  1. All the connects2 is, is a CD changer emulator, it fools your HU into thinking its a genuine changer, so the wiring should be identical too. Please someone correct me if Im wrong. Technically according to the diagram (thanks to stu's site) The aux pins (Aux In L, Aux In R, Aux Grd) are separate to the changer pins, but on the same plug. Presumably on the connects2 plug, these pins arent used/blank. If you can get the VW wiring kit (000-979-010) you should be able to insert the 3 pins into the plug and solder them back to the aux in wires. Im having to do a similar job to mine on wednesday, I only need 1 wire but have to buy 5 so might have some spares for you if you like? As long as both the head unit supports both a CDC and the aux in (do you use seperate buttons to select CDC and Aux?) and that the connects 2 doesnt mind (it shouldnt, but you never know) Hope This Helps
  2. And theyve been doing well for a couple of years now. Werent all 3 main models in Top Gears top ten of 100 in 05 or 06? Not new news I know, but it shows that Skodas have been good for a few years now. And Skoda being Top Gear Manufacturer of the year in 07, something like that anyway. You will still get people that think 'pah its a Skoda. Another name for a soft top Skoda? a skip, etc.' I was one, until the original octavia VRS came out. I dont mind tho, people underestimate them. EDIT: Heres a few more awards/accolades http://www.autoviewpoint.com/content/category_details/929/Skoda/
  3. loving those chunky hot rod wheels on those marinas lol
  4. Or they have taste and we all dont lol If youve got the money to spend on that then you probably only associate with others who also think its tasteful anyway:rolleyes:
  5. When were skint things always seem to go, washing machine, cooker, big car bill, etc. If it looks more than likely shes going to end up redundant, cancel the holiday, cut your loses, tighten belts, etc. The last thing you want is to get in debt/more debt paying for the unnecessary luxuries. If she gets anything in the way of redundancy, dont be tempted to use it on the holiday unless she gets another job, you never know if youll need any emergency savings, if you can live day-to-day without dipping into all the better. If your feeling brave and SWMBO really wants the holiday, tell her to start posting CVs to every company in the yellow pages. In a nice way of course.
  6. I remembered one when I was a wee-un in my uncles austin princess, around Beccles area on a single carriageway doing about 60, saw a car and caravan coming towards us. About 20 metres before we passed each other someone in a fiesta pulled out to overtake the caravan there was a brief moment before he realised we were coming and he swerved back in, looked around when passed and saw the fiesta swerving side to side trying to gain control lol.
  7. I saw some black ones on ebay a week or so ago
  8. Some of the things they have are hilarious, a bar of pressure lol
  9. Being a passenger in an old BMW going too fast over a small single lane humpback bridge not realising till we hit the apex that there was another car coming up the other side. More recently, about a month ago coming up to one of the roundabouts at Cheshire Oaks, checked my mirror and saw a silver focus in the distance in the right hand lane, pulled into the right hand lane to turn right checked my mirror again to start slowing down and saw the focus catching up to me waaaay too fast (I was doing 40mph and its a 40mph road), then thick tyre smoke, him sliding half across the next lane (this was during rush hour too) If he ended up more than 2 inches from hitting me I would have been surprised, if it had been seconds earlier I wouldnt be here now. I barely had enough time to grip the steering wheel and shout 'hold on' to my wife and son. Its at times like these you think about NCAP tests. lol. It has reaffirmed my thoughts that the world is now full of too many idiot drivers. :(
  10. You can retract your bid, this should tell you all you need to know. Can I retract or cancel my bid? I remember putting a bid on and then realised I hadnt put the decimal point in. lol
  11. Personally I would only go for fm modulation if there was no other option i.e. a head unit with no aux or cdc connections. Each to their own tho
  12. I think that depends on personal preference, a few choices you have are either, windscreen sucker type, vent holder, an angled plate coming out from the HU and one that will sit in the cup holder. I dont have one as mine is wired into the little dash cubby hole so its nice and hidden away
  13. 30 quid is not bad at all, but just remember that with the AUX input there is no Ipod controls from the HU, the control will only be from Ipod. It also will not charge from that connection either
  14. Dension: Ipod (100 or 300) Ipod & Aux (300 only) Dension: Compatibility Database Connects2: Aux (Look for the stream adapter) Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists Connects2: Ipod (Again, look for the stream adapter) Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists Xcarlink: Ipod Search results*::*XCarLink Will need to verify which Xcarlink will work with the stream as it doesnt state on site The functionality of each may vary, some limit the songs you can access (making the 120GB neither here nor there really) I went through the same list, with a few dodgy looking ones on ebay too, but the only one that seemed to fit my 'unlimited tracks' needs was the Dension Gateway, hence I got one lol. The only downside to the gateway is the odd way of controlling it so you that you CAN have technically unlimited tracks. If you need any info about the gateway let me know, Ill help as best I can. Hope this helps
  15. The symphony tape seems the same as the symphony CD player (apart from the obvious) To use your SE phone with it you will need an emulator/adapter with an audio line input, not an ipod input on its own. Depending on which one you go for, it will either be a 2xphono connector or a 3.5mm jack connector. You will also need the SE phone to 3.5mm adapter which comes with most phones. The symphony seems compatible with the Dension 300 (the one I use) which has Ipod, USB and 3.5mm line-in and has expandable features (keeping your changer, adding bluetooth, etc). The connects2 and XCarlink also support the symphony, but I cant say if they are IPod only or not. There are plenty of threads about both on here. Whichever you choose, you wont have control from the HU, you will only have control from your phone. Hope this helps
  16. Two things worth considering first. You may have to consider that you may have wired it up correctly but your HU may be damaged as well. Water is not a great conductor of electricity but it will conduct it and will fry delicate electronics nicely. Maybe a voltage was shorted along a data line, enough to damage the CDC circuits in the HU, but not fry it completely, that sort of thing. or The cabling may have been damaged or corroded at the changer end so your not getting the proper connection to the changer. Just somethings worth considering. Not familiar with the symphony myself, but the following may help.. a bit generic, but this might help if you can ID which one it is. The figures on tfis page show the interfase - and fly - lead cable of the 22RC047 (Skoda Symphony is listed as one of the ones that can make use of these diagrams) or possibly this http://kuniseins.ku.funpic.de/CdcEmu/Graphics/CDCEmuWiring_V12_VW.jpg (Wiring Diagram for the Symphony Head to CDC Emulator, so in theory should be the same wiring to the changer itself) VAG CD Changer Simulator (CDC Emulator) and Remote Control for Archos Jukebox (Main page with connectors, etc on) simulator vag cd changer emulator volkswagen gamma beta aux in IPOD MP3 (Has lots of pin configurations, CD changer wiring at the bottom) Personally tho I would consider either getting a new wiring harness and mount the changer in the glove box or under the seat, or getting a mp3 adapter, put all your dads tracks on it, and hide it away in the glove box. It still acts like a CDC, but without the hassle of changing discs. (If there is one to support the symphony that is, I would be surprised if there wasnt) The Dension Gateway 100 & 300 support the symphony. Looks like the XCarlink and Connects2 support the symphony as well. Hope this helps
  17. You might have to take it out and have a look at the sticker on the back. Is it a factory fitted one or aftermarket?
  18. Octy1 or Octy2? Head Unit? Changer model no?
  19. Sorry, I meant where Octavia cars are sold not just cars in general , but I thought there was a couple more european countries with RHD. I knew RHD was less than LHD, just didnt realise the gap
  20. Dont the xenons have self levelling or something? maybe its because of that
  21. It doesnt look like you have to get rid of your HU if you dont want to, the manual states you can use your existing HU with an adapter for auxillary audio in (KCM-122B) the only downside to this is that its audio only, so no ipod control from HU, but its a direct wired audio input (standard 2xphono or 3.5mm jack), so no interference like an fm transmitter. You may be able to get control via an mbus adapter & emulator so your HU thinks your ipod is a cd changer (The Dension Ice>Link Plus seems like it may work) this would give you cd changer controls but will be more expensive. And depending on the emulator and HU the amount of tracks accessible on your ipod may be limited. (Some, not all, only allow a max of 99 tracks or multiples of 99 depending on how many discs it supports e.g. 6 discs of 99 tracks) Manual: http://www.alpine.com.au/downloads/web_owners_manuals/cd_owners_manuals/CDM-7856R.pdf (Page 7 ) Plain Audio Input: KCM-122B, Consumer Electronics, Cars, Parts Vehicles items at low prices on eBay.co.uk Icelink (CD Changer Emulator): Alpine M-Bus Dension ice>Link Plus Adapter | Dension ice>Link Plus iPod Car Kit | iPod Car Kit Direct (Check the compatability tab) But before you buy anything double check with seller that it is compatible with your system. It will cover you if it doesnt work (Theres no reason it shouldnt) And shop around for an ice>link, you might get it a lot cheaper.. Maybe even on Briskoda Hope this helps
