Update To Infotainment Version 1985 - Download Link and Guide
I think a factory reset isn't such a bad idea, it takes 10 minutes by the time you have logged back in and re-done the two key fobs routine to become Primary user gains but, after that, settings such as electric seat position etc download from the cloud - you may have to change Lauras voice from the default male voice setting.

Update of navigation maps
Seems to backup my experience with the maps from the portal. I was on 23.12 (from when I had a subscription last year) and haven’t been able to update, via USB, beyond that. I suspect what they make available on the portal for free runs behind, in terms of versions, compared to what’s available on paid for subscription. There may possibly be a new update on the portal available before year end.

Update To Infotainment Version 1985 - Download Link and Guide
As a point of reference, I have just done a 300 mile round trip and version 1985 was solid and stable on my Octavia. Obviously that doesn’t necessarily translate to another vehicle as other factors at play such as individual module firmware versions etc.

Update To Infotainment Version 1985 - Download Link and Guide
Read the guide below and watch the YouTube video which is extremely useful and shows you an update process in real time. Only perform this procedure if you are confident in doing so and it is at your own risk. Apparently, Skoda has stated this will be the last major software version update for the Skoda Octavia Mk4s, although I imagine the mid-Mk4 facelift models will get further updates. I applied the update to my Octavia Estate First Edition 2021 plate and all seems to have gone smoothly but it goes without saying manually update only if you are confident performing the procedure and it's at your own risk. FYI, I updated from version 1969. You will need an ExFat formatted USB-C type drive - oddly my Sandisk Micro SD Card with USB-C adapter wasn't detected by my Octavia so I switched to a 1TB USB-C Lacie hard drive I had lying around and that worked fine. You can tell if your drive is "compatible" and has mounted when you start the update process as, at one stage you will have to select either "USB1" or "USB2" - if a drive is mounted/detected one of these will be in bold. 1. Download the compressed package from one of the two links below: Octavia Infotainment Update Version 1985 - Google Drive https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZSh8xZ7iUQu9K1u4uwTGbHqtxFE7m0OFtV 2. Create a temporary folder on your PC or Tablet, for example, MU1985 3, Locate the downloaded compressed file package and then right-click on it or press and hold on it, so the menu appears and it should offer you the opportunity to Extract here or elsewhere, tell it to extract the files to the MU1985 folder and let it get on with it. When it has finished extracting the files you will have the following TWO folders (previously there has been a third file but not this time, just the two folders below): Data Meta 4, Copy the above two folders directly to the root of your ExFat formatted UB-C drive. These two folders need to be at the root / top level of the USB-C drive, not contained in any other folder and you don't want anything else on that drive THERE MUST BE NO OTHER FILES / FOLDERS THAN THIS. Once done you are ready to move to your car to start the update. 5, Insert your USB-C drive into one of the front USB ports and put your car in ignition mode, which you need to do to apply the update, just press the Start Stop button on its own, without depressing the Clutch / Brake which you would do if you were starting the engine I also switched off the climate control before proceeding although I imagine the Update process would disable its functioning anyway. At this point, you must have a full or very well-charged car battery so that the car doesn't shut down halfway through the process. The ignition needs to be ON, the Engine needs to be OFF (NOT RUNNING)! DO NOT START IT DURING THE PROCESS. 6. Hold the "Menu" button until the engineering menu appears. 7, Watch this video which essentially shows you in real-time the update process. It's in German but it's easy to follow and the video relates to software version 1941 but it's essentially the same process. https://youtu.be/4AsSbGd3caU Be warned, there are moments when the screen goes black, the system reboots and the CPU upgrade stage looks like it has frozen but it hasn't. Just be patient, let the system do its thing and you should get a successful update of your system. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST THE PROCESS BE STOPPED ONCE IT HAS STARTED OTHERWISE YOU'LL MORE THAN LIKELY NEED A NEW INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM. Notes. After it has finished updating the system, give it a couple of minutes to ensure that all is well and like it shows on video press resume an wait for about 90s or so and the system will restart just, like in the video. DO NOT START THE CAR UNTIL THE SYSTEM HAS RESTARTED After the update the built-in manual is unlikely to be available for about 48hrs, it does come back! You will more than likely receive another OTA update, it's OK to accept it. Ultimately if you are at all worried about doing it, take it to a VW Independent or Skoda dealer and ask them to do it for you.

NEW: software 1985
I have now sourced the 1985 update package and installed successfully. Everything seems fine but got a long journey tomorrow which will confirm its stability. I’ll happily share it FOC over the weekend on my cloud servers for members to download with a guide (basically the same guide notes for the 1969 update).

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
Might be a presumption on my part but is version 1985 only relevant for the facelift Octavia’s?

Skoda connect app down,,,?
Restarted and re-logged in and was still unavailable. However, just refreshed and looks to be back now. Possibly a short outage?

looks like it might be as I am getting the “Unavailable” message

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I would say that’s a pretty positive indication, I believe Skoda initially did replace Telematic units on earlier models but eventually developed a module firmware fix to solve issues. If the car software works glitch free then all well and good. Might be good to get the infotainment software up to 1941 or 1969 but, again, if you aren’t getting any issues then no hurry for that either.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I agree - they have put all this on board tech in their cars but seem to be playing catch up in terms of support and ensuring the installed systems are robust. It’s not like a mobile phone or tablet OS having a bug which is generally, at worse, irritating.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I have the 1.5TSI SEL Manual Estate - First Edition and really rate the car. No denying that Skoda dropped the ball, in terms of software, when they initially released the MK4 but, at this stage, the issues the Mk4’s initially suffered seem to have been resolved via software updates. To give some context, other car manufacturers also seem to struggle with the onboard software they have. End of day all of them are car manufacturers and not software developers.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I wouldn’t stress, reading the forum paints a disproportionately bleak picture. You might be totally fine, the previous owner may have diligently had some or all updates done. If you got a good deal and you do find that some software / firmware updates are ultimately required you can get them done and at least you know it can all be fixed through these updates. Whilst the forum may have spooked you at least you are informed. I find the car very sound, I get good mpg and drives very well and I like the tech that the Mk4 comes with. All-in-all it’s a great family, with dog, car.

The heat could be generated by the sun light, coming through the windscreen, and heating up the back of the infotainment screen leading to crashing of the system?

Dealer servicing and software update - AU
In the UK updates will be covered under the original manufacturer's warranty although, my guess, you likely would have to request it or say that the system was unstable to prompt them to do it. Skoda extended warranties, Skoda Approved Used car warranties tellingly do not cover any software/firmware updates which, given how tech-centric cars are nowadays, seems a pretty major omission.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
This is the problem, there are a whole host of different updates out there that will make these car's systems very stable and reliable but Skoda will only update components if you report a specific issue. It's a shame that you can't just take your Skoda to the dealership, they connect it to the diagnostic computer and it applies all the latest updates relevant to your vehicle. I have begrudgingly paid for the climatic control module to be updated as it never retained the Sync setting between journeys, I could have lived with it and, I guess, many owners don't even know that the system should remember the Sync setting between journeys. It's a bit rich that you then have to pay for it to get a proper working firmware version installed when the module had shoddy firmware out of the factory. Fortunately, I was just within the manufacturer's warranty to get the Telematics module firmware updated along with the Infotainment system. It's very telling that, outside of the original manufacturer's warranty, all other Skoda warranties, such as Skoda Approved Used, don't cover software.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
While that is meant to be the case my experience, and many others who have bought "Skoda Approved Used" cars have found that they don't bother and, if you ask, will tell you that everything is up-to-date or you will receive any updates OTA. That's what is good about these forums, get informed, and then you can specifically nail them down on the updates required.

See my response on this thread. If you can get the dealer to do the first three steps then good chance you will be good:

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
Just another perspective….. I have Octavia 1.5TSI Octavia Estate First Edition, so one of the early Mk4’s. When I got it a year ago the whole Infotainment system and connected modules made for a very unstable system. However, after updates to relevant modules and Infotainment system it is now rock solid - no hardware replacements were required. Literally gone from almost unusable to completely reliable.

Update of navigation maps
How long ago did you update your map to 23.12? I think the maps on the Skoda website changed around May or June of this year which might also give a clue.
