  1. Manufacturers have to meet strict corporate average emissions and fuel consumption targets or face large fines so for them substance is more important than style.
  2. PetrolDave replied to Monkhai's topic in The Technology Shed
Contention ratio is the term used to for the number of users that are currently sharing data capacity. If you have a lower contention ratio you will get faster broadband. For example, a contention ratio of 75:1 means that 75 broadband users are currently sharing the same bandwidth. What is contention ratio?
  3. But with newer vehicles eventually going to all EVs the market for petrol & diesel will virtually disappear so filling stations as we know them will also disappear meaning that owners of classic vehicles will need to find some other place to purchase fossil fuels - probably at a much higher price. To me the crazy thing is we'll still be needing lubricants for EVs (grease and lubricating oil for bearings etc.) so we'll likely still be digging up fossil fuels which means the refineries will have to find something to do with the then unwanted fractions that are currently sold as petrol, diesel, heating oil etc. I know they can adjust the cracking process to reduce those fractions, but they can't eliminate them totally - so will those fractions then just be flared off, causing something new for the eco-warriors to complain about?
  4. Sounds like you might need something like this USB to 12V Step-Up Converter
  5. Petrol & diesel prices at the independent garage near where I leave are typically 9p per litre more than the supermarkets in both of the nearest towns, so anyone who shops/works in those towns buys fuel there not locally.
  6. As a start 5E0 = Octavia 3. The rest of the part number tells what it is and version, there are experts on here such as @SashaGraceand @pab567who can answer what infotainment systems and versions that will work with - wait for them to come along and you'll get the answers you need.
  7. I would say it is a very safe bet that the "normal" wing mirrors won't have the motors needed to fold them.
  8. First thing to check is that the DAB antenna lead is securely plugged into the main unit - which is the one in the glovebox (the screen in the centre console is just a screen).
  9. Welcome, and ask away - preferably in the Octavia III forum where other owners of the same Octavia spend most of their time.
  10. Whoever at SEAT answered the question doesn't have a clue - yes EVs and hybrids use Lithium Ion batteries (for the propulsion batteries) but ICE and hybrids use Lead acid batteries (for the non-propulsion batteries).
  11. Just because it can be done on an 8K Audi A4 doesn't mean it can be done on a Skoda Octavia - the Audi has MMI but the Octavia has MIB infotainment systems.
  12. I don't have them as I'm not the person who posted the original picture.
  13. ... available in both shiny and matt finishes.
  14. Set everything else in Individual as they would be in Sport mode, then you have Sport mode but without the excessive ACC acceleration
  15. Not if your income is low (like most farm workers) and you can't get finance - then you're stuck with what you have.
  16. ... but many more don't, especially those who just see a car as a 'box' that gets them from A to B. It's easy to forget that car forum members have far more interest in, and knowledge of, cars than the majority of Joe/Joanne Public.
  17. Seriously think about whether the sort of miles you drive will be suitable for a diesel with DPF - if you don't regularly do longish drives then a petrol may be a better choice.
  18. Not everyone will be smart enough to hypermile, I can see the breakdown companies getting many more callouts - not for "I've run out of petrol/diesel" but for "The battery is flat on my EV" - it will be interesting to see whether they equip their vans with a universal boost charger pack (if such a thing exists) or simply tow the EV to the nearest charging station?
  19. That's not about whether i'st a FL model or not; it's because you have a 1.5 - on the 1.4 and 1.5 the water pump is on the opposite end of the engine to the timing belt but most people on here think of the 2.0 engine where the water pump is on the same end of the engine as the timing belt.
  20. That's fine where filling stations are being built, but round here independent filling stations are closing because of price pressure from the supermarkets in main towns (i.e. 15 miles away for the 5000 of us living in the small town I do). EV charging at home, in street as well as on drive and in garage) is essential IMHO especially in areas where there is a high percentage of people who either don't work or work from home.
  21. Not yet, the guys at Ross-Tech are working on it but since the Golf 8 isn't freely available in the US (where they are based) it won't be this week or this month. Even with the diagnostic gateway you can still get fault code details, but you can't make any changes. BTW these comments apply to ALL third party diagnostic tools including OBD11, etc. and not just to VCDS.
  22. It's not like that in much of the rural areas of the country - the vast majority of the people in the small town where I live drive approx 20 miles each way to work each day; yes we can get home deliveries from some (not all) of the supermarkets but where I live NONE of the national food takeaway companies operate so even getting a takeaway from one of the national companies means a 40 mile round trip by car. The "powers that be" need to think of the whole country not just the large cities...
  23. It's many years since I collected a new car with a full tank of fuel (IIRC it was in 1999).
  24. Got a link to the kit on AliExpress please?
