  1. Maybe the broken spring caused the tracking to be pushed out. If so, the the problem is now fixed. Keep a careful eye for the same wear pattern on the new tyres.
  2. Maybe someone else could answer that question, as I don't have a Fabia vRS. If you order that one from ebay today, you might receive it by next weekend. However, you can use a multimeter across the battery terminals when the engine is running to perform the same check.
  3. 205/55R16 or 205/60R16 are full sizes wheels. Skoda do not refer to these sizes as space savers. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kompletni-rezervni-kolo-16/p/5E0601011J However, you will notice from the above link that these full size spares still have the same 50mph yellow warning stickers on them as space savers do. This is because if you are running different tyre sizes on the same axle, you mustn't exceed 50mph. Using different tyre sizes on the same axle is only to be used as a temporary get you home measure.
  4. If you put a voltmeter in the cigar lighter socket with the engine running, what voltage does it show? Cigarette Lighter Voltmeter https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Car-Auto-Battery-Electric-Cigarette-Lighter-Voltmeter-Voltage-Meter-Tester/393174288865?hash=item5b8b0389e1:g:FNIAAOSwz5JgQfLe If the voltmeter shows about 14.0V to 14.4V with the engine running, then your battery is being charged OK.
  5. What make, model, and size are the tyres?
  6. Before September 2017, all cars at dealerships had CO2 values based on the old NEDC test (the New European Driving Cycle). https://www.wltpfacts.eu/same-car-different-co2-values/ The NEDC was the old test, so I can't see that you should have a problem registering the car with the old CO2 value.

  8. Have you looked for information on these links? https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/register-a-used-vehicle-for-the-first-time-v555 https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk It sounds like you have been incorrectly advised, as a 2014 vehicle won't have been tested using the later CO2 test. Try and speak to different people on the phone at DVLA and maybe even HMRC. You want to make your problem their problem. You have to tell HMRC within 14 days that you have brought a vehicle into the country.
  9. Contact a local Skoda dealer and ask them if they can replace your front (not fit for purpose) shock absorbers free of charge (as a goodwill gesture), as they should not leak before 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first...IMHO. If your local Skoda dealer doesn't know already, tell them that there has been a Technical Service Bulletin on Octavia MK3 front shock absorbers leaking. If you don't get them changed free of charge, I suggest you contact Skoda UK by phone and email. Skoda UK should be able to work with you and your local Skoda dealer to get this problem put right, free of charge...IMHO.
  10. If you were to clean the shock absorbers and not drive the car, you probably wouldn't see any more oil coming out. It's when the car is driven and the shock absorbers move up and down that oil will come out. I agree with J.R. that you can pass the MOT with some misting (a little oil that has come out) as long as they are still damping properly. However, once you start to loose quite a bit of oil they will no longer damp properly. Worn shock absorbers, as well as having a negative effect on the car's handling and braking, will cause the tyres to wear out quicker. Good quality shock absorber can often (but not always) last 10 years or more, although this does depend on mileage to quite a large degree. It must be quite disappointing for a 2017 Octavia MK3 to have leaking shocks. How many miles has it done?
  11. It looks like you need new front shock absorbers. They shouldn't be leaking oil like that. If you don't change them, I doubt the car will pass the next MOT.
  12. TRINITY has a specification of 7.5Jx18 ET46 and is an OEM fitment on the Octavia MK3 Scout, and the Superb MK2. It's not an Octavia MK4 wheel. It's marketed as made from "light alloy", but at 13.5kg in weight it's anything but lightweight. I would think the "heavy steel" 7.5Jx18 ET50 rim from the VW ID.3 would be lighter, although I don't have a weight for that one. 13. Replacing a 6.5J rim with an 8J rim means that you are increasing the rim width by 1.5" (38.1mm), which works out at 19.05mm each side. Changing the offset from ET46 to ET45 moves the centre of the rim outwards by 1mm. Therefore, adding the two together (19.05mm+1mm) means that the rim will stick out 20.05mm more than before. 8J is unnecessarily wide for a 225/40 tyre. 7.5J is plenty, which is what most of the OEM 18" Skoda Octavia MK3 rims use along with an ET51 offset (Scout models use a little less offset than this). Comparing a 7.5Jx18 ET51 rim with an 8Jx18 ET45 rim, results in the 8Jx18 ET45 rim sticking out by 12.35mm more than the 7.5Jx18 ET51 rim. What you choose could depend on whether or not you like sticky out rims, and whether you like the sides of your car coated in mud every time you drive down a dirty road.

  16. The special-edition BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition model unveiled at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show used 215/45R20 front and 245/40R20 rear tyres. Note that 245/40R20 tyres are too wide and low profile to fit 7.5J rims. Special edition[edit] The special-edition BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition model was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. The Protonic Red Edition will be produced at BMW Plant Leipzig from July 2016. This special edition car sports a Protonic Red paint finish with accents in Frozen Grey metallic. The colour scheme is complemented by BMW W-spoke 470 light-alloy wheels painted in Orbit Grey metallic with hubs painted in Aluminium matt and mixed-size tires (front: 215/45 R20, rear: 245/40 R20). Inside the car features red double-stitching and applications in high-grade carbon fibre and ceramic trim. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_i8 PROXES SPORT Answering the need for superior handling, new Proxes Sport was designed as a focused, sports performance tyre. I would stick to at least 94 (670kg), as this is lowest load index mentioned on the fuel filler flap. It would be very easy for an insurance assessor to refuse a claim if he sees 90 (600kg) load rated tyres on a Superb MK3...and 225/35R20 really stand out as not being able to support the necessary weight.
  17. 225/35 and 225/40 are not ETRTO recommended sizes on a 7J rim. I would go for 215/45R20 front and 235/40R20 rear on those rims. That should also help give you more confidence and safety when cornering on the limit. Outside diameter of 215/45R20 is 701.5mm Outside diameter of 235/40R20 is 696mm So when the front has 2.75mm of tread wear, it will equal the outside diameter of the rear tyre. Or in percentage terms, the front tyre has an outside diameter 0.8% more than the rear. Not only that, but there are two matching Michelin tyres in those sizes. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S PS4S - 215/45R20 95Y XL https://www.camskill.co.uk/m63b0s9268p196556/Michelin_Tyres_Car_Michelin_Pilot_Sport_4S_PS4S_-_215_45_R20_(95Y)_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_71dB Michelin Pilot Sport 4S PS4S - 235/40R20 96Y XL https://www.camskill.co.uk/m63b0s11827p167799/Michelin_Tyres_Car_Michelin_Pilot_Sport_4S_PS4S_-_235_40_R20_(96Y)_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_71dB 235/40 also isn't ETRTO approved for fitment to a 7.5J rim. However, it fits a 7.5J rim better than 245/45 fits a 7.5J rim, which is an ETRTO approved fitment. The problem with ETRTO's approvals, is that ETRTO groups tyre sizes together. According to ETRTO, 225/35 and 245/45 fit a 7.5J rim, but the tyre size in the middle of these two tyre sizes (235/40) doesn't fit. ETRTO has grouped 235/35 and 235/40 together, and because 235/35 doesn't fit a 7.5J rim, it follows that 235/40 doesn't fit (even though it does). A second example is 185/70, 195/60, and 205/50. According to ETRTO, 185/70 fits a 4.5" rim and 205/50 fits a 5.5" rim, but 195/60 doesn't fit a 5J rim. The reason being, is that ETRTO has grouped 195/50 and 195/60 together (along with 195/55 and 195/65)...and because 195/50 doesn't fit a 5J rim, it follows that 195/60 doesn't fit a 5J rim (even though it does). In fact, the 195/60 tyre size fits a 5J rim better than a 205/50 tyre size fits a 5.5J rim. A third example is 185/50, 195/60, and 205/70. According to ETRTO, 185/50 and 205/70 fit a 5J rim but 195/60 doesn't...even though 195/60 is in the middle of the other two sizes. Again, ETRTO has grouped 195/50 together with 195/60 (along with 195/55 and 195/65)...thereby preventing the approval of the 195/60 tyre size for fitment to a 5J rim. In fact, the 195/60 tyre size fits a 5J rim better than a 185/50 tyre size.
  18. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 are high performance summer tyres. They are just as bad as eco tyres in temperatures much below 10 degrees Centigrade. It's a beginner's mistake to think that wider tyres always have more grip than narrower tyres, especially in slippery conditions. Vredestein all-season tyre 205/55R16 91V https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/vredestein/quatrac/205/55/R16/V/91/m?tyre=41007468 Which? magazine found out decades ago in their tyre tests that 195/65R15 works better than the wider 205/55R16 size in difficult conditions. In the wet, the best 205/55r16 tyre was taking about 10% longer to stop than the best 195/65R15 tyre. Continental all-season tyre 215/45R18 https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&cart_id=QyRtzG9fB9OOGOug.110.826590224&sowigan=GAN&Breite=215&Quer=45&Felge=18&kategorie=6&rsmFahrzeugart=ALL&Label=B-B-72-2&details=Ordern&typ=R-415263 The 215/45R18 size is well over twice the price of the common 195/65R15 and 205/55R16 sizes. The Kamiq uses either 256mm or 276mm diameter front discs, which are small sizes. Even the larger 276mm diameter front brake discs only need 15" rims to clear the front brake calipers. Using 18" rims, makes the front brakes look tiny. It's much better aesthetically to use smaller rims.

  21. It sounds like you're using the original eco tyres. These are made for low rolling resistance and the downside is they don't have much grip in cold, wet, slippery conditions. 23. 225/35R20 will give a hard ride and won't protect the rims very well from pothole damage. My preference would be 235/40R20. 235/40 fitted to 7.5J rims isn't an ETRTO approved combination, although some Octavia MK3 vRS owners are successfully running even lower profile 235/35 tyres on 7.5J rims. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S PS4S 235/40R20 96Y XL https://www.camskill.co.uk/m63b0s11827p167799/Michelin_Tyres_Car_Michelin_Pilot_Sport_4S_PS4S_-_235_40_R20_(96Y)_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_71dB 235/40R20 has a 3.8% bigger outside diameter compared to 235/40R19. 235/40R20 would better protect the rims from kerbing damage compared to 225/35R20, when either are fitted to 7.5J rims. The load index of 225/35R20 XL (eXtra Load) tyres is only 90 (600kg) and that's not enough for the Superb MK3.
  24. 215/45R20 on 7.5Jx20 ET40 rims should give better cornering than the standard 215/55R17 size and less drag than the standard 235/45R18 size, but don't forget to use 3psi more tyre pressure than when using 215/55R17 tyres due to the lower load index of 215/45R20 tyres compared to 215/55R17 tyres. Michelin Pilot 4S PS4S in size 215/45R20 95Y XL https://www.camskill.co.uk/m63b0s9268p196556/Michelin_Tyres_Car_Michelin_Pilot_Sport_4S_PS4S_-_215_45_R20_(95Y)_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_71dB If you're using BMW i8 rims, you will need 57.1mm to 66.5mm spigots to centre the rims on the hubs and probably conical wheel bolts like the BMW normally uses. Don't use the BMW i8 wheel bolts because the BMW i8 uses a M14x1.25mm thread. You will need to use wheel bolts with the Superb MK3's M14x1.5mm thread, ie. the thread's pitch is different.
