  1. As you have lowered ride height, I suggest you go for Bilstein B8 rather than Bilstein B6 shock absorbers. However, if you think that you might fit standard ride height springs at some point in the future then Bilstein B6 would be ok. The Bilstein B8 rear shock absorbers are 20mm shorter than the Bilstein B6 rear shock absorbers, as shown in the chart below. Length of Bilstein rear shock absorbers (for Superb MK3 without DCC) Bilstein B6 24-229890 rear shock absorbers Length 677mm Bilstein B8 24-229937 rear shock absorbers Length 657mm
  2. In some countries outside Europe, the 16" option on the Rapid was 195/55R16 6Jx16 ET40 rather than 215/45R16 7Jx16 ET46 that the European Rapids were fitted with. The 195/55R16 6Jx16 ET40 option would give similar comfort levels to the standard 15" option, ie. 185/60R15 6Jx15 ET38. ET35, ET38, and ET40 offsets could all be considered with 6Jx16 rims fitted with 195/55R16 tyres. These rims are fitted to the Scala/Kamiq so there is plenty of choice. Steel 6Jx16 rims from the Scala/Kamiq are available with the ET35 and ET40 offsets, and 6Jx16 alloy rims from the Scala/Kamiq are available with the ET35 and ET38 offsets. 6Jx16 ET35 5/100 57.1 and 6Jx16 ET38 5/100 57.1 alloy rims (from the Scala/Kamiq) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kola/c/alloyWheels?q=%3AscoreDesc%3ArimDiameter%3A16%22%3AcarType%3AScala%2B%282019%2B%29%3AcarType%3AKamiq%2B%282019%2B%29&text=# Alcar 6664 6Jx16 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel rim (from Scala/Kamiq) (7.44kg) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1077003525243802724&rimCode=ALCAR6664 Alcar 6977 6Jx16 ET40 5/100 57.1 steel rim (from Scala/Kamiq) (7.44kg) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1087670437300671588&rimCode=ALCAR6977 Continental AllSeasonContact 2 195/55R16 87H (Euro label B B 71dB) https://www.camskill.co.uk/m139b0s7952p221968/Continental_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Continental_Conti_All_Season_Contact_2_195_55_R16_87H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB Vredestein Quatrac 6 195/55R16 87H (Euro label C B 70dB) https://www.camskill.co.uk/m139b0s7952p202114/Vredestein_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Vredestein_Quatrac_6_195_55_R16_87H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_70dB Another option could be 195/60R15 on the standard 15" rims, ie. 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1. 195/60R15 is a slightly cheaper tyre size than 195/55R16, is slightly more comfortable than 195/55R16, and keeps the gearing closer to standard. At just 6.6kg for the Alcar 4055 steel rim this is a particularly light rim. Compared to a 6" rim width, a 0.5" narrower 5.5" rim width will slightly improve the ride comfort further with the 195/60R15 tyre size. 3. Compared to the 225/40R19 tyre size, 215/55R17 has a 0.9% bigger outside diamete and 225/50R17 has a 0.9% smaller outside diameter...as shown in the chart below. Alloy rims with the format xxx071xxx are from the Skoda accessory catalogue, which are about 60% cheaper than from the usual parts catalogue with the xxx601xxx format. They are often the same alloy rim, except for the different OEM part number cast into the back. Skoda do this so that the alloy rims in their accessory catalogue can compete on price with aftermarket alloy rims. 7.5Jx18 ET51 alloy rim GEMINI 5E0071498E HA7 (as shown in the Skoda accessory catalogue) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kolo-gemini-18-octavia-iii/p/5E0071498E+HA7 Photo of factory alloy rim showing the location of the OEM part number 5E0601025AJ
  8. The quote, "Only for Karoq 4x4 with basic boot floor and standard rear seats" is from Skoda. Skoda don't sell the Karoq 4x4 kit for the Karoq 4x2 because it's not plug and play on that car. Hence, it only fits if you modify it such as using a longer wheel mounting bolt.
  9. The mounting bolt supplied in the Karoq 4x4 kit is too short for use in the Karoq 2x4, if using a full-size spare wheel...so a longer mounting bolt is required.
  10. The Karoq 2x4 uses the 57A093860B kit, not the 57A093860C kit which is for the Karoq 4x4...as shown below. However, it's possible to use the Karoq 4x4 kit in the Karoq 2x4's wheel well...but a longer mounting bolt will be required if using a full-size spare wheel. 57Q093860B (for Karoq 4x2) Only for Karoq 4x2 with basic boot floor and standard rear seats https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-vymenu-rezervniho-kola-18/p/57A093860B 57A093860C (for Karoq 4x4) Only for Karoq 4x4 with basic boot floor and standard rear seats https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-vymenu-rezervniho-kola-18/p/57A093860C Some bolts for mounting the spare wheel (some other length mounting bolts might be available with different OEM part numbers) 3G0803899E 99mm length mounting bolt https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/3g0803899e-bolt-for-mounting-the-spare-wheel-skoda-29256.html 5Q0803899 127mm length mounting bolt https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/5q0803899-bolt-for-mounting-the-spare-wheel-skoda-41620.html 3G0803899D 184mm length mounting bolt https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/3g0803899d-bolt-for-mounting-the-spare-wheel-skoda-41621.html 3G0803899A 214mm length mounting bolt https://www.oemvwshop.com/3g0803899a-bolt-for-spare-wheel-mounting-p739422/
  11. There are plenty of alternative alloy rims in the Skoda accessory catalogue to choose from, such as the below 16" rim that would normally use 205/60R16 on the Octavia MK4. 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 alloy rim 5E0071496L 8Z8 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kola/c/alloyWheels?q=%3AscoreDesc%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIV%2B%282019%2B%29%3ArimDiameter%3A16%22&text=#
  12. 16" rims tend to weigh less than 17" rims. That should help reduce fuel consumption, but not by much. For comfort and economy, the 16" and 17" options on the Superb MK3 are far better than the 18" and 19" options. So perhaps concentrate on the availability and price of your favourite tyres to help choose between the 16" and 17" options. 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 steel rim (for Superb MK3) (8.47kg) https://www.oponeo.pl/felga-stalowa/alcar-kfz-8426#24360987 Set of four wheel trims for 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 steel rims 3V0071456 (for Superb MK3) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-poklic-hermes-16/p/3V0071456 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 alloy rim NYOTA (for Superb MK3) (9.9kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kolo-nyota-16-superb-iii/p/3V0071496++8Z8 6.5Jx17 ET41 5/112 57.1 alloy rim TRITON (for Superb MK3) (11.7kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kolo-triton-17-superb-iii/p/3V0071497++8Z8 Continental AllSeasonContact 2 215/55/17 94V (Euro label B B 70dB) https://www.camskill.co.uk/m140b0s8825p220589/Continental_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Continental_Conti_All_Season_Contact_2_215_55_R17_94V_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_70dB

  14. 245/40R18 needs at least an 8" rim width. 245/40R18 fitted to an 8Jx18 ET44 or 8Jx18 ET45 rim might fit the Octavia MK3...although there's always a risk of rubbing or the tyre sticking out of the wheelarch when pushing the limits. 245/40R18 has a slightly smaller outside diameter than the 17" Octavia MK3 Scout tyre, ie. 225/50R17...and has an actual inflated width of only 9mm more than this 17" tyre size, ie. 4.5mm more each side. 8Jx18 ET44 5/112 57.1 black metallic alloy rim VEGA 3V0071498P FL8 (from Superb MK3) (12.2kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kolo-vega-18-superb-iii/p/3V0071498P+FL8
  15. The 19" Extreme rims are only 7.5" wide. According to ETRTO, 235/35R19, 235/40R19, 245/35R19, and 245/40R19 need at least an 8" rim width. According to ETRTO, 255/30R19 and 255/35R19 need at least an 8.5" rim width. However, some owners have fitted 235/35R19 and 235/40R19 tyres to their 7.5" width rims...although this is against ETRTO's rules. Skoda have never sold 19" rims for the Octavia MK3 that have a rim width of more than 7.5"...so 235/35R19 and 255/30R19 have never been approved by Skoda for fitment to this car...because Skoda along with all the other major car brands don't fit tyres to rim widths that aren't approved by ETRTO.
  16. I doubt the 1.4 petrol 150HP would have 25mm bushes, that's likely to be reserved for the most powerful front wheel drive cars such as the 2.0 petrol 220HP. 19. Out of the 18" tyre sizes, the Karoq front wheel drive uses the 215/50R18 tyre size, whereas the Karoq 4x4 uses the bigger 225/50R18 tyre size. One of the owner's manuals lists 215/60R16 for use with snow chains but it doesn't make any mention of whether that's for just the Karoq front wheel drive or includes the Karoq 4x4. However, it's best to check the car's CoC (Certificate of Conformity) to see all the tyre sizes that Skoda approves for any particular car. Karoq front wheel drive tyre sizes 215/60R16 215/55R17 215/50R18 225/40R19 235/40R19 Karoq 4x4 tyre sizes 225/60R16 225/55R17 225/50R18 225/45R19 245/40R19
  20. Unlike two wheel drive, powerful 4x4 cars don't need particularly wide tyres to get good traction off the line. The late model diesel Octavia MK3 VRS cars changed their front brake discs from 340x30mm (which need 17" rims to clear the front brake calipers) to 312x25mm (which need 16" rims to clear the front brake calipers). If you want high performance, choose the right tyre for the conditions. Perhaps Continental PremiumContact 7 for the summer, Continental AllSeasonContact 2 for a mild winter, or Continental WinterContactTS870 for a very cold/snowy winter. A high performance summer tyre becomes a low performance winter tyre when the temperature drops much below 7 degrees Centrigrade. Unsprung weight can have a big effect on the handling of a car, especially when the road is bumpy. To give you an idea of the potential weight savings of using smaller diameter rims, see the below chart. Figures are only approximate because each rim model will be slightly different. Approximate weight of alloy rims for Octavia MK3 16" rims 9kg 17" rims 11kg 18" rims 13kg 19" rims 15kg Steel rims often weigh less than alloy rims of the same specification. 22. Your 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 MATO alloy rims with OEM part number 6V0071495 8Z8 are not original because the xxx071xxx format of the OEM part number means they are from the Skoda accessory catalogue. These MATO alloy rim are still available to purchase from the Skoda accessory catalogue and the Czech price is about £120, although expect UK VAG dealers to charge a little more. One of the standard wheel sizes on the Fabia MK3 is 215/45R16 7Jx16 ET46, so 195/55R15 6Jx15 ET43 isn't going to rub. Although the ET43 offset moves the centre of the tyre 5mm further into the wheelarch, because the 195/55R15 tyre size has a "nominal" 10mm increase in width they should fill the wheelarches a similar amount to the standard 15" wheel size, ie. 185/60R15 6Jx15 ET38...so should look sunken in the wheelarch. You can see in the chart below, that the 195/55R15 tyre size has a slightly smaller outside diameter than the standard Fabia MK3 tyre size. As a general guide, less than a 1.5% difference isn't much. However, when fitting non-standard tyre sizes it's more common to go slightly bigger rather than slightly smaller. For maximum protection from kerbing damage on the 6Jx15 ET43 rim, 205/55R15 could be used. ETRTO approved rim widths for passenger car tyres 205/55R15 5.5-6.5-7.5 A non-standard 205/55R15 6Jx15 wheel size is a much more comfortable wheel size than the standard 215/45R16 7Jx16. Not only does the 205/55R15 have a higher standard load index than 215/45R16, ie. 88 (560kg) versus 86 (530kg)...but it is narrower and has a higher sidewall height...plus in this example it is fitted to a relatively narrower 6" rim width...which all adds up to a much more comfortable wheel size. To get the 205/55R15 6Jx15 wheel size to feel as hard riding as a 215/45R16 7Jx16 you would probably have to over-inflate it by at least 8psi. Considering it's easy to feel a 3psi difference in tyre pressure, an 8psi difference is a big one.
  23. As you can see in the chart below, the 245/35R21 tyre size has an outside diameter between 5.1% and 6.1% bigger than the standard tyre sizes. If you want a 9" rim width, perhaps look at something like 255/30R21 fitted to a 9Jx21 ET42...although that might rub on the inside. Fitting this tyre size to a narrower 8.5Jx21 ET40 rim would free up an extra 5mm on the inside reducing the chance of rubbing on the inside. You get an extra 2mm on inside clearance because of the different offset, ie. ET40 instead of ET42...and an extra 3mm of inside clearance because of the 0.5" narrower rim, which squeezes the sidewalls together more. Note that there's always a risk of rubbing or the tyre sticking too far out when you start pushing the limits, and it's possible that even a 255/30R21 fitted to a 8.5Jx21 ET40 rim could rub or stick out from the wheelarch. Outside diameter of tyres 215/60R16 664.4mm 235/40R19 670.6mm 245/35R21 704.9mm (5.1% to 6.1% bigger outside diameter compared to the standard tyre sizes) 255/30R21 686.4mm (2.4% to 3.3% bigger outside diameter compared to the standard tyre sizes) ETRTO approved rim widths for passenger car tyres 35 Series 235/35R21 8.0-8.5-9.5 245/35R21 8.0-8.5-9.5 255/35R21 8.5-9.0-10.0 30 Series 245/30R21 8.0-8.5-9.0 255/30R21 8.5-9.0-9.5 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 255/30R21 93Y XL (Euro label D A 71dB) https://www.camskill.co.uk/m74b0s1134p156359/Michelin_Tyres_Car_Michelin_Pilot_Sport_4S_PS4S_255_30_R21_(93Y)_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_D_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB The below VISION alloy rims from the Skoda Enyaq are claimed to weigh 15.3kg each, which isn't much more than some of the standard 19" alloy rims on the Superb MK3. 8.5Jx21 ET40 5/112 57.1 alloy rims VISION (from Skoda Enyaq) (15.3kg each) Black metallic 5LG071491K FL8 Black metallic and red 5LG071491P CZX Black metallic and green 5LG071491AK FJI Silver metallic 5LG071491M 8Z8 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kola/c/alloyWheels?q=%3AscoreDesc%3AcarType%3AEnyaq%2B%282020%2B%29%3ArimDiameter%3A21%22&text=# As you can see in the chart below, a 255/30R21 tyre fitted to an 8.5J rim is 18mm wider than the standard 235/45R18 tyre fitted to an 8J rim, ie. 9mm more each side. As an ET40 offset moves the centre of the tyre 4mm outward compared to an ET44 offset, the tyre is very unlikely to rub on the inside...except that extra consideration needs to be given to the clearance on the front when the steering wheel is turned to full lock...because of the extra outside diameter of the 255/30R21 sized tyre compared to the standard 235/40R19 sized tyre. However, the extra radius of the 255/30R21 tyre compared to the 235/40R19 tyre is only 7.9mm...so I doubt the 255/30R21 tyre fitted to a 8.5Jx21 ET40 rim would rub on the inside. Considering some owners have fitted 15mm spacers to their 235/40R19 tyres on standard 8Jx19 ET44 rims...I doubt 255/30R21 tyres fitted to 8.5Jx21 ET40 rims would rub on the outside either because the extra outside clearance needed is only 13mm, and the owners who have fitted 15mm spacers have proved that their is at least an extra 15mm of clearance on the outside. Actual inflated width of tyres (measured from outside of sidewall to sidewall, at the widest point) 235/45R18 fitted to 8.0J rim 236mm 255/30R21 fitted to 8.5J rim 254mm

  25. I recently purchased a new car battery (Varta) from a big ebay seller. However, it wasn't shipped from them but from Tayna...which just goes to show how big Tayna is. It might be the biggest supplier of car batteries in the UK. The packaging was excellent as it was purpose made to ship car batteries, and because Tayna sell so many car batteries they are likely to supply a recently manufactured car battery rather than one that has been sitting around for months. Their prices are competitive too. Most Skodas have either size 2, size 3, or size 4. They all have the same width of 175mm, and the same height of 190mm...so it's just the length that varies...which makes it easy to identify the size required.
