Could be one dead module on the Powertrain CAN dragging it down? Maybe worth unplugging one module on that at a time to see if it unfreezes the Powertrain CAN to localise the fault.

Who last worked in that area? - the garage that changed the timing belt. Who should have noticed loose bolts or didn't tighten bolts correctly while working in that area? - the garage that changed the timing belt. As @EnterName says it's very suspicious that they don't want to put it right. I also agree that you should get an expert second opinion and if he/she agrees with us then "have a discussion" with the garage that changed the timing belt. BTW the Skoda UK advice to change the timing belt every 5 years was withdrawn earlier this year - it was totally out of step with the rest of the VAG empire and made no engineering sense.

The latest beta of VCDS can now scan SFD2 modules for fault codes - one 'feature' of SFD2 over SFD is that even scanning for fault codes is locked without a workaround!

Which ECU there are many? Do you specifically mean the engine ECU?

Have you checked whether the fuse for the blower motor is OK?

Hint: Use a meaningful title for your threads not your name! For many years fitting a new battery has required telling the car it has been fitted by recoding the Battery Management System.

I've been running iOS18 beta since WWDC in June 2024 (and iOS18.1 beta in the last week) with no issues with CarPlay.

Sounds like an intermittent problem with a wheel speed sensor (or the wiring to it) to me - all those systems rely on accurate vehicle speed data. Time to do a fault code scan (with VCDS, OBDeleven or similar) to get a clue which wheel to look at.

What are you trying to do/change?, there are dozens of long codes for the many electronic modules in a Mk3 Octavia!

I gave up using Mac mail on my MacBook to access Hotmail as it seems to regularly have problems due to changes by Apple, Microsoft or both. I use web based Hotmail via Safari, but even that failed for 2 days a few days ago so I had to use Firefox temporarily. Seems to me that Apple and Microsoft are deliberately making life difficult for each other!

Slightly off topic but how easy would it be to fit a vRS exhaust to a 1.8 L&K, the 1.8 and 2.0 are the same basic engines and I do like the twin rear exhaust look (I even had a custom twin outlet exhaust made for a Citroen C1 so it 'matched' my RS4!

I love technology and touchscreens (my work nickname was Inspector Gadget!) and wouldn't be without the many IOT devices in my home and my touchscreen tablets and smartphone, but context and place is important. In a vehicle having to look down at a touchscreen to change a driving setting is much more of a hazard than with physical controls as your fingertips get feedback to help locate the physical control without the need to look down and take your attention away from the road (and change the focus of your eyes which adds further delay re-focussing even when you look back at the road). IMHO in vehicles touchscreens should only be used for comfort and convenience functions, with all driving related functions having physical controls.

Just asking We returned from France on Saturday on the Brittany Ferries Roscoff to Plymouth route. At check-in in Roscoff there was a notice asking drivers of hybrid or EV vehicles to inform the check-in person who would then give them a round "EV" sticker (even if it was a hybrid) to apply to their windscreen. BTW there was no such notice on the outbound trip from Plymouth a week earlier? While waiting to board we spoke with the driver of a Toyota RAV4 hybrid in the queue behind us who said that when he asked the check-in person why they needed to know she replied she didn't know. When onboard the ferry we looked around and saw that vehicles with the EV sticker were not segregated and just parked in the lanes with all other cars, SUVs and vans. So why the need for the EV sticker last weekend and not the weekend before on the same ferry, the Armorique?

My climate control is set at 20° in Summer and 21° in Winter. GFs spends most of the time at 20° but has short burts down as low as 17° 😁

Sounds like one of the temperature flaps (there is more than one) is stuck - you really need a decent code scan (with e.g. VCDS or OBDeleven) to tell you which one.

Battery needs charging? Something staying on when it shouldn't, such as a dash cam?

Over the air updates are not available on the Octavia 3.

The 20 plate has a GFP, the 19 plate doesn't.

Larger wheels mean lower profile tyres which will give a harsher ride - so only do it if cosmetic appearances matter a lot to you.

My Elegance and L&K have the Mode button, but other spec levels may not.

The different rotational speed of the wheel will make the ABS based TPMS think that that tyre is deflated. Moving it to any other position on the car won't make any difference to that. Seriously, you need to have tyres/wheels on each axle that are the same outside diameter, so you need to have replaced 2 tyres or 4 but not 3.

Driving Mode was an option on many trim levels, not standard. The manual covers all options so many things mentioned in the manual won't be on your Octavia.
