Haven't heard anything unusual here, but i admit i used laptop speakers. If you are referring to this "diesel-like" sound of the engine, this is perfectly normal for modern petrols. They are using high pressure direct injection now (350 bar in 1.5 TSI), and this sound is partly/mostly due to injectors as far as i know.

It's actually normal at the very beginning. Some parts are coming to the factory protected by some kind of oil. At the very beginning this oil is getting "burned" out and that's the smell. It should go away in some time. Had exactly same thing in my previous Leon and Ateca (both petrol).

Technically it's possible, but am not sure if dealership will do it. Question is, if it's worth it? I had one in Ateca, i think it's the same type. Charger is 5W only, so it's not really charing the phone when using wireless AA or CarPlay. Also i haven't seen much of a positive effect of signal amplifier. Those are the reasons for not adding it to my Octavia config. I just think it's not worth the price.

Yes, you can set the option to remember your SPIN, so that it doesn't ask for it every time. This option can be set somewhere in user settings.

Actually there is roughly 90 degrees between on and off positions.

Switch is not broken. It's just that plastic cover of the rotating part is rotated by 180 degrees. Don't know if it can be removed to fix it. If not, report it to the garage next time you're in, and they should either fix it or replace the switch.

Owned 2014 Leon, 2018 Ateca and my wife still owns 2013 Ibiza. None of those were problematic, except for some minor things (some noise from the trim for example). Also interior quality was on par with Skoda. Door cards were certainly better, than in my current MK4 Octavia. Our Ibiza is now 115k km and so far we had to replace timing chain (1.2 TSI EA111 - problem in all cars with this engine) and rear dumpers. Otherwise normal things like oil and brakes. Nothing more, so i would not say it is overly problematic car... Don't have experience with MK3 Octavia, but from my experience with Seats (compared to MK4 Octavia), they have stiffer suspension (especially FR) and much worse tire/rolling noise. Tire noise in Leon was really annoying. MK3 Leon was really nice car, except for this tire noise and stiff suspension, but for some reason MK4 Leon has awful driving position (on top of being loud and stiff). I couldn't find a good one, and it caused my back to hurt. No such problem in Octavia. If one is looking for comfort, i would say Octavia is a better choice. Leon is better for the ones looking for something more "sporty".

I would say the difference is mostly aerodynamics, and some effect of mHEV. As said - Ateca with same engine was nowhere near those results. Of course it's a bigger car with worse aerodynamics, but still... MK4 is really very, very good when it comes to aerodynamics with it's Cx of 0,249: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_drag_coefficient The faster you drive, the bigger difference it makes, both for performance and fuel economy.

Quite nice and informative. Actually mHEV is what makes S&S finally usable. Generator-motors has enough power to start engine instantaneously without (much) vibration and lag, and additional Li-Ion battery used by this system minimizes the risk of battery failure. My 2 previous cars were Seat Leon (1.4 TSI 122HP) and Ateca (1.5 TSI DSG). In both first thing i did was to disable S&S. Despite of that i had 2 battery failures in Leon within 4,5 years of ownership (one when the car was 1,5 year old). I did that to save engine, but also because engine start was annoying and generated quite some vibrations. And finally in Ateca it caused huge lag (not so much in Leon, as it was MT, so engine started when clutch was pressed, which gave more control over S&S). Now in Octavia i never disable it. In a way stopped caring SO much about the engine, as i will probably change the car before anything happens anyway. But mostly because it's so usable finally. It starts engine in a blink of an eye, with no vibration and lag. It's perfect. And really saves fuel, especially in heavy traffic in the city. 1.4 TSI was exceptionally good engine. As said - i had Leon 5F with 1.4 122 HP (EA211). It was great. Very quiet, punchy and economical. By comparison 1.5 is more noisy, probably due to GPF, and at least in the beginning it was not so economical (at least 150 HP version in my Ateca). Now it's better than first series, but is it better than 1.4? I doubt it. But i'm anyway pleased now. Just had a vacation road trip. 4300km from Poland, through Baltics, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and back to Poland. Mix of highways, speedways and smaller roads. Average speed around 100km/h. Average consumption from this was 5.45l/100km. Least i had was 4.7 in the Baltics (some highway in Lithuania, mostly one carriage roads), most was 5.7 (highways in Denmark, 130km/h, Germany, 130-150km/h and strong wind in the nose, and Poland 140km/h, next speedway in Poland, 120km/h) on 1100km trip. It's pretty good as for rather large car with petrol engine, with 2 adults, 2 kids and trunk full (literally full) of stuff for 2 week trip. So far it seems Octavia is a bit more economical, than my Leon used to be (maybe by 0,5l/100km) and MUCH more economical than Ateca (roughly 30% - will never buy SUV again, unless normal cars are not available anymore ).

Depends on what you mean by "few points per liter", but in my case it seems to be around 0.5l/100km. Test drove manual and DSG versions on the same route, in same conditions, mix of city and highway. 0.5l/100 is roughly 7-10% (in my case), so it's rather considerable difference i would say. Manufacturers tend to do more crazy things to achieve 5% savings Also mHEV need some getting used to, to use it's potential. Anyway i wanted DSG, and this is only possible combination. Price difference between manual and mHEV in Poland was the same, as with other cars between manual and DSG (without mHEV), so this system is kind of free for me I like it a lot.

Actually it does, at least in the city driving. The least you get is a really, really user friendly S&S system, which can save quite some fuel in the traffic jams. Also coasting brings some benefit. I would actually say, that level of added complexity is really low by today standards. It's really just a battery and DC-DC converter, not counting generator-motor, which is just replacing alternator. I really like it.

Try with another cable. If it doesn't work, i guess you need to visit dealership. For me my Pixel 6 indicates fast charging when connected to Octavia's USB-C ports, so current is not so low.

Thanks for confirmation. Mine did that sometimes on older firmware (1804), and at that time i had constant error of emergency call. After upgrade to 1896 error is gone, but sound i still there every now and than, although i think it less frequent.

Does it sound like a bent plastic? Wondering if this is what i'm having (probably yes). I noticed, that it happens to me in some spots, like nearby airport.

That's why i said, it's probably different for everyone I'm not bothered by lack if physical controls. Besides many people says, that with physical controls one can control AC without looking at it. Well, i never learned how to do that Having 2 VAG cars with same controls before (Leon 5F and Ateca), i could only change temp and fan speed without looking at the panel. For everything else i had to look. If you think of panel placement, it wasn't really that much safer, as now at least display is so high, that it's much easier and faster to look at it, than to look for button markings way lower...

I also use travel assist, and i like it. But for me there's seems to be a big difference between those systems. On the other hand i haven't driven with this assisted lane change, so maybe i would change my mind after testing it live? For now i'm just judging based on info and one short video, and that's why i haven't said " it is a gimmick", instead i said "it seems to be a gimmick"

It's probably different for everyone, but personally i don't really understand this desire to have physical AC controls. I'm setting AC literally twice per year - temp for summer and temp for winter, and otherwise leave it on auto. All other function which i would like to have physical buttons for are there, either on central console, or on the steering wheel (like volume control etc.).

Not really. I know of few cases of erratic emergency braking, that was fixed by calibration. One was my friend's Kodiaq. Everything was working perfectly, except for the fact, that every now and than car would emergency brake on an empty road. It was fixed with radar re-calibration, and issue never came back. And i believe this is real issue here... So it looks to be kind of a gimmick anyway. Since you anyway have to keep your hands on the wheel (which one should always do ), what's the point of that really? You still have to have side assist to have this system, and side assist itself will help to avoid any mishaps. Or maybe it's so that driver will not get tired by turning the wheel? At current status seems more like gimmick to me, like a marketing thing "look what tech we have!". But there will probably be some, that will like it, so better to have options, than not to have them

They are PD compatible, but am not sure of the limits exactly. However 10W offered Skodamk4 seems reasonable, and we know it works.

And that's something i don't understand. After upgrades and replacements it's better, but still not 100% good. How is it possible, that 90% of a time car "thinks" it's RHD, and 10% of the time it "thinks" "hey, i'm across the pond, let's switch to LHD"? Doesn't make any sense to me. Especially, that still there are at least SOME, for which it works ok. If it was a software bug, it would affect everyone. It's either something wrong with GPS in some cars (i guess it can switch to LHD based on GPS data) every now and then, or it's radar and camera calibration. I'm not sure if visualization can be a proof, that calibration is ok.

Sure, i get that. I know about earlier software issues. Thing is, that by now it should be possible to book a car for firmware upgrades, or HW replacement if needed, otherwise car is not fit for purpose. Hence i'm asking: It's just as if some people preferred to moan about "**** poor coding", instead of getting it fixed. Did VAG mess this one up? Yes, a big time. But by now most issues been solved, and it's up to user to book it for upgrades.

So how come it's working for others, or at least some? Just wondering... Maybe your car been coded incorrectly in factory? Don't really know. Have you visited dealership at all about this issue? What did they say? Have you tried another dealership? If it was only about **** poor coding, everyone in UK would be affected, isn't that right?
