  1. Most are ok with it from my experience, companies like the AA/RAC offer inspections so most garages expect it. If they have an objection it would ring alarm bells for me.
  2. Yeah, it seems to have been removed offline, guessing there is a supply issue. My local branch had an entire pallet of it in the counter in 5L & 10L.
  3. My local GSF Car Parts had some yesterday, give your local branch a call. Part number on the invoice is GSF982AA4200
  4. It looks like the less economical cars and bigger vehicles are starting to drop in price, the smaller city cars seem to be holding out from my observations. I think with the current cost of living, people are now cutting costs with fuel, tax, insurance and monthly payments where they can.
  5. White smoke is either unburnt fuel or coolant entering the combustion chamber, if the car isn't using coolant it must be fuel. Did the mechanic actually test the injectors, or just advise you change them? That is a big cost based on assumption by the mechanic. It would be worth checking all the glow plugs are functioning, I have seen it in the past where unburnt fuel from one cylinder has caused smoke on cold starts. It would be worth checking all the fuel/timing trims to make sure the fuel is being injected at the right time etc, maybe even pop a borescope into the cylinder to check the condition.

If you haven't already, check with other garages for a quote (I can recommend Midland VW) There are a couple of variations of clutch for these, but from memory the LUK stuff is around £400-420 (Clutch, CSC & DMF for Manual box) from my usual place. Obviously product costs will differ by garage, but even at £500 for parts £700-1000 in labour is expensive for a normal garage.
  7. My DSG box (DQ250) is pretty good, better than other automatics I have driven. It does occasionally pick the wrong gear for roundabouts, then you end up being shot out the roundabout if you press the accelerator a little too much, so now I opt for manual intervention. The only time it will hold a gear for a prolonged period is if it is trying to do a DPF regen, other than that the shift points are not to far off where I would want to change in a manual.
  8. Do you just have the induction kit? Mine is quite loud, but it has other bits on it so could those.
  9. Ram Air used to do some decent kits for the 1.8T, could be worth a look. I ran one of their cone filters originally with the intake pipe, then bought one of their kits so that I had the heat shield.
  10. It will come down to your budget and what you want/need from the tyre. I have run the Primacy 4 from Michellin and had no issues with them, they are a summer tyre but have driven in all weather with them without issue. I had 20k out of a set of fronts before I had to change them due to a puncture.
  11. They aren't to bad to fit, just have to pop the one wire into the BCM connector and then the other to a suitable earthing point, the fiddly bit is unplugging the connector from the control module. It took me around an hour to do it, with most of that being spent upside down in the footwell trying to put the pin in the BCM connector. The menu is just some simple coding in VCDS, the kit came with instructions but they are also available on the forum.
  12. I upgraded to the Red version after repeated issued with open-door ones... well worth it. Quality and fitment are miles apart.
  13. I would seek advice of a reputable tuner who specialise in VAG, they are more likely to know what works based on what data they see live tuning cars on a dyno. The 'Flash Map' type people who come to your house obviously cover all makes and models, their actual knowledge of a specific engine type will be limited. The general idea is that 'stage 1' software is compatible with the cars original hardware and no changes are needed. Fitting an induction kit will give you more noise and marginal response/power if that is what you are after. You could fit the kit at home with minimal tools, they are quite simplistic, pretty sure its a couple of jubilee clips to remove the hoses and pull the OE box off its mounts. Here are two kits that are listed on Awesome GTI, they both claim Max power gains of 5.6 - 9.3hp... but it doesn't state what that is in comparison to, you would have to presume a stock car with a clean air filter. https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-car/seat/leon-mk3-5f/induction-kits/mst-induction-kit-with-intake-hose-1-2-and-1-4-tsi-ea211/ Dyno result: 9.3hp @5169rpm and 16.9 nm@ 2193rpm https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-car/volkswagen/golf-mk7/induction-kits/mst-induction-kit-1-4-tsi-ea211/ Max gains +5.6hp@3800rpm +10.6nm@3800rpm If you were looking for a simple option just to help the car breath a bit better, look at a panel filter, you can swap it at home within minutes and it saves a lot of hassle. https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/pipercross/pipercross-panel-filter-1-4tsi-act-engine/
  14. I tried Eco mode on my last run down to the coast (160miles) and it only gave me around 2mpg against doing the run in normal mode. Obviously there are a lot of variables in play to influence the numbers, both runs I did were as similar as possible (Only me in the car, tyre pressures set before leaving, clear run with no traffic). Eco mode in the Octavia sets the DSG to coast, changes the throttle response, alters the A/C settings, and stops the adaptive headlights from functioning. As per above, I think you would get better results by changing your driving style than changing the mode.
  15. I bought a kit from Rocket Wires (mostly because I don't like to wait), they are more expensive than those from eBay/Aliexpress but I can't fault the quality. You can choose between Halogen and Red/White LED options, also front/rear kits. I have put some images below (excuse the state of the car ).
  16. What is your soot level and oil ash mass? If your DPF has a high oil ash level, the DPF will need to be removed for cleaning or replaced, I will try and find the figures for oil ash. The soot figures (from memory) are... 0-18g Passive Regen 19-30g Active Regen 31-40g DPF Light Illuminates - Long drive with high engine speed. 40g+ Is filter replacement Have you removed the undertray and checked for signs of leaks? It could be that the sump plug or oil filter housing is leaking and the undertray is catching it. If there are no obvious leaks, then it could be the car is burning the oil and contributing to your DPF issue... which would indicate you have been sold a lemon... if it was bought from a dealer I would be informing them off the issues immediately.
  17. Was the issue present before the clutch change or did it happen after?
  18. I use the Autobrite 'classy' dressing as its a non-gloss finish, plus being spray on means it doesn't sling up if you have to drive the car after. https://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/product/classy-satin-tyre-and-rubber-dressing/ You will get it around half price in the Easter sale if you are willing to wait
  19. A lot of modern small capacity engines are turbo charged, it is part of the manufacturers to improve economy and reduce emissions. My partner has a 1.2TSi and it does the job perfectly well for every day use and it returns over 50mpg most of the time. I find it a little sluggish if your carrying a lot of weight or are trying to accelerate quickly, but I drive a 2.0 TDI so it isn't really comparable. As Roottoot said, try to test drive a couple and see what you think.
  20. Looks smart! These respond well to tuning, so definitely worth looking into a remap
  21. Can't go wrong with Delphi or Brembo as OEM replacements. I've run both on loads of cars and had no issues. GSF Car Parts stock both brands, worth dropping them a message to make sure you get the right ones unless you already know the PR code.
  22. Washed mine yesterday, it never stays clean long! 🙄
  23. I don't know of any local to you, but I can recommend Midland VW if you are willing to travel. They are top notch guys, the lead time can sometimes be two weeks as they are always flat out. https://www.midlandvw.co.uk/
  24. Hello and Welcome!
  25. These might have stock, it states at the bottom "Photos and description (section) have been downloaded from the superskoda.com" so presume it will be the same. https://maxtondesignireland.ie/product/front-grill-skoda-octavia-standard-octavia-vrs-mk3-2013-2016/
