  2. This "VW Online Parts Catalogue" is great for finding OEM part numbers. http://www.oemepc.com autodoc is great for finding aftermarket parts https://www.autodoc.co.uk
  3. The speedo over-reads by about 5% on standard tyres, so fitting oversize can actually make the speedo more accurate. It's easy to check with google maps, as that can be used as a very accurate gps speedo.
  4. For many the difference is just academic. They are both very powerful brakes. One could argue that the 345mm brakes are more authentic, ie. of the right age/era for the Octavia MK2. The VW group were still using the 345mm brakes until 2013 on many cars such as the Golf/Leon/Superb, and even later than that on a couple of models such as the Golf Cabriolet and the Scirocco...and until 2011 on the Passat. Another advantage to using the older 345mm discs, is cheap brake pads. As parts get older, things often get cheaper. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401016373892?epid=249653324&hash=item5d5e704284:g:D0oAAOSwfsFZdB7j https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253048050812?epid=249653324&hash=item3aead6d47c:g:L7gAAOSwqVBZaxfI
  5. The later 340mm front brake discs are better than the older 345mm front brake discs. The VW group started to use the 340mm front brake discs on the 2008 Superb, as shown in the chart below. 340mm front brake discs weigh about 10.8kg each, whereas the 345mm front brake discs weigh about 12.1kg each. The ventilated part of the 340mm disc is wider at 11mm wide versus only 9.5mm wide on the older 345mm version, so the cooling is better. The brake pads have a larger surface area on the 340mm brake discs, as they are about 175mm wide compared to only about 155mm wide on the older version. The 345mm brakes are an ATE design, whereas the 340mm brakes are a TRW design. 340x30mm Front Brake Discs 1K0615301AD brake disc (vented) 340X30MM 5X112 http://www.oemepc.com/tvn_result/search/tvn/1K0615301AD The 340x30mm 1K0615301AD front brake discs were fitted to the following Europe, Spanish, and Czech built cars Catalog Model code Model Name Years Audi A3 Audi A3/S3/Sportb./Lim./qu 2013 2014 2015 2016 Audi A3CA Audi A3 Cabriolet 2015 2016 Volkswagen CC CC 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 Volkswagen GOLF Golf/Variant/4Motion 2013 2014 2015 2016 Volkswagen PA Passat/4Motion/Santana 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 Volkswagen PA Passat/4Motion/Santana 2015 2016 Volkswagen PACC Passat CC 2009 2010 2011 2012 Catalog Model code Model Name Years Seat LE Leon/Leon 4 2013 2014 2015 2016 Catalog Model code Model Name Years Skoda OCT Octavia 2013 2014 2015 2016 Skoda SUP Superb 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Skoda SUP Superb 2014 2015 2016 The 345mm front brake disc OEM part number is 1K0615301M Catalog Model code Model Name Years Skoda SUP Superb 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 The Superb MK2 was fitted with both versions, the 345mm version and the 340mm version. 7. This foam insert with jack, wheel wrench, etc. is for the Octavia MK3. It might fit the Superb MK2, as they appear to use the same spare wheel mounting bolt. 1025CZK is about £34.47 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-vymenu-rezervniho-kola-pro-octavia-iii/p/5E0093860B It might be worth seeing if a local Skoda dealer can get the correct spare wheel foam insert and jack/wheel wrench, etc. for your vehicle. For the spare wheel you could use a 6.5Jx16 ET46 steel rim with a 205/55R16 tyre, again from the Octavia MK3. There are other options such as a 6Jx16 ET50 with 205/55R16 tyre, as this is an approved winter tyre size for the Superb MK2. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kompletni-rezervni-kolo-16/p/5E0601011J Octavia MK3 6.5Jx16 ET46 steel rim with 205/55R16 tyre https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kompletni-rezervni-kolo-16/p/5E0601011J Superb MK2 spare wheel foam insert http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/SUP/year/2012/drive_standart/632/hg_ug/011/subcategory/11010/part_id/2546939/lang/e Octavia MK3 spare wheel foam insert http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2016/drive_standart/753/hg_ug/011/subcategory/11010/part_id/2546939/lang/e
  8. The problem might be caused by using an airline. Water builds up inside the compressor's tank, so that when you top up your tyres with air, you also inject water. I always use a bicycle track pump to top up my tyres (only once every 6 months...as they don't lose more than about 3psi during that time period) as that doesn't inject water into the inside of the tyre. Any water inside the tyre will corrode the rims around where the tyre beads sit. You can get 6.5Jx17 ET38 steel rims from the Kodiaq. https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/rim-selector?type=steel&vehicle_ids=639488607098246256 Not exactly the same as the 7Jx17 ET45, so 0.5" narrower and the ET38 offset moves the centre of the tyre outwards by 7mm compared to the ET45 offset. These steel rims would probably be better with 215/55R17 tyres on the Yeti, which is the size the Karoq and Superb MK3 uses.
  9. There's four different sizes listed in the Skoda online parts catalogue: 253mm (Build Code 1KD) Brake pads 1K0698451J http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2012/drive_standart/663/hg_ug/615/subcategory/615060/part_id/2550123/lang/e 258mm/260mm (Build Code 1KF) Brake Pads 1K0698451G http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2012/drive_standart/663/hg_ug/615/subcategory/615065/part_id/2550123/lang/e 272mm (Build Codes 1KS, 1KT) Brake Pads 5K0698451 http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2012/drive_standart/663/hg_ug/615/subcategory/615063/part_id/2550123/lang/e 282mm (Build Code 1KP) Brake Pads 1K0698451G http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2012/drive_standart/663/hg_ug/615/subcategory/615062/part_id/2550123/lang/e
  10. There doesn't seem to be much demand from Octavia MK3 VRS owners to downgrade to 288mm front brakes. Greece is a hot country. 340mm front discs will run cooler than smaller discs. Porsche calipers won't help with cooling. To save weight, you could run narrower 205/50R17 tyres on 6.5Jx17 ET38 rims from a Kodiaq. 11. As you can see below, 7.5J is the normal rim width for a 235/50R18 tyre. 6.5J and 7J would give the most comfortable ride, with 8J and 8.5J giving the least comfortable ride because the sidewalls are being stretched. Tyre Size Approved Rim Width Range (inch) 235/50R18 6.5-7.5-8.5 https://www.toyo.co.uk/tirefinder/index/width/235/aspect/50/rim/18
  12. Is your winter tyre size 215/55R17 ? One of the problems affecting the ride comfort is the wide 8J rims which you may have fitted as standard. 235/50R18 could be fitted to much narrower 6.5J or 7J rims. By fitting them to 8J rims you are stretching the sidewalls which makes the sidewalls flex less easily, and thereby transmitting more of the bumps to you. For comfort, it's also important to choose tyres that have soft, flexible sidewalls. If you are fitting UHP (Ultra High Performance) summer tyres, then these tend to have stiff sidewalls because they are not made for comfort but for handling. Skoda do sell slightly narrower 7.5J 18" rims, in anthracity and silver. TRINITY alloy rims 7.5Jx18 ET46 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-trinity-18-pro-superb-ii-octavia-iii-scout/p/3T0071498A+HA7 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-trinity-18-pro-superb-ii-octavia-iii/p/3T0071498J+8Z8 235/45R18 has a load index of 94 (670kg) @ 3 Bar (44 psi) 235/50R18 has a load index of 97 (730kg) @3 Bar (44 psi) Did you lower your tyre pressures by 0.2 Bar (3 psi) when you changed from 235/45R18 to 235/50R18 ? If not, that would go a long way to explaining why you didn't notice much difference in ride comfort. A 0.2 Bar (3 psi) difference in tyre pressure is easily noticeable. If you want to try out some cheap 7.5Jx18 ET50 steel rims, then these are the size of the ones used on the VW ID.3 electric car. Alcar 9383 7.5Jx18 ET50 Steel Rims https://www.oponeo.pl/felga-stalowa/alcar-kfz-9373#21889193 7.5J is ok for 235/50 tyres, and is really as wide as you would want to go. It's like fitting 195/50 tyres to 6.5J rims. Uniroyal Rainsport 5 235/50R18 97V might be softer riding than what you have now https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Uniroyal/RainSport-5/235-50-R18-97V/R-402383 For maximum comfort, it's important not to have a higher speed rating than you need, or XL (eXtra Load) if you don't need it. For example, 235/50R18 97V instead of 235/50R18 101Y for the Superb MK3 190HP, as the car doesn't go over 240km/h (150mph) and doesn't need tyres with a higher load index than 97. Skoda Superb 2020 2.0TDI 190HP Tire Rim 235/45ZR18 94W 8Jx18 ET44 2.4 / 2.2 235/40ZR19 96W 8Jx19 ET44 2.5 / 2.3
  13. The below cars all use 340mm front brake discs with OEM part number 1K0615301AD. The Skoda online parts catalogue only goes up to 2016. However, later cars such as Karoq, Kodiaq, Superb MK3 also use these 340mm front brake discs on certain models. Find this 340mm front brake disc in the Skoda online parts catalogue, and then make a note of the associated parts such as the brake calipers and brake carriers. I suggest you just look at left calipers and left carriers to begin with, as the right ones are simply the matching pairs which you can choose after deciding which left caliper and left carrier you want to use. 18. You put the deflated 215/45R16 where the inflated 185/60R15 spare wheel was. The 215 tyre is only 215mm when inflated. When deflated, ie. punctured, the 215mm tyre magically becomes the width of the rim that it is fitted to, ie. 7" (177.8mm) in the case of the 215/45R16 tyre fitted to a 7Jx16 ET46 rim. The 7" (177.8mm) rim is a actually a little more on the outside...maybe 185mm...as the 7" is measured on the inside of the rim.
  19. If you had fitted the 215/60R16 tyre to a 6Jx16 rim, your lifted carpet would have been about 6mm lower. That's because the width of a 215/60R16 tyre fitted to a 6.5J rim is 221mm wide, but fitted to a 0.5" narrower 6J rim it's only about 215mm wide. 215/60 R16 16 99V XL 8.7 664 221 6.0-6.5-7.5 C B 70 dB 195/65R16, 205/60R16, or 205/65R16 fitted to a 6J rim (or maybe even a 6.5J rim) and the carpet may have been completely flush. Notice is the chart below that a 205/55R16 is 214mm wide when fitted to a 6.5J rim (the size that Skoda sell as a spare for the Superb MK3...although it's actually an Octavia MK3 spare wheel...at 6.5Jx16 ET46). Maybe a 215/60R16 fitted to a 6J rim would fit with the carpet flush ??? 20. It might be an idea to fit the 205 tyre size to a narrower 6J rim, instead of a wider 6.5J rim. This is because rim width affects tyre width (as measured from one side of the sidewall to the other side of the sidewall). For example, the 205 tyre will be about 6mm narrower when fitted to a 6J rim, compared to a wider 6.5J rim. It could be the difference between getting the spare wheel to sit flush in the boot and not. Another example, a 205/55 tyre might be 199mm wide when fitted to a 6J rim, 205mm wide when fitted to a 6.5J rim, and 211mm wide when fitted to a 7J rim, ie. as the rim gets wider, so does the tyre width. 205 is only 205, when fitted to the nominal rim width. 6.5J is the nominal rim width for the 205/55 tyre size. Toyo claim that their Proxes CF2 tyre in size 205/55R16 is actually 214mm wide when fitted to a 6.5J rim, and their Proxes CF2 tyre in size 215/60R16 is actually 221mm wide when fitted to a 6.5J rim. So changing from a 215/60R16 to a 205/55R16 on the same 6.5J rim, could result in only a 7mm difference, not the full 10mm which you might have been expecting. https://www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/proxes-cf2 205/55 R16 16 94V XL 8.5 632 214 5.5-6.5-7.5 C B 70 dB 215/60 R16 16 99V XL 8.7 664 221 6.0-6.5-7.5 C B 70 dB If a 205/55R16 fitted to a 6.5J rim fits flush in the boot, then a 215/60R16 fitted to a narrower 6J rim might also fit flush in the boot. Superb MK3 tyres such as 215/60R15 have an outside diameter about 5% bigger than 205/55R16. However, 205/55R16 is a cheap tyre size (it's Europe's most popular car tyre size). For the Superb MK3, I would choose the Superb MK3's 6.5x16 ET41 rim size over the Octavia MK3's 6.5Jx16 ET46 rim size, even if I fitted a cheap 205/55R16 to use as a spare. 22. No one makes a 205/50R18 tyre size. You might be thinking of 205/50R17 which has a similar outside diameter to 205/55R16. However, both these tyre sizes are too small for the Superb MK3. Someone was saying that a 215/60R16 was just slightly too wide to fit flush in the spare wheel well, and that 205/65R16 fitted. Maybe try a 195/65R16 92V fitted to a Superb MK1 6Jx16 ET40 steel rim. https://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s8631p114095/Michelin_Tyres_Car_Michelin_Energy_Saver_-_195_65_R16_92V_(MO)_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_70dB It's got to be better than using one of those skinny space savers.

  24. Why didn't you order the car with a factory fitted towbar? Maybe cost or having to wait for the delivery of a factory order. Skodas with factory fitted towbars are usually fitted with stiffer rear springs, eg. one weight range higher. However, unless the caravan's nose weight is more than about 50kg I wouldn't have thought this was necessary...especially when fitting stiffer rear springs means compromising the ride quality.
  25. The easiest way to find an air leak, is to submerge the tyre/rim in water. Look for an air bubble forming to see where the air leak is. When you have spotted the leak, you can use a yellow crayon to mark the spot. Don't forget to check all the way around, in case there is more than one leak.
