What is the best MPG you have achieved?
Just back a weeks holiday in the Peak District. Two long runs on the M6 south/north, car fully loaded plus roof box, tyre pressures adjusted. 2014, 2.0 tdi 140 CFFB 4x4 manual Estate Average MPG with a combination of cruise control or feathering pedal was 42 - 47MPG with some peaks of 54MPG. In 6 years of ownership typical MPG has been 42 pretty much constant. Always try to use VPower Diesel or BP Ultimate, however with the current fuel prices it is a thought to keep using the premium fuels 🥵 Its away for its MOT today....fingers crossed !

Haldex filter and oil change
Spot on Mike. I am one of those owners who had the Haldex pump fail despite rigorously sticking to the Skoda servicing requirements. It was only after the pump failed (when I had assumed servicing was being done correctly) that I found the Haldex Repairs website and the truth became clear. I too had the discussion with my local Skoda dealer and they were adamant that it wasn't in the 'system' and isn't a part they recognised. Hence all they do is drop the fluid and refill with new. Pointless when the filter and pump strainer are blocking up. I now get an independant to do mine every 20k or 2 years approx as I really don't want the cost and hassle of another pump replacement. The same place did the repairs and I bought the pump, filter etc from the supplier you mention. The Haldex servicing nonsense is almost on a par with the emissions scandal, plenty of Haldex equipped Skoda's out there that will likely be knackered..... As you can guess I am pretty bitter about the whole thing lol ! Great post and I hope others pick up on it. Cheers

4x4 - Loss of traction.
Sounds like a Haldex fault, if you have an OBD device you can plug in and get any codes for the all wheel drive system. The Haldex Repairs website gives you chapter and verse on the codes and issues. I had the pump fail on mine despite Skoda servicing to the book - they don't change the removable filter that they claim doesn't exist resulting in the pump burning out. I now take mine to an independent with Haldex experience and service every 2 years or 20,000 miles to try and head off any further trouble.... Cheers

Skoda Superb 3T bits and bobs
Hi, Do you still have the tray available ? Thanks
-
1.6 or 2.0
I've got the 2.0 140 (CFFB engine) in a 4x4 Superb and it is plenty adequate for every day use. I occasionally tow a heavy trailer and have no issues. Plenty of low down power and quick off the mark. When I first got it I thought about getting a remap to 170, but figured it was fine for my needs. MPG is approx 42 - 45 consistently, probably be a bit better for non-4x4.

Master cylinder/slave cylinder or summat else?
Sounds ominously like the concentric slave cylinder which if you have the 2litre diesel will be in the centre of the clutch - gearbox out job. I had the exact same symptoms a few years ago and had to get the car recovered to the dealer, new clutch and slave cylinder was required, Skoda gave some goodwill but still had a big bill at the end of it. The cylinder was leaking fluid onto the clutch which ruined the clutch as well as the failed cylinder to be replaced. I had noticed mild clutch slippage first thing in the morning for a day or two but hadn't realised that was the impending issue... Is yours 2WD or 4WD ? Mine is 4WD so the job was even worse as a lot more labour/dismantling was needed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad/expensive news... Hope you get it sorted out.

Drone from rear on Superb saloon at 2500 rpm
Check your rear tyres for saw toothing on the inner edges. More common on the estates but wouldn't rule it out as a simple fix on any Superb. Check tyre wear all round and tyre pressures. Any uneven wear would suggest a 4 wheel alignment is needed. However if it is that severe, sounds like skomaz has a more viable suggestion... How many miles has your car done out of interest ?

Quick haldex question
Just to clarify, if you have Gen 4 Haldex, there is a replaceable filter cartridge to be changed. Skoda do not have this on there service detail but it is there. Correct about removing the pump and cleaning the gauze screen, but there is a filter also to be swapped out.

skoda superb 2012 170 crdti oil leak after dealer service
Digressing a bit Off Topic.... Ayr was certainly a fine town back in the day 80s/90s era, so many good memories. I remember the Tesco well before it moved to the racecourse. There is a good picture of it if you do a google image search. Sadly Ayr is a shadow of its former self, South Ayrshire Council have run it into a state of despair and disrepair. The whole debacle that is ongoing of the railway station is a farce, Burns Square council offices have now been demolished leaving a bit of a mess and the high street is littered with empty shops and rough sleepers. The Council have missed a trick with Ayr, it could be quite a tourist destination but they prefer to ignore the town's people's wishes and focus on crazy schemes like knocking down the Kyle Centre to build a new sports centre in the middle of town... The one major tourist event (the Air Show) the council decided not to continue supporting.....go figure! I remember going to Ayr most Saturdays and the High Street was rammed with decent shops.... This video brings back memories of better times.... https://youtu.be/PJC2kvZxMtg (spot some cool retro classics !) To be fair, its not just Ayr, its the plague of modern life on the high street.... Cheers Dave

Quick haldex question
I don't do the work directly as have no facilities but the garage I use showed me the filter upon request and it was certainly showing a fair bit of debris. The fluid weeping out was brown/golden and I believe it is clear when new. The fluid isn't too expensive, I would be tempted to do everything, otherwise if you are doing 20K intervals your fluid will be in longer than the Skoda schedule which I think is 30k miles from memory. Its certainly something 4x4 owners need to keep an eye on. All the best...

skoda superb 2012 170 crdti oil leak after dealer service
Good to hear all resolved. I have had a similar experience, it was Skoda at Ayr that did the work and overall they have been fine to deal with and had a few warranty repairs done with no issues. I had elderly relatives at Kilbirnie and Beith years ago and used to visit fairly often. All the best...

Quick haldex question
I have bitter experience with Haldex after following the Skoda dealer service routine and having the fluid changed as per the schedule. Skoda do not change the removable filter or demount the pump to clean the strainer. This will lead to early pump failure and inevitable 4x4 failure. With no service history at all I would be changing the filter, remove the pump/test and clean the strainer and fill with fresh fluid. With luck your pump will be ok, I wasn't so lucky and had to get it replaced. Skoda's service procedures don't have the Gen 4 filter on their system so it never gets done. The links below are very useful and those who have been on here a while will have seen my rants before on Haldex 😃 I am now doing a Haldex service every 2 years or say 16 - 18k miles. If you have a code reader (Carista or similar) you can check for any codes for the 4x4 system and compare to the info in the links below. skoda superb 2012 170 crdti oil leak after dealer service
A few years ago after aservice at my local dealer I was getting oil patches on the drive. Took it back and they said it was probably residue from the oil change, they took the undertray off, steam cleaned it and gave me the car back. Day or two later oil patches worse than ever, took it back, turned out they had cracked the filter housing during the oil change and there was a bad oil leak...! They admitted they must have damaged the housing and it was replaced FOC. I have the CR140 engine but likely the same story with yours. I was told it was a 200 - 250 quid job normally. If it hasn't been fixed I would be getting the housing checked over. Cheers

Superb 4x4 diff leak
Yes, probably overdue based on time/mileage. The correct service for gen 4 haldex would be to replace the removable cartridge filter, demount the pump and clean the stainer on the end of the pump, replace both filter and pump with new o-rings and then refill with new Haldex fluid. There are also priming procedures required via VCDS to bleed air from the system before use. If you use a Skoda / VW dealer the chances are they won't change the filter and will only change the fluid. They probably won't also remove the pump and clean the strainer. Find an independent who has knowledge of Haldex and tell them what you want done. Cheers
-
Superb 4x4 diff leak
That looks like the haldex pump or filter cartridge area rather than the diff ? When was your Haldex last serviced ? Any garage should be replacing the O-rings etc when that is done, and the whole filter unit should be swapped out as part of the service. Cheers

4x4 system
It is Ecotune Scotland located at Hillington, Glasgow. They have a website, now used them twice for my Haldex service.

4x4 system
Its been linked in the vwvortex pages but this site is very useful in understanding operation and faults... Haldex Parts and ECU Repairs by Auto Fault Finder Ltd – Haldex Mail order parts and ECU repair services (haldexrepairs.co.uk) I have no affiliation, just a previous customer for a new pump and filter. If you get a code reader you can keep an eye on any Haldex faults that might crop up. Regular filter and fluid changes, and cleaning of the pump end strainer will keep the system running well. Wouldn't trust Skoda, they don't recognise there is a filter to be changed...! Be careful with VW specialists as I phoned several in my area and none could demonstrate they knew about Haldex, or the filter requirements etc which I found worrying given the amount of 4x4 VAG motors they would likely be working on... I eventually found a place up here that know about Haldex.

New car
I'd second that from experience... have FSH including proper Haldex service intervals and still had issues. I now use an independent to change the fluid AND the filter which Skoda don't recognise on their system. However, when working properly its 'Superb' (sorry!).... Timing belt, water pump and tensioner should also be done by now. I bought a Carista OBD reader and use it regularly to keep an eye on faults etc, very handy. Diesel I assume? - I use VAG DPF to keep an eye on the DPF status and try to allow regens to fully complete whenever possible. I always use Shell VPower diesel, feel it makes a difference... Enjoy when it arrives...!

Superb mk2 A/C problem solved!
Thanks for the informative post...! Good you have your air con sorted.

Question about next Service v age v miles
Sounds like your TDF is much the same condition and mileage as mine. Likewise my mileage has hugely dropped and will hopefully remain that way ! Personally I will stick to servicing annually and will do the usual major service/belts within either the mileage or time constraints. The air filter is a very easy DIY job as is the pollen filter, I will do both mine in a couple of months when my next annual service is due. Brake fluid they say every two years despite mileage. I have started using independents for work now given the age of mine and have found a decent garage locally. I might still stick with Skoda for a major job like the timing belt/water pump and bite the bullet on cost but will weigh that up when its needed. Cheers

KESSY Start Stop Button replacement
Any Skoda UK Main Dealer should be able to source you the correct button for your car. Web enquiry pages are often not monitored or emails get lost, best to visit or call your nearest dealer and talk to the parts dept. If you give them your reg number they will get the exact button for your car, or newest version (like in my case). The part will be delivered to the dealer for collection and therefore saving shipping. Cheers Dave

Air Conditioning Service Options
The air con system in my Superb has never been re-gassed and the car is approaching 7 years old. Air con still working but not quite as cold as it used to be. I see the main dealer are wanting £140 for an air con service, whereas other independents are charging around £60. Not being familiar with the process, are there differences in air con servicing i.e just a basic re-gas or do some add lubricants/dye etc or is this incorporated into any refrigerant change ? Just want to be sure I get the right thing and know what to ask for (without being ripped by main dealer prices again !). I have found a good local garage that I have started putting the car into but always like to gauge against what the main dealer is offering. Thanks

Anybody thinking about selling a 4x4 estate
I looked for a manual 170bhp around the time I bought mine (2016) but could only find that in the auto variety. The 140 Tour De France model happened to come up at my local dealer which met my needs. I have found the 140 to be perfectly fine and driveable, happy days! You could always get it remapped, I thought about it for a while but decided it wasn't really necessary for me. Make sure any one you view has had the Haldex servicing properly done, which should be fluid change and the replaceable filter changed (which Skoda doesn't recognise) every 20 - 30K miles. If there is no evidence of the servicing there is a good chance the pump will be damaged and the car only running as 2WD. Great car if you can find a decent one.

What would you change?
A big job and quite a headache. Do you have access to a lift etc ? Would be interested in hearing how the repair goes and if that cures your problem. Good luck!
-
What would you change?
Yeah, thats a very good point. I can't remember what one was the culprit (Sachs or LUK) but it is well documented on here. I made sure when they replaced the clutch due to the slave cylinder failure that it was the clutch that hadn't been reported with all the failures.
