  1. My car (1.4tsi ACT) is well outside warranty now so going to be doing my own oil changes from now on. I'll be using an oil extractor but the oil filter is low down requiring putting the car on ramps and removing the underbody tray to gain access, does this sound right or is there a way at it from above? Also any tips on how to do the service reset?
  2. Brilliant, thanks for sharing @Komap Now a video on fixing rusty pliers please! 😁
  3. I am getting a juddering at the bike point in first gear. No slipping though, and wondering is it the clutch or flywheel? (2015, 80k) Anyone had these replaced? Is the general advice to get the flywheel changed at the same time while working on the gear box?
  4. Try spraying white lithium grease on to the anti-roll bar bushes, accessible from engine bay and from behind both front wheels. In my case this got rid of the squeaking.
  5. Interesting. No I don't have that noise thankfully!
  6. Autodoc have them, not sure how their prices compare to main dealer. Note there are two types, depending on if you have rear wash wipe. I added some insulation/weight to my tailgate so may get the uprated versions to replace mine which are also a bit tired (at 6 years old)
  7. Getting an erratic vibration/juddering when pulling away in first. Getting harder to get the bite point smooth. No slipping or burning clutch smell, does this sound like a clutch on the way out or something else, and does the car have a dmf which is best replaced at the same time? TIA
  8. Pretty sure that is a no, certainly not on mine or a few others here that have done various insulation jobs.

  10. Update: Rear window lock switch goes off when pressed, not amber, and the illumination is more of a cream white than the crisp white of the other switches. It's messing with my OCD already. But the switch action is much nicer than before.
  11. The driver's window switch one-touch was erratic so I've just replaced the unit. Seems not an uncommon problem but thankfully it is an easy fix. Got a replacement switch from Amazon for €20 which has the added benefit of the the Chrome detailing that mine was lacking, although I had added some AliExpress chrome pieces to the old one. Prize out the window switch trim starting with trim removal tools along the long edge, working your way back to the short edge. Tilt up and out to access wiring. Disconnect both electric switches for mirror and windows, there isn't a huge amount of cable so access is a bit awkward. With the trim removed the switch unit is held in by 6 small tabs on its edges. Use a fork shaped trim removal tool between the switch and the trim and work your way around. With the 6 times released it's simply slide out. At this point I tested the Amazon switch before installation by hooking it up, everything works fine, the only thing is the the rear window lock doesn't light up amber. It just goes on or off. Then popped it back into its trim and installation is the reverse of removal. The new switches have a nice damped feel which the old ones were lacking due to age I suppose.
  12. Yes I noticed his filter was the wrong way round. Didn't know that about the blower protection, I reckon you could use anything flat, cardboard for example. Excellent tip.
  13. Quick pollen filter change. €10 Mahle from AutoDoc. 5 minute job following the instruction below. Nice to come across a job that has been designed to be easy to do.
  14. Having done the same it is the four doors, followed by the B pillar that seems to made the biggest difference.
  15. Has the door card ever been off? Could be a simple as not being reconnected.
  16. Superb prices been creeping up for a few years now. No longer the bargain new they once where. If I was looking to buy new it would be very hard to overlook a one-year-old 5 series in favour of a new Superb. A few years ago we picked up a one-year-old Superb for £15,000, if we were to buy the same one year old car today it would cost £20,000+. The market has gone crazy.
  17. As above, very well known issue, don't be fobbed off.
  18. It does feel quieter and smoother. I was getting a whine in first under acceleration, still there but more muted now. Shift action also feels a bit better. €45 labour, €70 for the oil. Well worth it.
  19. I didn't take any scientific measurements but think the cumulative effect of doing the rear doors is worth it. There is a large surface area there to add insulation too.
  20. Quick update now that all four doors are done. Delighted with the results, definitely a bit quieter, the wife even commented on it, that is unusual! Between that and today's gear oil change car feels super refined. Would really recommend doing the doors if you enjoy a project and are bit OCD.
  21. Update: Just over a litre of very black, thin oil came out, just over 2 litres went in. I'm not sure if this car had a gearbox leak prior to my ownership, it has been fine since I have owned it but the state of the oil was terrible. Very glad I got this done.
  22. Plastic side panels? Do you mean the actual door cards?
