  1. Yes I'd imagine so, I ran the update to 1985 from 1896 following advice from a VAG software specialist. Seeing as 1900 comes after 1896 I'd have thought it would be good..?
  2. Couple of questions if you don't mind mate... Firstly, what's wrong with adapters? And secondly, why tilt the hood..?
  3. I was told by a VAG software specialist that you can apply the update with the engine running... Regardless, thanks for the info. I have the file, but as a new Octavia owner (less than a month) and currently not experiencing any issues whatsoever (touch wood) with the infotainment system, I'm quite reluctant to mess with it. If it ain't broken, don't fix it kind of thing....
  4. I take it that's the gear box oil you're talking about? If so, any chance you could point me towards this post? Thanks...
  5. Unreal! Looks like a pearlescent deep emerald green, very, very nice!
  6. I've D/L'd the zip packages for both from here (thanks very much for those!) but as I'm not experiencing issues thus far running 1896, I'm tempted just to leave it as it is. Although I might try and update the navigation which I grabbed from the update portal a couple of days ago, see what happens with that 😃
  7. Signed up for a free trial of Skoda Connect and D/L'd a copy of my digital certificate, made for interesting reading (see attached) Could it be the Octavia I've bought has already had it's telematics done and unit replaced? 🤔
  8. Did you earth it on the engine block or the battery terminal itself in the end? Also, did you run the update with your bonnet open?
  9. County Durham lad myself. Spent a little bit of time as a kid on the roller coaster etc 🤣
  10. Only noticed mine take the steering once on a tight curve, it said something or other about it on the display, but there are lots of those types of curves where I live and it's never done it again since. Maybe I was just a bit quick through that one
  11. Lovely looking motor. Whereabouts in Tyneside you from mate? And welcome btw 😊
  12. It applied the brakes but it also assisted me through the turn, I felt it take the steering wheel...
  13. I've only just picked up my 2020 Octavia on Sunday, and have a question regards lane assist... The bit on the digital display, where it displays the lane, sometimes there's a car in the lane on my display and other times there's not. Does that represent a car ahead or something? Another thing is on the way home with my car on its first ride, turn assist or something kicked in on a tight turn, but hasn't since. Does that only work in certain circumstances? Apologies if the answers to these seem obvious, just trying to get to grips with all of the tech, my previous car to this was a 2014 reg so a lot of it is brand new to me...
  14. The updates were sitting waiting when I first checked the system so I'd say the previous owner must have left them well alone, and for now that's exactly what I intent to do too.
  15. Picked the car up today, took it for a good ride out, it's a lovely drive! No noticeable software glitches (thank goodness!) however I did note that I'm running software version 1896, and from what I've read on here the maps database looks way out of date (19.6 or something like that) There are a couple of updates ready to install, but not sure I'm going to bother, at least not just yet anyway! Does anyone know if I can check what the updates are without committing to installing them?
  16. In that case I'd contact the dealer immediately if I was you. Someone more mechanically minded than me might be able to offer better advice, as I say I've only ever known that happen on automatic vehicles, when you reverse quite rapidly then quickly change the gear into drive without stopping or at least letting your revs settle down
  17. I have known this problem in auto's, when changing too quickly from one gear to another, but never heard of it in manual before. Are you rapidly changing gear by chance, whilst still at a decent rate of revs?
  18. Another reason I chose the Octavia is because I had family visiting from abroad this past summer, 2 adults, 2 (almost) teenagers and a month's worth of luggage which they hauled all around the UK in a hired one which seemed a cracking car. I had a ride out in it too a couple of times and really liked it, as did my Brother-in-law who put a good couple of thousand miles on it during that time.
  19. Not buying through a dealer though, that's the thing. All I know is the car is just under 4 years old, has just over 29k miles and only 1 previous owner. The price I paid seemed quite good until I started to read these forums, if only I'd done so before committing...
  20. Thanks for the reply. I'd figured that must be the case regarding the majority of cars being fine, otherwise surely skoda would have HAD to do something about these issues.
  21. Yeah I saw that earlier, thanks for that. I did actually book mark it as a go to guide should I encounter any issues. Just not happy at the thought that after splashing out on the car initially, I could then be soon shelling out again to have it put right? The fact that my nearest dealer is located over 80 miles away doesn't help matters much, would never have expected to need to take a car back to a dealer at this stage in its life tbh. Any idea how much those processes combined would set me back?
  22. I'm meant to be picking up a 2020 Octavia this weekend, tbh I wish I'd encountered this thread before I decided to pull the trigger on it. I still have a cooling off period mind you where I could cancel for a full refund, and I'm sorely tempted thinking of the prospect of going through all this. You think you could change my mind?
  23. This is a handy tip for car owners in general IMO, no matter what the make or model, giving your car a few seconds for the components to ready themselves rather than firing straight up from turning the ignition on is something I've done on all my vehicles for a little while now. Once helped me fix an issue I was having with an o2 sensor with a heated circuit, if I fired the engine up too quickly the circuit would throw up a sensor error, by waiting after turning ignition on I got around this
