  1. I don't normally venture into this forum, but feel the need now. I have been following the hubnut channel for a while now, Some of you classic Skoda owners may already be aware that the hubnut youtube channel owner has recently purchased a red Favorit estate. You can watch his channel here. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfxlBQnvNXX6o-2KbCMszWQ All his videos are worth a watch, so check the channel out. Some of his Favorit videos as a taster.
  2. You cannot run the nav without another audio source, however if you turn down the volume to zero with the radio playing that will mute the radio audio and you will still get navigation audio. The nav and audio source audio are separately set.
  3. Hi all, I do not post here much anymore but still read the forums. I've been meaning to post this for a while, a garage on my commute between Blandford and Dorchester has a MK1 Octy vRS parked on the side of the workshop. It does not seem to be for sale, but is declared SORN and has no current MOT. It is s a Red example with reg. M18 VRS, for some reason the registration number rings a bell, I wonder if it is or was a fellow members car. i am guessing a well established member may be needed to comment given that it is a very early example registered in July 2001.
  4. Know what you mean, but I was unemployed due to redundancy from May to the end of August. I now have a temporary job, doing a non IT role on almost half the old salary. A role which is due to end just before christmas, ironically this temporary role is with the same organisation that made me redundant. She has got to go, and if needs must I will put it through an auction once I have removed the AMI and TV tuner to sell those separately.
  5. Regretfully for sale due to job related issues is my 2004 Audi A8 3.7 Quattro in Silver, this is the D3 second generation. I have owned this car for 5 years, bought it on 128K miles and now has 166K miles. During the last few years it has not had much use, indeed as of writing this it has covered less than 1K miles since the middle of July. The Audi is one of two cars I own, and it will be sad to see it go, but go it must. Insuring, taxing a second car in my current situation is not good. 3.7 litre, V8 Normally aspirated engine. 166K miles (rising as still in use) MOT until 1st August 2019 This is proper torsion diff, full time 4x4, not the later Haldex based 4x4. Silver metallic Grey leather interior. Satnav ( you can still get current DVDs for this) Six disc CD changer Optional extras: Comfort seats Keyless entry and go Radar adaptive cruise control, with widescreen driver information display GSM carphone with full hands free and separate handset Solar sunroof Quad Zone climate control Bose sound system Electric boot open and close (the close button needs to be replaced but it opens perfectly). Retrofitted Audi AMI module for plugging in USB sticks, HDDs and aux in devices (supplied with USB adapter cable) Audi DVB-T hybrid TV tuner so you can watch Freeview TV, tuner also has 2x AV inputs (not currently connected) The ABS ECU developed a fault internally, this has been repaired professionally by an ECU specialist and there have been no issues since. I replaced the coolant bottle several years ago, but the bolts had to be cut out, so the new one is secure but not not retained correctly. There were a number of issues on the last MOT, one exhaust related which has been fixed. The other two were brake related but are due to me living on a farm (dirty brake lines) and lack of use of the car and my mechanic says they are nothing to worry about. The whole body is Audi space frame and made of Aluminium so there are zero rust issues to worry about. Moving on, The car is due a service which I cannot afford due to the work situation. The cambelt is also due on age (but not mileage) it was change 4.5 years ago along with all the tensioners and has covered approx 35K on this belt. The water pump was not changed with the belt as one bolt was seized in the block and the original pump was and is still working perfectly. The wheels need a refurb as the polished alloy is corroding. The interior is in VG+ condition, considering it is 14 years old. Hardly anyone has sat in the back during my ownership. The buyer will get a lot of car for the money, it drives perfectly. £2800 is the price, reasonable offers will be considered. There are some pictures in my owners thread on this forum
  6. Given the age of this post, I would be very surprised if there is anything remaining of this car. The OP has not visited Briskoda since towards the end of 2017 so I am closing this thread.
  7. Sorry for not updating this, but I have bigger issues to worry about (not with the car) Monday just gone the A8 passed it's MOT for another year, so it now expires on 1st August 2019, this highlighted several issues and some have already been fixed. She now has 165K miles on the clock and i have owned her for coming up to five years, however she now needs Service Cambelt I am currently unemployed and struggling along, so I may have to sell the Audi as she is to get some money so I do not find myself homeless.
  8. Yes, does sound like the LED behind the speedo has failed. Unless you are competent with a soldering iron and working with surface mount LEDs then it maybe best left to someone who is, or a business that specialise in fixing clusters. BBA-Reman maybe able to fix this, you send them the cluster but you'll not be able to even start the car until you get the cluster back.
  9. I am guessing the non canton setup may have speakers behind those grills, same door card used for whole range.
  10. From what I understand the tiptronic box has no defined service interval and is designated as "sealed for life", only the DSG has a 40K defined oil change interval. However this is the problem, there is no definition of the word "Life", it could be 10 years, 20 years, 100K miles etc. At 10 years old it maybe worth asking an independent specialist their thoughts, as it maybe worth getting the gearbox oil and filter changed as a precautionary measure. There is no point asking a dealer as all you get is the sealed for life comment.
  11. Yes the whole cluster needs replacing, the front facia is plastic welded onto the main frame. The new cluster must be coded to the car, so it's a dealer only job. The parts can be separated, but a dealer will not be able to obtain just a replacement perspex piece as the cluster is listed as a whole on the parts system.
  12. Talking Maplin again, In Stevenage Maplin recently closed the store on a good retail complex, with good parking. The old store was great, it had a parts counter and you could buy almost anything there and then and it was in stock, even obscure items. They opened a new store about 300 yards from the old one, however this new store had changed the company focus. Gone was the parts counter, replaced by a small selection of parts which you could pick from a dozen drawers at the back of the store. The store sold a fraction of the products available at the old one, despite being externally a similar size. What took up some of this space, a stall from a mobile repair business Maplin had recently gone into partnership with, iSmash. Parking for the new complex they moved to is woefully under provided considering what else is on the park, so you can never park there and have to walk across a busy road and up steep stairs to get to the store. Given the proliferation of mobile repair businesses within less than 1/2 mile with easy parking it was another nail in the coffin. After they moved, I never went in as they never had anything I couldn't get online next day and could do without the parking hassle.
  13. If you are buying from a main dealer you can be sure the fix will have been applied.
  14. Search in the usual places, we do not allow links to what is essentially copyright material on the forum.
  15. See the previous post by redboy, you could be looking at significantly more than £200 if you ignore it and it gets picked up.
  16. Dont bother cleaning the pickup, replacement is far better as you'll never clean the old one fully. New one is not that expensive when compared to replacement turbos. Maybe also be worth investigating the condition of the oil pump, although not sure bow easy that is to get to on the PD engine.
  17. Sounds like normal behaviour. If your car has climate control there should be a setting that when enabled the car will switch itself between recirc and normal air flow based on sensors detecting pollution in the air. Recirc should only ever be used for short periods of time otherwise the interior air becomes stale with an increasing carbon dioxide level. To prevent the buildup of stale air, the system disables itself after several minutes as a safety feature and this behaviour cannot be altered.
  18. Do the Sportline headlights come with AFS? AFS constantly alters the headlight beam pattern based on road speed and if the windscreen wipers are operating. I always found the Superb headlights very good, maybe the headlights just need correct alignment.
  19. I bet there is nothing wrong with the glow plugs, slow startup at this time of year is pretty common. The battery is not capable of delivering the same CCA in cold temperatures, add in the thicker oil due to lower temp and the battery has one heck of a job to do. Both my old Superb MK2 and old Octavia MK2 (Both 2.0 TDi) used to take ages to warm up in the winter, 20 minutes of town driving was about the norm before I got anywhere near 90 on the temp gauge. I would not bother changing anything, your car sounds pretty normal in its cold weather behaviour.
  20. Have you updated the firmware of your headunit, check here to see if an update is available. http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-gb Updates include compatibility fixes for various mobile devices.
  21. Having different size tyres front/rear is not recommended, Your new front and rear tyre sizes have different rolling circumference and may cause the ABS to misbehave due to the rotational difference in speed between the front and rear axles. However the difference is only small, so you may get away with it. I like the wheels, but think they could do with being bigger.
  22. The battery box should be available from your local dealer, although I am not sure of the part number. From what I remember my old MK2 2005 pre facelift had the battery box.
  23. Hey Rob, I've been out of the loop for a while, last time I dropped by here rusty was still off the road. It's great to see you have persevered and Rusty is roaming in the wild again.
  24. It does not take a lot of petrol to make a strong petrol smell. I had a tiny leak on my previous car, and the smell was really strong. The cause was the smallest of leaks, and the fuel was never really visible as it evaporated down before it became visible. The cause needs investigating sooner rather than later, the fumes are flammable and even more so if the leak is in a confined space.
  25. Hi all, Been quiet lately, but now I've had the Audi for 4 years, yes that's 4 years its time for an update. Not a lot has changed, the A8 went through it's MOT in July 2017 with no advisories on 159K miles. Thanks to Jason for polishing the headlights, much improved the light output as they had gone cloudy. Now in mid November 2017 she is on 161K miles and is hardly used these days. I've done just 600 miles in the last two months, with 500 or so of those being done in a single weekend. 2018 is a big expenditure year for the A8, so I may well sell before we get to that point. She needs a major service with brake fluid change and yet another cambelt change which is due on time and not mileage as I've only done 30K in 4 years. The bill which is due in mid 2018 is likely to be in excess of £1K, £800 if that is the cambelt and tensioner replacement. Apart from that she is still the same, some more delamination of the wheels lacquer as expected but other than that no change.
