There a a lot of variations with dual clutch automatics, go on any manufacturers forums and search for "automatic" problems and you will find the same ones. It goes by many different names. Volkswagen has dubbed dual-clutch transmission cars DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox). Porsche calls it PDK (Porsche Doppel Kupplungs getriebe), Audi prefers S-Tronic. EcoShift, SpeedShift, and PowerShift have all been thrown into the pot (by Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, and Ford, respectively). Still, the various monikers all refer to the same thing: the dual-clutch transmission. Salesman have no interest in "problems" and service staff always say "that's rare" they only care about what happens under warranty. Once out of warranty are people still likely go to main dealers for repairs A DCT needs servicing. How often will probably depend as much upon how the car is driven as it does on mileage and time. A DCT is not an automatic, it is a manual gearbox with two clutches for alternate gears controlled by a computer to change the gear automatically . When looking to buy a second hand one i would be interested in trying to work out how the mileage and time relate as well as evidencing service done.

The number of failures in the DQ381 growing would make sense now because it was first used in 2017. More now out of warranty and also more likely not to be following a service schedule. With the mechatronic unit on this gearbox sharing the oil with the gearbox i am very surprised that 80,000km was ever thought of as suitable. 40,000 makes a lot more sense.

When cars had lead acid batteries and no battery management systems, you had to check that the plates were covered by removing half a dozen plugs along the top of the battery, the electrolyte inside could boil away because of constant unnecessary charging and you were able to replace it. AGM batteries are sealed if you leave it to it's own devices attached to an alternator it will potentially be overcharged, The battery management system is designed to prevent the overcharging, it also determines if the charge in the battery is enough to allow the stop/start to be activated. To save fuel the bms also monitors the demand of functions operative in the car and in periods of high demand will focus the output of the alternator into running them instead of charging the battery. Frequent short journeys with lights/heater blower and or air con on will prevent the battery from having time to charge up. If everyone is saying everything is testing out as ok i think the car just needs a good run. Next time the stop/start is not greyed out and is activated see if the cd player plays without the bongs

I too have never heard of the arm wearing out, although i have seen them snap in frost when the switch has been left in Auto or on when the vehicle is started up.

The confusion is the "R" on the mirror dial is for "right" not "reverse" and the handbook is for people who drive LHD cars.

Sounds like you inadvertently just changed the mirrors normal position for your memory setting. Did you: "With ignition on Put the car in reverse, set the mirror control knob to L and move the knob to dip the mirror how you want it. Put it into D then turn the mirror control to 0 and the mirror should return to its normal position. If you now store the seat position it’ll also store the dipped mirror position. Now if you leave the mirror knob in L it will dip when you put it into reverse, and return to normal once you start moving forward at more than about 10mph or a hundred metres or so. If you want it to go up to normal position whilst reversing, simply turn the knob to 0. Similarly if you don't want it to dip, leave it in 0 rather than L. I don't understand why Skoda changed the oil service interval up to 80,000 miles unless it was to increase the failure rate. other Manufacturers insist on 36,000/3 year at a minimum for a dsg if the gearbox and mechatronic units share the oil, Gearbox swaff and solenoids in mechatronic units don't mix well.. Losing odd or even gears is a sign of non functioning or sticking solenoids.

The Govt cannot manage without the fuel duty either. The Electricity companies cannot manage without the profits and increasing turnover annually either. Encouraging those who can to go for VTG will be a stop gap to meet generation need until they have their own Battery storage capability. The smart meter system will eventually be used to individually charge people when they use there energy most. Do people really think it was a coincidence that prices quadrupled when we changed the light bulbs to use 75% less energy?
