sounds rough on start up
Tensioner oscillating is usually failure of the alternator pulley one way (sprag) clutch.

change quiet horn
If you owned one of the single horn vehicles like mine you would realise just how pathetic the horn sounds, it really is an embarrasment, it sounds like something a toddler would have on a tricycle. I never want to use mine, sometimes I do so instinctively and then curl up with embarrassment, I want to hide!!!!!

Speedo swap issues !!
Even with VCDS you cannot pair a different instrument cluster to a vehicle, it holds the immobiliser data so the vehicle will not start, there will also be a conflict between the recorded mileage and that stored in the main ECU, a Skoda dealer may be able to make the coding changes but they are set up to do so after having sold you a new cluster. Can you not exchange the backlit part of the dial whilst retaining the original PCB with the canbus module? I dont know the answer to that having not stripped mine down.

Recommended lowering springs & spacers
The vehicle is not designed to be level, it should have the front to rear rake as shown in the photograph, reducing both the front and rear ride height unless by different amounts would not make it level. Desiring the wheels (I presume you meant tyres) to sit flush or inside the wheelarch and not wanting the car to sit to low is a contradiction in terms. I follow Carlsons logic by increasing the sidewall height of the tyres but I doubt you would notice a 4mm difference. Larger rim diameter or larger aspect ratio tyres would be the only way to achieve what you desire, the former is likely to make an already hard ride much harder, the latter will impact negatively the handling and steering response/feedback. Personally I think it looks just fine, its already significantly lower than a cooking version.

Scary electrics
Agreed, almost certainly an ABS sensor and VCDS will find the error code if it is that, as all those systems are interlinked it could be several other things but VCDS will identify them, the most likely cause is an ABS sensor, one of mine played up recently after I had clipped a kerb with a rear wheel, it happened maybe 15 seconds later and would recur intermittenly becoming more frequent until permanent.

the truth about electric cars
Is that actually true? Do you have some reference to it? I very much doubt that pedestrians have priority on A roads, dual carriageways or motorways, possibly in 30 MPH limits in built up areas. I completely agree with the principle of hierarchy dependant on vulnerability but what does UK law say? I remember being in court when I was young, sadly a not infrequent occurrence, the case before me was a motorist who had driven over a cyclist on a pedestrian crossing, he was absolved because the cyclist was riding the bike and not pushing it. In France pedestrians have absolute priority in Zone 30's (already described) and on passage pietons, but the law also says that elsewhere they should signal their intent to cross a road and if there is a passage pieton within 50 meters they must use it, you will be fined if observed by a Gendarme crossing a road within 50 meters (it might be 25) of a pedestrian crossing, if you cause an accident or are run over you are responsable for the physical and corporal damages suffered by the 3rd parties. Because if this all house insurances give cover for responsabilité civile for the policyholder and his family outside of the dwelling, it also covers accidental damage they may cause to a rented gîte etc.

Riken UHP tyres
Do you seriously believe that your driver aid system knows the tread depth of your tyres or what their coefficient of friction is?

the truth about electric cars
But they can become very agreeable once pedestrianised, problem is with everything else that has built up around it over decades lots would need to be demolished to provide multi storey parking.

Split CV Boot Fitment
Thanks for the explanation, I had incorrectly assumed that the joint would be glued with the gaiter in its fitted position, that would be the reason that its such a loose fit but the tywraps or clips should take care of that.

Not putting a car into the dealership can only be good news, they wont be able to screw it up and screw you around, - look on the positive side!

Octavia 2 vRS 2.0 TDI oil temp/coolant temp issues
The use of the word "spikes" indicates that the oil temperature suddenly shoots up to 150°c which is implausible, my money is on the temperature/level sensor being faulty, I believe that they are quite exposed and prone to failure.

Water ingress, but no sign of leak??
Not really but its true that a compressor that does not turn can have the seals harden and leak when re-used but all modern compressors turn all the time even when the AC is switched off, they do not have an electro-magnetic clutch like the earlier generation but instead a modulating valve to regulate the flow, when it is not pumping refrigerant it is stirring it around in the pump so the seals are always lubricated. Also the modulating valve is never turned off 100% so a small amount of refrigerant is circulated all the time the engine is running.

Get it Ready For Winter
VWD was referring to the lock cylinders in the door handles which with central locking many are never ever used. I have not experienced it but could see a scenario when the physical door lock you speak off becomes stiff or sticky so that the motor will not release it but using the door handle would, same deal for a motor failure or flat battery. If the key has never been used and/or the lock cylinder never lubricated then the day its needed it will no serve you.

Water ingress, but no sign of leak??
Check spare wheel well, check level of windscreen washer fluid. It doesn't but I agree with the other statements.

Split CV Boot Fitment
Did you take the photographs before fitting the clips? How do you avoid the glue joint becoming contaminated with the CV grease when you wrap it round the shaft in such a confined space?

Wales new reduced to 20 mph speed limit in built up areas starts on Sunday 17th September 2023.
We have "Zone Trentes" in France, 30KPH = 19mph in many town and village centres, part of the legislation means that they become "priorité au piéton" and have traffic calming measures like chicanes, sleeping policeman etc, they effectively become pedestrianised areas as pedestrians can cross wherever they choose and cars have to stop for them, given French drivers that remains theoretical 😄 The Route Departementale in front of where I am now (the hôtel in Picardie) with the Airbus factory opposite became a zone 30 and they removed 4 pedestrian crossings to do so which has actually made it much more dangerous for people walking to work although most drive even those living 100m away. In general they work very well and its unusual to see one inappropriately sited, we need more and they are spreading but not really fast enough. In the village where I live near Bergerac the main Route Nationale to Bordeaux passes right through the centre, its 80kmh limit from Bergerac then 90KPH dual carriage way (very rare these days) and then they have to slow to 30kph to pass through the centre of the village, there is a speed camera just before. That works very well and has much improved safety, most drive faster but they have to be aware with all the chicanes, raised sections and the chance that a Flic might be there with the speed measuring binoculars. My road is a narrow single track ratrun with a 50kph limit although barely any vehicles pass compared to say the UK many drivers drive far too fast whilst staring at their phones, neighbours walk the road with their children and gather to talk with each other so it can be very dangerous, they have been campaigning without success for a reduction to a Zone 30 which I will take up, given the 30 limit on the main road logically there should be no reason against it but there i only one other road in the village with a zone 30, the one where the Maire lives which is a cul de sac and not a cut through!

EGR issues?
If it is stuck shut or will return to the closed position from the return spring pressure then thats ideal for an Emulator/Simulator as you will not need to fit any blanking plates which are supplied.
-
EGR issues?
Not sure about the percentages, the ECU will expect to see the mass air flow fall when EGR is commanded. If you dont want to replace the EGR I would say your vehicle is an ideal candidate for an Emulator/Simulator at around £99 from Poland (I think). I think you may have mentioned that your roadworthiness tests are more rigorous, there is probably something saying that no modifications can be made to the emissions control system, if you spend a little bit of time routing the cables on the unit it can be undetectable without removing engine covers, airboxes etc, the visible MAF sensor connector and the cable leading away from it are identical to the OEM, ditto for the throttle valve and the EGR actuator although that is hidden anyway and the unit can be placed right beside it.

the truth about electric cars
Todays 17 year olds are exactly like I was at 17 except perhaps less worldly wise and even more rash and idiotic if that were possible. And there have not been the adult role models around (that I was lacking) for several generations now.

Low-Beam Physics
That does not make sense, did you mean to write "if" or "why" instead of "that" ?
-
Low-Beam Physics
I bet you have LED or Xenon lighting. There never was dazzling from oncoming cars on inclines before their adoption. The diagram is incorrect because dipped beam lighting does not shine downwards to the extreme angle shown, well old school headlights never did, also the oncoming driver will be viewing the illumination from an angle and not head on which is much less dazzling.
