  1. Whilst my Kodiaq has gone on to pastures new, I'm following this thread with interest. To my knowledge my 4WD was never called into action in 3 years of ownership, but I did wonder if I'd know when it was. Probably talking out the top of head now, but is there no warning light/buzzer that appears on the dash if the rear wheels get driven ? There seems to be an alarm for virtually everything else.
  2. I find the ride quality fine on my 18" wheels, although pressures certainly make a difference. I am finding that certain road surfaces generate a lot of noise and make hearing what my wife is saying difficult. I'm undecided as yet whether it's down to the make of tyre, lack of soundproofing or both. My previous Kodiaq on 19" wheels with Pirelli tyres generated no such noise. In your case I think that just changing the make of tyre and paying attention to tyre pressures would have done what you wanted without buying new wheels as well.
  3. Out of curiosity, why did you want to change your wheel size ?
  4. Assuming Gumdrop means one of these; https://www.amazon.co.uk/REARMASTER-Universal-Camera-Surveillance-switch/dp/B074YZ1GKL/ref=sr_1_11?crid=KJXR64BPXDMW&dchild=1&keywords=obd+dash+cam+cable&qid=1634464484&qsid=259-3973935-5165201&sprefix=dash+cam+cable+with+obd+%2Caps%2C182&sr=8-11&sres=B07TV2Y6XB%2CB06XS33J2N%2CB07FM1DTTV%2CB071CZBV2D%2CB08LSFH1DJ%2CB08JLRRYRW%2CB07YBKRKKC%2CB074YZ1GKL%2CB09199ZY8P%2CB07F71RBR8%2CB094Y3KNFJ%2CB07TZ331NP%2CB071JSLT95%2CB07Q29JZZY%2CB07PLVLN7Q%2CB07PV8NSF2 I've done the same - easy to fit inside the trims and works well. Be sure the one you buy has a USB plug that fits your dash cam. Mine didn't, so I had to buy an adaptor which was cheap and no problem.
  5. Did your fitter use Skoda specific wiring or generic ?
  6. That sounds pretty good then, do you know whether specific or generic wiring was used ??
  7. My car was registered in May this year and was built earlier this year as far as I can ascertain. That's not what I'm interested in though, it's which version of mapping you have that I want to know which you can find in settings. Although my car was built and registered this year, it has a Nov 2019 version of mapping installed, so either your car came with a later version installed or you were lucky enough to get the summer automatic update, for which you'd need to be registered with Skoda Connect.
  8. As JR says, the beeping is normal. My local fitter quoted me two prices for fitting the same tow bar, one using Skoda specific wiring and the other using generic wiring. The quote using Skoda wiring was somewhat more expensive. It sounds like your wiring has been done correctly but Cestrians hasn't.
  9. I assume you're talking main dealer prices here - and you're in London which doesn't help, could you not find an independent VAG specialist to do the job. There might be a saving to made.
  10. I'm not known as a person who shows much empathy, but I do feel your pain. I would be incandescent !!
  11. That timeframe of downloading is not unusual, it would take at least that when I had my Kodiaq. If your computer will allow you to download, I'd give it a go. My laptop just shuts me out and will not allow me to download. You have nothing to lose except time - set it going when you go to bed and it should be complete the next morning. It will then take quite some time when you transfer it to a memory stick - it never was a quick process. However, even if you do manage to download to your computer I suspect your car won't recognize it when you plug your memory stick into the USB port, neither of our cars did.
  12. Further to this, I'd thought I'd have another crack at downloading from the Portal just in case Skoda have allowed us to do it again. Something has obviously changed and a message box appears stating that this zip cannot be downloaded securely. Lets hope the OTA update works next month !!
  13. I don't think so, not yet at least - if ever. There was chatter here that Skoda is going to revert to self downloading maps via the Portal (I really hope they do !), so I asked the question via the online chat service. The operator I spoke to was either evasive or just didn't know what might happen, so I asked how we'd know if Skoda activated self downloads rather than OTA. He said we'd have to follow the Skoda online information site for any possible updates, so not very helpful. The feeling was that if Skoda change the system, the earliest it might happen would be the end of this year, but considering it's now October, I'd think that's unlikely. With regard to the Portal, I've tried what you did. I entered my VIN and even though Skoda knows that it won't work, nowhere in the process of downloading maps to my computer did the system say that I could only get them via OTA. So I spent quite a long time downloading to my computer and then transferring it all to a memory stick, only to discover that when I plugged that into the car, it wasn't recognised. I'd even purchased a 64gb memory stick because the Portal told me that a 32gb stick was too small ! It was very annoying and disheartening. Here's how out of date VAG are; My wife has a recently purchased MK 8 Golf which has a similar infotainment system to my Kamiq and I'd tried to update her maps via the VW portal with the same result as my car. I contacted the local VW dealer who'd supplied the car new (my wife bought it used) and spoke to the aftersales manager. He sent me a link to a tutorial that he'd written out to help customers to update their mapping. I struggled to understand it until I realised that it was the old Portal system he'd sent. When I rang to tell him this, he had no idea that the system had changed to OTA, so I had to tell him how it's supposed to work. We're doomed I tell you, we're doomed !!!!
  14. Either I'm missing something in settings or it's because I have a 2019 version in my car. What version of mapping do you have ?
  15. That's a shame. Doing this from memory now which is currently clouded in an alcohol induced fugue. Go to car settings I think and scroll down until you see factory reset. Press on that and follow instructions. If you don't find it there, there's a couple of other sub menu settings, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for me to find them.. If the reboot didn't work, I have my doubts that a factory reset will do it, but its worth a try. Failing that it's a dealer visit I'm afraid.
  16. It's a computer and they all have glitches. This may or may not work but you have nothing to lose except a bit of time and it does cure some glitches. Reboot your infotainment system 3 times in succession and no, I'm not joking. If you don't know how to do it, keep your finger on the on/off icon for a few seconds until you hear a loud bleep/noise/pop. As said, do this 3 times in succession. Don't worry, it won't do any harm, nor will you lose any personal settings. If this doesn't work you can try a factory reset, but with this you will lose any personal settings that you've entered. The system reboot does work for certain ailments, but is not guaranteed for all of them. Worth a try though and only takes a few minutes.
  17. Can you take it to an independent garage for another opinion ? If they agree that there is a problem, ask them to write a report stating there's a fault and then present that to your dealer and demand they fix it. If they refuse, you may have grounds to reject the car or get a replacement, but it's always difficult answering questions from abroad because we don't know what terms and conditions Skoda offer in other countries, or what legal channels you can use to help you. At the very least, demand that Skoda themselves or your dealer write you a signed statement that you have brought this to their attention and that they have said that there is no fault, or the noise is normal. That way, you should have legal redress if it gets worse or breaks in the future.. I agree with Dave Miller above and if that was my car I'd be very worried.
  18. Had a further look today and discovered that I had been in the right place yesterday, but I didn't know about the lights having to be on. Why is it so complicated ????? I have now increased the brightness in settings, but I can't tell if it's worked in daylight.
  19. Sorry, can't help with setting up your seats, I wasn't rich enough to have that facility. 😉 The owners manual book wasn't very good 3 years ago when I bought my car so it seems that hasn't changed. However, for future reference (Unless Skoda have changed this too) the online manual is somewhat more comprehensive than the supplied book so have a look at that for answers and it may even tell you about your current question. I find the art with manuals, as with asking Google, is you have to know where to look and what questions to ask and I personally find the manual is set out in a format that doesn't suit my brain pattern.
  20. HareLaw; this just popped up on the other Kamiq site https://www.kamiqforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=214&sid=5e76e2d3e4522c870c614786f0786eb3&p=797#p797 Might be helpful if you decide to purchase sill protectors. I have nothing to do with them, so I've no idea if they're any good or not.
  21. + 1 for that and I'd happily pull the trigger if they're caught !! You have my sympathies, I despise that sort of behaviour. No CCTV in the vicinity ? Them getting caught won't fix your tank but it would offer some sort of satisfaction.
  22. Smashing, thankyou. I'll have a look tomorrow.
  23. I know, but I just couldn't bring the name to mind. Getting old doesn't come pain free - especially when trying to get back up after going down on my knees to take the pics 😏
