You might joke, but my Arona has an orange roof. When the other half pops in a shop she can always find where I have found a parking space when she comes out. Why having boring monochrome colours (black, grey, white), unless you are the sort of person who prefers a black and white TV to a colour one.

Eco mode question
Eco mode basically gives you some coasting on downhill sections, but anyone who looks at the live fuel consumption will see silly results like 200-300mpg or even dashes (more than 300mpg) on these sections, so not using much fuel anyway. I think Eco mode also limits the a/c. If you are keeping up with motorway traffic, will make little difference to using normal mode. Last week my local fuel station was only 6p more per litre for 97ron premium E5 over unleaded, you will get more mileage saving using that instead of E10 normal unleaded and eco mode. (anything less than about 12p /litre premium on open road, or nearer 16p in traffic and premium E5 seems better option as it gives better mpg as it pulls better whilst going up hills or accelerating.

Skoda has all sorts of production problems, and some reality seems to have suddenly moved in (so not being mentioned few days ago is now irrelevant). Basically Skoda is due to present its 2021 financial results and future outlook on Tuesday morning, so can’t hide anymore. https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/media/annual-reports/live-skoda-annual-press-conference-2/ Skoda UK might still be taking orders, but new orders will be 2023 deliveries (except for new Fabia, and selected Kamiq and Karoq specs).

Octavia iV Price Increases 2021
The problem with VED (vehicle tax) is you at the mercy of the Chancellor changing the rules, even when car is few years old. We had it with a 6 year old Octavia L&K estate Mk2 which had a 2 litre FSI auto and a CO2 rating of 201 About 2013 tax rules were changed and annual rate jumped hugely due its CO2 rating which hadn’t been a problem since 2006 when it was built.

@TheWanderer I would check the wording, normally it is the pre tax price that is locked, and any changes in VAT or VED are to your account. Also if the deposit is refundable, what are conditions for refund, are you able to cancel penalty free, or is it only if Skoda side fail to deliver before a specified date.

My understanding is that a dealers salesperson shouldn’t be giving tax advice and if they did (and it was incorrect) then @Gazria might have reason to complain to dealer principle. However common sense suggests asking for tax advice from a car salesman is likely to be as reliable as asking a bloke at the pub. It is quite clear, VED is based on the list price at the date of the registration, not a discounted price that is actually paid, or a list price from many months before.

Buying New Superb: Option Questions
In general prices have risen, and some items are only available as packs which makes them expensive. Don’t think over £1000 extra to move from 8 inch to 9.2inch screen is value for money, you get bit more features, but doesn’t mean you will use them DCC seems to get mixed comments, but a Superb is more a limo than a sports car, so if currently happy with 17 inch wheels why pay extra (but SEL spec comes with 18 inch as standard) I have wireless charging in my car, but don’t use it and have used the low tech 2 packets of trebour mints in tray, because the phone gets really hot if placed in the tray (I have Samsung S9), and some functions only work when plugged in, wouldn’t waste £280 on it unless you can’t charge your phone at home. Can’t see any reason to buy all of area view, and park package and rear camera. Beware of lead times, if you choose some options, can add 2 months to an already long wait, I think lead times are 10+ months. You have to consider if it is sensible to order whilst prices are high, options expensive, deals negligible, delivery dates sometime in 2023. But I don’t own a crystal ball to know what will be happening in years time.

Gearbox in emergency mode - no reverse gear
If the problem is with even number gears and not odd numbers then it suggests the fault is in the gearbox. There are 2 shafts one with even numbered gears, other with odd numbered ones. Actually one is a tube not a shaft and the shaft runs through the tube to the second set from its clutch (the gears aren’t in sequence they are in two sets, one set attached to tube, other to the shaft). I am guessing there are two possibilities, a selector control switch is faulty and not making contact so it thinks it can’t control one of the sets of gears (which is why they can’t be selected), or a control module thinks there is a problem with controlling the gears or clutch so is reverting to a safe mode rather than risking selecting two gears at once and causing damage. Although the car is out of warranty, there is also sale of goods Act, and the selling dealer is liable if the fault was present or developing at time of sale. The law is stacked so they have to demonstrate it wasn’t faulty at time of sale rather than you proving it was part faulty. Having said that if switches or electronic unit fails it tends to be almost instant, rather than degrading over time. To be honest many small local garages would be out of their depth diagnosing and repairing the electrical switches and controls in a DSG gearbox, and if they have to change a part ensuring it is all aligned and reassembled properly without using bit of trial and error and changing multiple parts whilst using some guesswork to identify exact fault.

Are they real build dates where the dealer has provided a screen shot or similar to show that is per system info from factory. Or is it just salesman waffle where he/she has told you something they made up by just adding few weeks to date when they informed you.

Engine running while changing tyres
Sounds like a load of rubbish to me. Doesn’t make any sense, even if they were jacking all four corners on a lift and wanted to rotate the wheels, would just manually use switch to turn of brake and leave gearbox in neutral Normally would stop the car, apply handbrake, turn off, and put it in park. Everyone I know that changes a wheel due to a puncture or does summer-winter wheel swaps releases the nuts about half a turn before jacking, not aiming to wrench the nuts hoping brake holds wheel.

That clearly shows no Skoda is less than 6 months Karoq (quickest with some specs is 6 months) other specs upto 9 months New Fabia is now minimum 7 months Octavia is now minimum 11 months For UK (and probably Finland where @timster is) also need to allow for ship transfer from Emden, so can add about 3 weeks. So Skoda ordered today will be November through to many months into 2023 before it arrives.

Good Bye for now, our 4th (of 6) Skoda sold
Due to change in circumstances, don’t really need a second car now Have sold our faithful Roomster which we have had 9 years, it recently helped up move house, and for many years was our car for when we went anywhere with the dogs. It flexibility was amazing and fixed glass roof was nice. My first Skoda experience was when we used to stay at my Uncle about 45 years ago, had lots of them, rear engined ones, then Felicia and Fabia My father in law loved Skoda as well, had a Felicia hatch and then a Felicia Estate, then our first Octavia L&K (all of which did over 130,000 miles). Our Skoda story started with a green Octavia GLX 1.6 estate, bought out of of showroom in 1998 (no waiting for orders then) from (now closed) Skoda dealer in Surbiton. One of the first Octavia estates in UK, which didn’t have air conditioning. Then traded it in two years later (2001) for a 4 month old L&K estate, also green with tan leather inside, it had the 1.8 litre 20v turbo engine with auto box, lovely car, this is the one that went to my father in law in Ireland in 2007. 2007-2010 was not Skoda as we leased a car, a Mercedes A class, easy to park in London, but never really liked it. 2010, back to Skoda, another Octavia estate L&K, a mk2 version from 2006, had both sunroof and climate control. Was a 2 litre FSI with auto 2013 wanted something bit smaller that fitted London parking spaces better, got a 6 months old roomster SE 1.2 DSG, got dealer to fit the dual height boot floor, petrol blue, this is car just sold. Unbelievably useful, carried everything from dogs to a fridge freezer. 2015 after a change of job, needed a second car at short notice, so I bought a Fabia S, had a/c but was a bit basic, only kept it 18 months until I got great deal leasing a Yeti 2016, a Yeti as our 6th Skoda, 1.2 tsi DSG in petrol blue to match the roomster, loved this car, but couldn’t get a replacement when the 2 year lease was running out. By 2018 were down to one dog and didn’t really need a larger car, so switched to a Seat Arona xcellence lux (the Skoda equivalent Kamiq wasn’t launched then) 2022 After moving house, and change to semi retirement, don’t need a second car, so someone else will become owner of a 47300 mile blue roomster

painting bumper plastics
I have painted plastic before but you need to use difficult surface primer (not standard primer), then an undercoat (ideally approx colour), before applying the coloured top paint. If you have pearlescent type paint then will probably need a clear coat too. If you try and shortcut it and just go to top colour, paint won’t key to surface properly, or will apply too much paint to try and change colour, and get a poor eggshell type finish. So not a quick job to do properly.

Any companies that refurbish shocks?
It’s also not very practical for most people, as waiting days or weeks with the car parked, jacked up whilst they are sent off, done and returned is not much use if need to use the car.

According to Autotrader, there are 89 brand new Octavia being advertised, and another 23 almost new with under 500 miles. So appears cars are available, but clearly that is less than one per dealer, so not going to get a good choice or discount.

2021 Mark IV Octavia Combi Style TD85/2.0 M6F poor performance in 6th gear when cold
That version has top speed (per brochure) of 133mph (215km/h), so you are cruising in 6th gear at about 40% of top speed. Not sure what the gearing is, but I suspect when the engine is cold you are upsetting the emissions system which is trying to get the DPF upto temperature. Possibly it is aware that with emissions system too cold to work fully, and avoid breaching tailpipe limits it is cutting fuel causing the jerking. You probably need to change your driving style and not use 6th gear at so low a speed as 90km/h until engine is warmed through and emissions system is upto ideal temperature.

DSG Oil change on very low mileage 1.4 Kodiaq SE TSI DSG 4x4 2018 7 seater
You have not spotted the service schedule states based on 10,000 miles per year. Some items are time based, but DSG oil change is every 40k miles (although seems to be 38k miles in some VW group European specs). Doesn’t need to be done at 18k miles Which engine is it, the 1.5 petrol has dry clutch DSG which doesn’t need oil change

Delivery times?
How do you know that the cars still being built are also not being finished. I think special teams are needed to be formed to go and work on the stored cars, as obviously there is not normally a need, and if they want to build current cars they can’t just take staff of the production line. Actually if fire at door panel supplier stops the production line, there is possibility that the stored cars can be completed quicker as more staff and parts may be available.

Might be a fantastic deal on paper Sounds like a rubbish deal in reality as you don’t get the car for who knows long, all you really have is a hollow order which you cannot control.

Kamiq delivery dates
The German website that tracks VW group deliveries is now showing minimum 7 months for Kamiq, with Monte Carlo extra 2 months (total 9 months). Front pad wear expectations?
Miles (or Kilometres) is a very poor indicator of brake wear. Someone who drives on quiet motorways (at night or where road isn’t busy) might only use brakes 2 or 3 times in 100Km. However someone in a city with traffic lights every few hundred metres will use brakes lots, and those in hilly or mountainous areas will also wear brakes more. Trying to work out average wear rate of above 3 scenarios to guess when pads will need changing is unlikely to be accurate.

Delivery Delays
A dealer does not get a large delivery of new cars that they were not expecting, they would have seen the status of delivery (for each of the cars) at ship, and dockside. They might not have known the exact hour that the transporter would turn up, but from what you say it seems the salesperson forgot to book slots in the workshop to do PDI before they turned up. They should have known how many days ahead their workshop is booking up for. So in my opinion it is pretty slapdash to delay PDI for 2 weeks. They need to explain why they have more new cars booked than their workshop can process within a reasonable time.

Škoda Fabia MK4 Monte Carlo
Skoda UK now has new Fabia brochure dated 1st March 2022 which includes Monte Carlo. Oil Service after 4 months and 7K miles?
@roottoot the Karoq brochure says this (under servicing in additional info towards the end) “Flexible regime: Sensors in the engine detect when a service is needed. A service light will show between 9,000 and 20,000 miles or up to 24 months (whichever comes first).” so I apologise for saying lower limit was 8000 instead of 9000 miles However it also says following about service plans “Our service plans are designed for customers that travel 10,000 miles or less per year. If you travel over 10,000 miles per year, or would prefer to add maintenance or tyres, then speak to your ŠKODA Retailer to create a more tailored service plan.” from the mileage the Op was indicating (over the 10,000 miles per year) it should be on the tailored service plan, not a standard service plan. And Op hasn’t said what is in (and when) his non standard tailored service plan.
