  1. The reliability problems with the 1.4TSI were the earlier twin charger version- the 1.4TSi fitted to the Octavia 3 is the new EA211 engine which does not have those problems. Owners of the later 1.5TSi have complained on here about 'kangarooing' problems that have affected them. I drove a 14.TSi estate for 5 years and was very happy with it's economy and performance, having driven to the south of France it made a good relaxed motorway cruiser.
  2. Will it still be open to people living in a shared ownership i.e. part owned, part rented property?
  3. The other plate prefix to be aware of is G - my previous Octavia 3 had a GC prefix and has been owned by one of the well known car rental companies based in Kent and sold as a 1 year old.
  4. Can you please confirm that you have a TDI vRS? (and maybe update your profile...) The TDI vRS has a cambelt but the TSI vRS has a timing chain.
  5. I had the problem you describe on my previous Audi RS4, the cause was the stepper motor driving the heat distribution flap on the passenger side - the motor was OK but the mechanism had moulding flashes which causes the flap to jam, easily cured with a fine file.
  6. Even with a battery of the same type and capacity, you SHOULD change the battery serial number so the BMS knows a new battery is fitted and immediately does a recalibration - if you don't do this the BMS will assume the old battery is still fitted and some power saving measures (turning off some loads because it thinks the battery is weak) can still happen for some time.
  7. In my experience the two phrases "traffic planners" and "common sense" have no connection at all. In Trowbridge they are going to be closing one of the major entry roads for a week in January (and causing congestion for a further 9 weeks) to widen cycle lanes that I have never seen used by a single cycle - I gather this is to spend a grant given to them by the UK Government to "improve active travel".
  8. If I had a pound for every time a dealer has emailed me, told me, messaged me, WHY that I need to replace the timing belt when the car I drove had a timing chain I wouldn't need to enter the Omaze draw for the £3m house in the Lake District (slight exaggeration but you get my drift!). My experience is that dealer car knowledge can be written on a small Post-It note using a very large marker pen... I echo the advice to find a good local independent specialist.
  9. I never locked the SD card after updating the maps on my MIB1 Amundsen, always worked in the car with the slider in the unlocked position?
  10. No, if no times are displayed then the bus lane is a bus lane 24/7/365 - even if that makes no sense at all.
  11. And the grade we used when I worked for a company in the potable water industry.
  12. As you can see from my signature I no longer have access to the Octavia 3, so I'll have to let current owners comment ...
  13. Only way I know is to replace the filter.
  14. Seen this on some Audis - the rear demister is also used as an aerial and there is a filter that separates the radio signal from the demister power, when this fails the radio signal is lost when the rear demister is turned on as you describe.
  15. According to this you need A4 stainless bolts to be equivalent to 8.8
  16. Might be better asking in the Octavia 4 forum where owners mostly post?
  17. It was in 2017 when I needed one wheel refurbed so my memory might be a bit off, but IIRC they charged me £80.
  18. I used these guys at Woolston when I needed an alloy powder coated after a dealer did a nasty respray http://www.wheelsmartuk.co.uk/
  19. I tried the Audi throttle coding on my 1.4 TSI Octavia III and had exactly the same fault codes, to me it seemed that the changed ECU coding made it look for different CAN messages from the other modules such as ABS so I reverted back to the standard coding.
  20. BTW those are not radar they are ultrasonic sensors. The radar (when fitted) is for ACC and Front Assist and is located in the centre of the front bumper area,
  21. ... which is why I stopped watching F1 for many years - Ferrari having different rules to all other teams and Michael Schumacher not being penalised for major driving misdemeanours just became too much for me to stomach. Now it seems the rules are different for Red Bull and Verstappen - deja vu???
  22. Have you checked whether the battery terminal connections have been tightened correctly after the battery was changed?
  23. On the Octavia the 1.4 TSI never had ACT, it was introduced first on other models.
  24. Every 5 years according to Skoda UK, "lifetime" according to VW in the SSP for the EA211 engine, values in between those according to other makes & importers - pay your money, make your choice.
  25. But important semantics that have confused at least one member - ords.
