Did Skoda fit the wrong tyres on the Skoda Rapid? I'm thinking about sizing up (also 15 to 16 wheels)
What are the official tyre pressures for the various tyre sizes on the 2017 SEAT Toledo IV 1.2TSI 81kW ? I've seen 32psi (2.2 Bar) front and 29psi (2.0 Bar) rear tyres pressure mentioned on wheel-size.com for the 185/60R15 tyre size. 185/60R15 has an 84 (500kg) load index, whereas 185/65R15 has an 88 (560kg) load index. If the above tyre pressures are correct (presumably for a lightly loaded car with just two passengers), then you can drop the tyre pressures by 3psi (0.2 Bar), to 29psi (2.0 Bar) front and 26psi (1.8 Bar) rear. You are correct in that the relatively wide 6J rims are stretching the sidewalls on the 185/65 tyres thereby making them less flexible and thereby giving a harder ride. 185/65R14 tyres have the same outside diameter as 195/55R15 tyres. As you are reluctant to use 15" tyres with a larger outside diameter than standard, I would suggest using the standard 185/60R15 tyre size on relatively narrow 5Jx15 ET28 rims. Alternatively, 195/55R15 on 5.5J rims. There's not much choice in steel 5.5J rims, but 5.5Jx15 ET34 and 5.5Jx15 ET40 rims are available in Europe. You would notice a softer ride fitting 195/55R15 tyres to narrower 5.5J rims instead of 6J rims. For comfort, 185/60R15 is a better choice than the low profile stiffer carcass 195/55R15. Although 195/55R15 fitted to a 5.5J rim may be similar to a 185/60R15 fitted to a 6J rim. It's disappointing that you don't have 256mm diameter front discs, as that would allow 185/65R14 tyres on relatively narrow 5Jx14 ET35 or 5Jx14 ET38 rims. The Toyota Aygo uses 165/65R14 and 165/60R15 tyres on relatively narrow 4.5J rims, so 185/65R14 and 185/60R15 tyres fitted to 5J rims give a similar fit. The Toyota Aygo fitment of these two 165 tyre sizes is unusual to such narrow rims as the 4.5J size. Usually these 165 tyre sizes are fitted to wider 5J rims by motor manufacturers. Toyota will have done this to prioritise comfort over handling. In doing this, Toyota have risked upsetting motoring journalists when they drive hell for leather around a race track, but for everyday UK motorists many will approve of the improved ride comfort. It's certainly the way I set my cars up. Two oversize 15" tyres that you might want to consider are 175/65R15 on 5Jx15 ET28 rims, and 195/60R15 on 5.5Jx15 ET40 rims. These are both slightly less oversize than 185/65R15.

gknautomotive.com lists both versions for the Octavia MK2 1.6TDI hatchback. The 1K0511115BD version has an 11.25mm wire diameter, whereas the 1K0511115BE version is stiffer with an 11.75mm wire diameter. The BE version is for things like towing a caravan, and it will give a harder more uncomfortable ride in normal use. It's best to stick to the standard BD version unless you really need stiffer rear springs. 1K0 511 115 BD Fitting Position Rear Axle Wire Diameter 11,25 mm Length 352 mm Outer diameter 110 mm Weight 1,75 kg https://web.tecalliance.net/gkn/en/parts/1/56654/detail?targetType=cars&targetId=31590&typeNumber=31590&groups=188#@brc/brands:Car;targetType:cars/assem:SKODA%20OCTAVIA%20III%20(1Z3)%201.6%20TDI;targetType:cars;targetId:31590;typeNumber:31590/lnkparts:Coil%20Springs;targetType:cars;assemblyGroupId:100113;targetId:31590;typeNumber:31590;groups:188;brands:1;page:0/detail:56654;brandId:1;articleNo:56654;targetType:cars;targetId:31590;typeNumber:31590;groups:188 1K0 511 115 BE Fitting Position Rear Axle Wire Diameter 11,75 mm Length 348 mm Outer diameter 113 mm Weight 1,90 kg https://web.tecalliance.net/gkn/en/parts/1/86607/detail?targetType=cars&targetId=31590&typeNumber=31590&groups=188#@brc/brands:Car;targetType:cars/assem:SKODA%20OCTAVIA%20III%20(1Z3)%201.6%20TDI;targetType:cars;targetId:31590;typeNumber:31590/lnkparts:Coil%20Springs;targetType:cars;assemblyGroupId:100113;targetId:31590;typeNumber:31590;groups:188;brands:1;page:0/detail:86607;brandId:1;articleNo:86607;targetType:cars;targetId:31590;typeNumber:31590;groups:188

When cars get older, replacement aftermarket springs tend to get cheaper. Car manufacturers make a lot of money selling springs, often charging between £60 to £120 for just one spring. It's therefore in the car manufacturer's interest to hide the fact that some of the springs used on newer models are actually from older models...like in the examples above.

axle stand/jack point location
The £30 Halfords 2 tonne trolley jack is unusual among cheap 2 tonne trolley jacks in that it has a bigger/wider 67mm outside diameter saddle. Minimum saddle height 14cm. Maximum saddle height 34cm. https://www.halfords.com/tools/garage-workshop/axle-stands-trolley-jacks/halfords-2-tonne-hydraulic-trolley-jack-657081.html?utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=skimlinks_phg&utm_campaign=phgreferral The 2 tonne Halfords trolley jack has a 67mm outside diameter saddle. The relevance of this, is that it will allow a junior ice hockey puck (60mm x 20mm) to be used as a jacking pad. You do however have to remove the inner saddle to fit the 60mm x 20mm rubber jacking pad. This is easy, as it is only held in place with one circlip. Even the big Halfords 3 tonne trolley jack uses the same size saddle, so again the "junior ice hockey puck" could be used as a jacking pad to prevent metal to metal contact between the trolley jack saddle and the underside of the car. Minimum height 14cm. Maximum height 43cm. So the 3 tonne jack has a maximum saddle height of 43cm compared to the maximum saddle height of 34cm on the smaller 2 tonne trolley jack. This extra 9cm (3.5") could come in handy when placing the car on axle stands, although a block of wood could be used as a workaround with the smaller jack.

Octavia MK3 vrs springs on non vrs models??
I've only found two Eibach Pro-Kit rear springs (F11-70-012-01-HA and F11-15-007-15-HA) listed for the Octavia MK3. As you can see below, it's a one size fits all approach. The F11-15-007-15-HA model will even fit the Superb MK2 as well as the Octavia MK3. No distinction is being made between independent rear suspension and non-independent rear suspension. If this is your idea of tuning your car's suspension to perfection, then go for it. But to sell the same rear spring for the Octavia MK3 1.0TSI hatchback as the Superb MK2 3.6 V6 4x4 estate sounds a little imprecise to me. The non-independent rear sport springs have an 11mm wire diameter and 6.75 coil turns. If the number of coil turns were equal, the 11.25mm wire diameter spring would be about 5% harder, but because the 11.25mm wire diameter spring has about 10% more coil turns it's actually about 5% softer. The spring with 7.5 coil turns should last longer than the spring with 6.75 coil turns because each coil turn is flexing less.

However, because the VRS hatchback rear springs have a wire diameter 0.5mm thicker than the standard hatchback rear springs they won't compress as much. I would estimate that for every 0.25mm increase in wire diameter, the springs compress about 4mm less under the car's unladen body weight. Hence rather than 22mm shorter, the VRS hatchback rear springs will reduce the unladen ride height by about 15mm compared to the standard hatchback rear springs. The VRS estate rear springs will only reduce the standard estate's unladen ride height by about 6mm. If you don't carry much weight in the rear of your estate and don't tow a caravan, maybe consider using VRS hatchback rear springs on your estate for that low sports stance.

Scala owners - what battery installed in your car?
There are 6 common sizes of car battery. L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6 All 6 batteries are 175mm wide and 190mm high. The difference in size of the 6 batteries is the length. Approximately in inches, the batteries from the smallest L1 size to the biggest L6 size is 8", 9.5", 11", 12.5", 14", 15.5". So as you can see, the batteries go up in approximately 1.5" increments. The battery that you have is the smallest L1 size. You can see the 6 battery sizes here in AGM format. https://www.yuasa.co.uk/batteries/automotive/ybx9000-agm-batteries.html The 1.0TSI engine is small and doesn't need a big battery. What it needs is a high quality battery. If you live in a cold country such as Scandinavia you might need a bigger battery. Skoda have fitted your car with a low quality and cheap EFB battery. You need an AGM battery. Notice on the yuasa link, that the L1 AGM battery has a CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating of 520A. Your 320A rating is a joke. No wonder you are having problems. Yuasa and Varta are both top quality makes. However, they do a range of batteries, so make sure you get a top model such as the 9000 series (in the Yuasa range). Looking at the prices on ebay, you might as well go for the L4 size if it will fit as it doesn't cost much more than the smaller batteries. However, the bigger you go, the heavier the battery gets. So maybe go for the L2 size, if it will fit. It's not a good idea to match front sports springs with standard rear springs...in the same way that you wouldn't put wide low profile tyres on the front matched to skinny tyres on the back...it's a recipe for disaster.

Help me choose right et for new wheels
- Help with handling??
It sounds like the OP has a small engined softly sprung version with 225 tyres. This will be a recipe for disaster, as the tyres have loads of lateral grip which will cause too much body roll through the corners. The answer is simply. Change the 225s to standard 205s, which is what the entry level suspension will have been designed for. Even 20" wheels won't turn a Skoda into a Ferrari- Roomster 1.4 petrol poor fuel economy
It sounds like you have a slow air leak. Often this is caused by corrosion around the rim where the tyre bead sits. It can also be caused by a puncture. Check the tyres' air pressures in one or two weeks to determine the tyres which are leaking air. Then find out where the air is escaping. You may have to remove the wheel and submerge it in a bath (or other suitable container) full of water to find the air leaks. You can use a yellow crayon to mark where the leak is.- Help with handling??
I doubt it rolls as much as a Renault 12. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_12- Increasing tyre profile. Issues on a 2009 Roomster?
195/55R15 has an outside diameter of 595.5mm 195/60R15 has an outside diameter of 615mm 195/65R15 has an outside diameter of 634.5mm Changing 195/55R15 to 195/65R15 increases the outside diameter of the tyre by 6.5% which is too much. Changing 195/55R15 to 195/60R15 increases the outside diameter of the tyre by 3.25% which is acceptable with the 1.9TDI engine (ie. the high low end torque of the turbo diesel engine allows it to pull the 3.25% higher gearing adequately). Like 195/65R15, 195/60R15 is also a cheaper size than 195/55R15. You should notice increased ride comfort from the higher sidewalled 195/60R15, and you could lower your tyre pressures by 3psi compared to the 195/55R15 size due to the higher load index of the higher sidewalled tyre. Vredestein Quatrac 195/60R15 88H https://www.camskill.co.uk/m138b0s7993p202144/Vredestein_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Vredestein_Quatrac_6_-_195_60_R15_88H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_70dB I expect Goodyear will bring out their EfficientGrip Performance 2 in the 195/60R15 size later this year. However, I don't think you would be disappointed with the latest Vredestein Quatrac all-season tyre, as that has been made to provide good summer handling as well as good winter grip. Also consider 185/65R15. However, the 6Jx15 ET43 rims that you probably have (ie. standard fitment for the 195/55R15 tyre size on the Roomster) aren't optimised for this tyre size. 5.5J to 6J rims with an offset between ET38 and ET40 would be better. The latest VW Polo for example, fits its 185/65R15 tyre to a 5.5Jx15 ET40 rim. Alcar 4055 5.5Jx15 ET40 Steel Rim https://www.oponeo.pl/felga-stalowa/alcar-kfz-4055#20346887- Octavia MK3 vrs springs on non vrs models??
You can use Octavia MK3 VRS rear springs on the standard Octavia MK3. VRS rear springs are about 10% stiffer than standard. If you have an Octavia MK3 that came with a factory fitted towbar, then the VRS rear springs are the same stiffness as those. The Octavia MK3 hatchback VRS rear springs will lower the rear of the standard car by about 15mm. 5Q0511115P Wire Diameter 11,25 mm Length 326 mm Outer diameter 105 mm Weight 1,65 kg The Octavia MK3 estate VRS rear springs will lower the rear of the standard car by about 6mm. However, the exact drop will vary depending on the aftermarket brand that is chosen. 5Q0511115Q Wire Diameter 11,25 mm Length 335 mm Outer diameter 106 mm Weight 1,70 kg- Loss of rear left tyre pressure
I suggest you check for air leaks around the rim. You will need a big plastic container for the water, maybe 12 inches deep. Or do it in the bath. Rotate the wheel 360 degrees while the bottom part of the tyre and rim is under water, so that you can see all the air leaks. You might only get a slow air bubble forming, but over days and weeks what looks like a slow air bubble will actually add up to a lot of air escaping. However, it does sound like you have a corroded rim where the tyre bead sits. This problem will need to be addressed. You may want to buy a new rim, or at least a good secondhand one. All simply replace all your rims, or get them all refurbished. If you have alloy rims, you could try using a wire brush to clean up where the tyre bead sits. But you can only do this with the tyre off the rim.- Roomster 1.4 petrol poor fuel economy
It looks like you chose the wrong engine. The 1.2 12V engine is far more economic. 4.7l/100km (60.1mpg) is a lot better than 6.4l/100km (44.1mpg). This is also reflexed in the emissions figures. 125g/km versus 149g/km. Try driving a max of 80km/h (50mph). You might improve to 7l/100km (40mpg). Maybe the engine is not running correctly. Has it passed an emissions test? Have you scanned for engine fault codes? Are you running tyres wider than 185s? Are your brakes rubbing? After a drive, feel all four wheel rims to see if they are hot. Is the engine running smoothly? Maybe change the car to a diesel. - Help with handling??
