  2. "The rule of thumb for me before was service every year / 12,000 miles (19,000 km)." "I bought the car last June with 132,835K" "I am currently at 153,196k" = 20,361km Skoda website states OIl and inspection service every 10,000k after 3yr/30,000k https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-fixed-price Skoda dealer site https://www.winchestermotorgroup.co.uk/skoda/servicing-offers/skoda/ The garage that serviced it last suggested 12 month or around 14,000k? You are currently beyond your own rule of thumb and two Professional's advice. I have my car serviced every 12 months regardless of mileage a month before it's MOT to ensure a pass the following month. i don't do more than 6,000 miles a year
  3. In my experience with insurance companies they take what you say on the application as part of the conditions of the policy so i would be wary of putting "in my garage". What if you had it stolen off the drive because you didn't on that particular night?
  4. Parked on a drive instead of a Garage to some companies is deemed safer because you cannot hit the garage going in and out? https://www.comparethemarket.com/car-insurance/content/overnight-parking/

  11. @Rooted it is not beyond a possibility that Hunt's announcement was made in a desperate attempt to Balance his budget the year he said it. Therefore a miraculous improvement in Govt finances may make it unnecessary and he can change his mind ahead of a GE in a subsequent budget.
  12. I suppose there is still a possibility that things could change running up to a general election?
  13. I mis-read the first one 🫢 From 1 April 2025, electric vehicles will need to pay for VED – road tax. Announced by the Government in the 2022 Autumn Budget, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt stated: “To make our motoring tax system fairer I’ve decided that electric vehicles will no longer be exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty (VED).” The changes are as follows: New zero-emission cars registered on or after 1 April 2025 will be liable to pay the lowest first-year rate of VED (which applies to vehicles with CO2 emissions 1 to 50g/km) currently £10 a year. From the second year of registration onwards, they will move to the standard rate, currently £180 a year Zero emission cars first registered between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2025 will also pay the standard rate The Expensive Car Supplement exemption for electric vehicles is due to end in 2025. New zero emission cars registered on or after 1 April 2025 will therefore be liable for the Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement currently applies to cars with a list price exceeding £40,000 for five years Zero and low emission cars first registered between 1 March 2001 and 30 March 2017 currently in Band A will move to the Band B rate, currently £20 a year Zero-emission vans will move to the rate for petrol and diesel light goods vehicles, currently £290 a year for most vans Zero-emission motorcycles and tricycles will move to the rate for the smallest engine size, currently £22 a year Rates for Alternative Fuel Vehicles and hybrids will also be equalised https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/electric-cars/running/electric-car-road-tax-guide-do-i-need-to-pay/

  15. Could be a tactical move to encourage private buyers to buy 2nd hand over new evs to boost the 2nd hand market?
  16. I think the success of the pcp deals so far has been a buoyant used car market. When that bubble bursts more people will fall victim of the car not being worth the GFV when trying to move on to their next deal because the only realistic option is to hand the car back and start again with a deposit to find. PCPs and 0% finance deals have contributed to the inflated new car prices by taking power from the consumer.
  17. I would rather buy a four year old car that i can afford and own it than "use" a new car for four years and end up with nothing.
  18. If you're thinking of a Corolla check out the Suzuki Swace
  19. There was no mention of removing the Expensive car supplement of £395 for the first six years, i assumed that would be added on. There are approx 33.6 m private cars on the road avge 6,000 miles at .053p
  20. For which vehicle? 5.3p a mile would only need 3,207 miles to get to £170 ?
  21. Probably be replaced by charging a fee per mile traveled, current speculation suggest 5.3p per mile https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/22813/pdf
