is also being boosted with the introduction of a new SE L Executive model. New UK Kodiaq specs launched 5th January
Just announced by Skoda UK SE Drive and SEL executive specs https://skodamedia.com/en-gb/releases/1280 New KODIAQ SE Drive and SE L Executive An update to the KODIAQ range will see a new SE Drive trim level replace the previous SE grade. It builds on the already generous specification of the SE model, but adds new 18” Ascella anthracite alloy wheels, electrically adjustable, heated and folding door mirrors with integrated indicators and Amundsen satellite navigation with 8" touchscreen display and integrated Wi-Fi. Customers also get ŠKODA’s feature-packed Infotainment Online (1 year) as standard, along with front parking sensors and a rear-view parking camera. As with the SE model, the SE Drive is available with five and seven seater layouts with the latter also adding variable boot floor and cargo storage compartments in the boot. The KODIAQ SE Drive is available with two engine options; a 1.5 TSI petrol and a 2.0 TDI. Both develop 150PS and can be specified with a seven-speed DSG. The 2.0 TDI is also available with four-wheel drive. Prices start from £30,415 OTR. For customers demanding even more equipment, ŠKODA has added a new SE L Executive trim grade. This succeeds the previous SE L and adds a number of new features, including 19” Cursa anthracite alloy wheels, leather upholstery, and electrically adjustable, heated, foldable and driver-side auto-dimming door mirrors with boarding spots and memory function. SE L Executive buyers also benefit from an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function and a rear-view parking camera as standard. All SE L Executive models are fitted with seven seats as standard, and come with three engine options; 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI petrol units with outputs of 150PS and 190PS respectively, and a 2.0 TDI diesel that generates either 150PS or 200PS. Four-wheel drive is an option on the 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines. Prices for KODIAQ SE L Executive models start from £34,275 OTR.

Roomster replacement
Is the new Dacia Jogger a suitable roomster replacement £14,995 to £17,395 Seems a good spec, and flexible seating, and a reasonable price, just like the roomster used to be when it was still being sold https://cdn.group.renault.com/dac/gb/transversal-assets/brochures/model-brochures/Jogger-mini-eBrochure.pdf

New 19” tyres required, which ones
Pirelli P7s don’t like cold rain, brilliant summer tyre, but poor in wet below about +10c which is why you can spin them. But not a problem if you use winter tyres from end October to about Easter. If you want a performance summer tyre then Michelin Pilot sport 4S, or Continental sport contact 6, or Pirelli P zero PZ4 The P7s are more of a general sporty touring tyre (rather than ultra high performance P zero) so perhaps if you have been happy with these, come down a notch with other brands too, to their sport touring ranges (eg Michelin primacy, Continental premium contact etc). I would personally avoid anything labled Eco as these tend to be very hard and not grippy unless weather is warm/hot

When would you manually activate the parking brake?
To go back to Ops original question (before certain people started arguing about eyesight - next time hopefully they will do that in off topic roadside section) Doesn’t seem to be any need to even have the button to manually activate it on cars fitted with auto transmission and autohold

Advice on 1.5 TSI Manual Petrol
The engine management software has been changed, so the kangaroo effect of 2018 is no longer there on new cars. The latest cars are specified to EU6d step 2 RDE emissions, which is different to the EU6 temporary version used 3 years ago

Purpose of seat icons in driver info screen (analogue dash)
@Doombar It’s not only at start of journey, it’s anytime a rear seatbelt is clipped in or released. If one of your passengers in the back buckles up, or releases their seatbelt during the journey, then the display will reappear to show you what belts are in use. Useful if you have brought up disobedient children or know people who might undo their seatbelt during the journey. The law says it’s the drivers responsibility to ensure children are fastened (adults are responsible for themselves). There is no indication for front seats as driver can see if seatbelts are in use fairly easily.

Electric car grant reduced, cap now £35,000
I made a mistake, cut was £1000 from £2500 to £1500 I wrote it wrongly as cut to £1000 Apologies The threshold was cut from £35,000 to £32,000 Skoda has reissued the Enyaq price list dated 15th December and all references to some cars being eligible have gone as prices for all versions are over £32,000. Link to price list below. https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/c72dfee1-ab36-40e0-b1be-9c99293156c2

Electric car grant reduced, cap now £35,000
Government has reduced grant to £1000 now There was a few days transition for orders in progress when change was implemented. (announced 15th December, claims could be made for orders for 7 days) Seems that no Enyaq is eligible anymore, although those that can afford a £34k - £50k car probably don’t need a £1000 subsidy anyway

Booklets, Manuals and Documents supplied with New Car
Ask the dealership for a copy of warranty document, and ask for a print out of the service record (on a new car will only show the PDI). Good dealerships will have given you these (and a print out confirmation that car is taxed) Although your service is not due, as a guide for other readers, I always insist on a print out of service record when I pick up car and pay for service. By time next one is due, you will have forgotten what they did, or when things that are only every few years were last done. And having a readable record saves having any guessing

4 weeks old car and gearbox fault
PCP is not a lease, it’s personal contract purchase, you have bought it, own it, but are paying in instalments, and have option to pay balance in one lump sum, or return it in 36 months (or whatever period is) You have mixed it up with PCH (where H is hire), and hire/lease company is owner. Regarding the fault, an oil leak could be the seal when attached to engine, bit of grit etc so doesn’t seat correctly. It doesn’t automatically mean gearbox has a fault (a crack, hole, badly cut gear wheel etc). However could be the machined face of casing where seal sits isn’t perfect so needs changing.

4 weeks old car and gearbox fault
Rejection is notified to the supplying dealer, not the finance company. Letting finance Co know is more a courtesy, they don’t do anything to the faulty car. It is different if car is leased, as the leaseCo own it, and you deal with them. Basically dealer has one chance to fix it (not multiple goes) promptly. If they can’t do it, reject it on the spot, don’t take it home, get money back.
-
Was this car rejected?
You can always ask the selling dealer. It is illegal for any seller to lie, although very unlikely to volunteer any negative information. Another thing you can ask for is full service and repair history, and any work done should show up. If a main dealer (who has access to service history) says not available then walk away as they are trying to hide it. The Government tax checker shows first registered November 2020, and is currently taxed until Nov 2022. But it also shows a logbook was updated 6 Dec (fortnight ago). Quite odd for a car to change hands at exactly one year old

Front passenger air bag
Mine was also turned off when I got a new car (not an Octavia though) Subsequently discovered one of the safety systems were also turned off in the infotainment (go into car, settings, click on each row in turn and select what you like by ticking boxes), keep doing it scrolling down whole list (you only have to do it once even though might take 10 minutes) I would have thought it was better to have everything turned on upon delivery, and let user disable, than than discover many weeks or months later some are not active.

Refreshed Karoq
Not aware of any official dates yet. Best guess seems to be production start March-April, with deliveries starting April-May. But until something official is available, don’t rely on this.

Do all TSI engines in Mk4 have GPF
VW did drop diesels in small cars, and some medium size Can no longer get diesel in: Fabia, Scala, Kamiq Also not available in VW Polo, T-cross or Seat Ibiza, Arona etc Diesels are a minority of UK sales nowadays, the November SMMT sales show diesel as 5.1%, and MHEV diesel as 4.5% so less than 10% are diesels. The same November sales figures show BEV (battery, pure electric) as 18.8% and there is no way Skoda sells 18.8% as electric, as only offering is Enyaq. So yes VW group bet on the wrong fuel and doesn’t make what market buys https://www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/car-registrations/

Karoq facelift unveiled November 2021
German facelifted Karoq starting price €25,290 (pounds 21,455) Sportline from €35,560 (pounds 30,174) For comparison current Karoq in UK starts at £23,675 Current Sportline from £29,675 So basic models cost more, but higher spec is cheaper. Not sure why, but specs do vary between countries

Free wheel alignment checks
I took our car to a Kwik Fit after hitting a big pothole for tracking check expecting to pay a small amount few months ago, it was out one side, they corrected it and said no charge. Didn’t attempt to sell me anything.
