  1. Gadgetman cheers mate-go go gadget advice:thumbup:
  2. I know us yorkshire folk have a (undeserved) reputation for being tight but its not usually for being tight with our words. This could be a first..... a quiet Yorkshireman:D
  3. Usually get between 33-37mpg on an average week which is a mix of motorway and fast a road on commute and loads of short trips during the day for work. this on a standard car and "normal" petrol but i often drive lke a snail at 65mph on the motorway commute as it dont make loads of difference being a relatively short trip (18miles all in). I reccently did devon to wales to manchester and got 38.8mpg despite going faster than normal.....no kids on return leg so cruising at 80 with the odd blast to 90mph. Dont think marmite burners worth the extra unless you doing 20,000 plus miles. Also dont get the acceleration:D They also smell:rofl:
  4. i have my octavia on variable servicing so not due until just under 40,000 as it had done just shy of 20,000 when i bought it. I suggested to the dealer that i have it serviced anyway at yearly/10,000mile intervals. His reply was that i would be welcome to do so but would be wasting my money as the car shouldnt need it. He said that the quality of longlife oil helped to prolong the srvice intervals. I have now done over 10,000 miles in 8 months and i am fighting the urge to get it serviced as have always got my cars serviced every 10,000/12month which ever comes first. Dont think it can harm to do so but dont want to be handing over money needlessly. Anyone else on variable who services their car at earlier intervals?
  5. Steve, do you feel like a stuck record and a Vred paid employee:rofl: Im ordering 2 Vreds from Camskill tomorrow....local ATS will fit em for £15 a corner, 5 mins from the office so that will do for me:thumbup: Dan
  6. Cheers to all you guys for the advice you may have saved me quite a few squids:thumbup::thumbup: Dan
  7. Yep Wardy that would be useful....if you still have em:thumbup: Seems a few of you rate em. Dan
  8. wow thats well cheap compared to the £150 plus i been looking at for contis an the like. are they any good or just good cos they cheap? Dan
  9. Im looking to buy 2 new rears for the vrs soon-any ideas/advice welcome. I beleive conti's are standard but quick to wear out. Mine fitted with Dunlops at the moment ta Dan
  10. Claybank seem to have had a mixed response.....i bought my vrs 7 months ago and so far all has been well. The salesman (Mohamed) was friendly and polite and i went back a few times testing different cars-he didn't pester me, just let me do it at my pace:thumbup: After i bought the car it had to go back in to have the rear elec window fixed which i didnt even know about until i tried it a couple of weeks after i bought it and before i could ring them, they rang me! It was fixed without fuss as it should be under warranty. I have taken it in twice to check oil consumtion and it was thouroughly checked over-i was told there was no problem in me bringing it in if i was unsure and that this was the best and safest thing to do. I was also told that although they found nothing wron with it, if i was worried, to take it in and they would check it again. Have had no probs with them so far and Mo still gives me a wave when i beep as i pass on the way to work:thumbup:
  11. The more driving i do on the motorway-every day at the moment, the more it seems its in reverse, ie the 3rd lane is the one everyone returns to and the left lane is the one that is used least. The middle lane just gets used by k*n*o*b*h*e*a*d*s to sit and overtake/undertake. the amount of people i see totaly oblivious to whats coming up behind but refusing to move to lane 1. I do what has already been suggested (if its safe) and do the exagerated indicate move to right lane then move back over. Does anyone take any notice.....do they fffffff fluff.Mostlt too busy on the phone or doing hair/make up:mad:
  12. Id be very couteous to a lorry in drag mode:D highway code or not!
  13. cheers for that info mikey vrs. seeing as you seem to know what you are talking about, isnt it less likely for discs to be warped/faulty and much more likely that the pads just need changing? Reason i ask is i often hear "new discs and pads" from people having services.....reason some mechanics can screw people over is that they are banking joe public (me included) not having knowledge about cars. Its the same with roofers, plumbers, sparks, accountanats, in fact anyone who stands to make money from doing a job for cash. Thats not to say all out to screw you and makes good tradesmen worth their weight in gold....if you know a good one you stick with em.
  14. I just let em go most of the time whatever they are driving. They are clearly more impatient than me if in the right hand lane at the lights. If someone pulls up next to you in the right hand lane at the lights they must know that they have to outdrag you, rely on your courtesy in letting them pass or moving back into the flow at some point and unless they have a faster car than you then they are not in full control of the situation. If the boots on the other foot and im in the right i will back of if they are pushing it, even if i think my cars faster....just cant be a*r*s*e*d
  15. it was like the swarm had descended!
  16. colin-theres no getting away from some of the bottlenecks on that drive-coming out of Glossop onto m67 aint pretty:mad: not sure bout the flat thing but will keep ears open-check out south manchester reporter or Manchester Evening News
  17. [Dan... 2 keywords whilst you think what to get me: BIG EXPENSIVE Enjoy MoTD ...which to a geek would be: /etc/motd HTH ? I was thinking somthing to do with football............sweet FA:rofl: HTH? wots that then?
  18. Cheers for taking the time guys....im going to watch MOTD, drink beer and think of what to get you and Simbo for xmas:rofl:
  19. Now im just annoyed-moved em from the testing area, pasted em into the photography section.......they should still be there?????? I have a good solution.....beer:D
  20. Pat-did you click on them and get to Photobucket???
  21. Cheers Pat:thumbup: They should be in the photography section? I wish i could say i knew what i was doing to move em:rofl:
  22. Not been laughed at yet and have had a few admiring glances, even from those in BMW's. On friday i had the dubious honour of a compliment on the vrs. I say dubious as i was sitting in a car park when a "sporty" vectra swung about and pulled alongside, whereby the scally passenger leaned out of his window and shouted "f e c k i n rapid mate!" before his scally driver mate screeched off out of the car park, basshunter blarring out of the speakers! Maybe he was talking about his mates car:rolleyes: Who cares what people think about the car you drive? If you are fussed...dont buy one you think people will laugh at. Its called keeping up with the Jones's....... or summat
  23. Cheers pal:thumbup: As for a pressie, was thinking somthing along the lines of a thumping win for the mighty Bantams next week, I will have a word with the gaffer....but then you've probably got more chance of getting a real pressie from me:D
