  1. Update: Just had new clutch, pressure plate, release bearing and DMF fitted today. Just under €1000 which I am very happy with. I had a good look at the parts and all three showed signs of wear, there was not much life left in the clutch at all. The mechanic was surprised that a petrol engined DMF would go, I suspect it may be down to the ACT as the engine is definitely not as balanced on two cylinders and that might put additional stress into the DMF.

  4. About to push the button on new clutch, flywheel and slave. Getting tired of the juddering in first. Have been quoted €1800 for new clutch and flywheel from Skoda or €1700 for new clutch, flywheel and slave from an Indy. (no idea what brand of parts) Anyone have any thoughts on those prices, I'm thinking of going with the Independent.
  5. The Superb is no longer a 'cheap' car, if I had bought new some of the noise and quality issues would grate. I bought used at a year old back when used cars where cheap so it is easier to forgive her feelings. Overall though it is such a well rounded car it is easy to overlook some of the weaknesses.
  6. I used 100mm closed cell and the seat still fitted OK. I also was able to reuse the fixings, but no harm to replace them as you are doing.
  7. Just avoid OEM disks, they really are very poor. I've used both Pagid and Brembo from ECP and can't fault them. Buying online can be a bit of a minefield as well so I was happy to go into the store with the chassis number to ensure I was getting the right parts.

  9. Please don’t use metal, screwdrivers etc. Trim removal tools are cheap and won't damage anything. The airbag plastic cover pops off easily.   10. There would be little point in shoving foam down there when it is not a tricky job to do properly. B Pillar trim is actually very easy to remove and there are definitely gains to be made from soundproofing that area thoroughly as sound does travel up the B pillar.
  11. Don't expect any audible improvements but they can't hurt. But along with additional sound dampening in the doors doors they will have a nicer 'thunk' when closing.

  13. It may be a faulty switch, we have two Superb is in the family and both are required new switches bought online for around €25 each. Not original parts but just as good. Easy enough to fit yourself.
  14. Two 1.4 150bhp ACT in the family. One manual, one DSG, Both have been mechanically 100% reliable. It is a refined, quick and frugal engine and in my mind much better than the noisier diesels assuming you're not doing mega mileages. Look out for: Can be noisy on big wheels Creaky front suspension Electric window switch one touch can fail Cracked chrome on DSG gear deliver Poor fitting glovebox lid Corroded brake discs Failed boot handle switch Climatronic pollution sensor failure Top chrome window surrounds can fall off, most fixed under warranty by now. Most of the above is a cheap an easy fix and wouldn't detract from the ownership experience.
  15. Best way to reduce engine noise is to buy a petrol! Not sure that covering the whole engine like that is a good idea either, apart from the fact it looks like a fire hazard you are smothering the engines ability to dissipate heat effectively.
  16. This was well documented on early Superbs that a pipe between behind the dashboard would buzz at a certain resonance. I test drove one that did just that. More info here:
  17. Keep in mind a new anti roll bar fitted by Skoda could have exactly the same problem. How they have not got on top of this problem is beyond me.
  18. Really looking forward to seeing what they do. Superb 3 is a tough act to follow, hope they retain some analogue controls for the interior.
  19. I did, as it is one of those jobs I don't actually believe they will do if you leave the car them! Saw the oil go out and new oil go in. They showed me what came out.
  20. Black may have been an overstatement but it was certainly a good deal darker compared to the new oil. Quite why I can't say!
  21. Can't help with the question but had mine changed on a 1.4tsi at 80,000km by an Indy. The oil was black and very thin, was very happy to get it changed. Got the oil from a Skoda dealer and it took 3.5 lites I think.
  22. I'd say it will evolve the handsome exterior styling but expect more bling and more screens in the interior.

  24. Car failed test for leaking N/S rear so need to get both sides done. (150,000km and 6 years) Any recommendations on brands, currently thinking Monroe/Sachs or Bilstein B4. Also am I correct in thinking this is not a huge job, everything can be done from inside the real wheel arch? TIA
