The Amundsen sat nav on my Mk3 Octavia shows the altitude - all be it incorrectly as Skoda couldn't be bothered to convert metres to feet correctly and simply multiplied by 3!

This highlights the problems of charging infrastructure capacity not keeping up with demand, and high costs per kWh of public rapid (whatever the correct term is) charging points. For most ICE drivers to consider the change to EV the speed and ease of "refilling" needs to be (near) identical.

In the 25 years I've owned various VAG vehicles (from a 1.4TSI to a 4.2FSI) I've noticed a pattern of zero or low oil usage up to 10,000 miles after a service, and up to 1 litre per 5,000 miles after that. Which is a great argument for servicing intervals no greater than 10,000 miles despite what flexible servicing may say.

There's a microswitch builtin to the boot lock which tells the boot is open and turns on the lights - sounds like either the wiring to it is faulty, or microswitch is faulty or has gone out of adjustment.

Sounds like an intermittent connection between the satellite antenna and the head unit.

One, or more, of the wheel speed sensors has failed. Get a diagnostic scan done which will tell you which one.

Sounds like either there is a problem with the connections to the OBDII connector(could be power, ground or Diagnostic CAN), or the CAN Gateway has a problem. I think you need to get a wiring diagram and do some old fashioned wiring testing.

A dead short on the CAN bus at the diagnostic connector indicates a short on only the Diagnostic CAN, the CAN Gateway acts like a CAN equivalent of an EWthernet switch so a short on the Diagnostic CAN does not necessarliy mean there is a short on any of the other CAN buses in the vehicle (Powertrain CAN, Comfort CAN, Infotainment CAN, etc.)

As previous posts have mentioned, Skoda tune for the lowest emissions rating not for drivability. Drivability has never been the main concern of car manufacturers, 35 years ago when I worked at an automotive consultancy and engine management was relatively new client car manufacturers didn't want drivability just low fuel consumption - the only difference now is they want low emissions.

MY23 refers to cars made from approximately July 2022 (usually after a summer shutdown but not always) with a VIN year digit that indicates 23 as the model year.

For VCDS unless you want to connect to the car using WiFi then go for a HEX-V2 which is USB only, the HEX-NET is USB and WiFi.

When you installed VCDS did you tell it to install legacy drivers? You need those for a HEX-CAN and earlier cables. As Langers2k has said you'll only have limited functionality with a HEX-CAN on a 2023 vehicle (VAG made so many changes in the CAN protocols that the HEX-CAN simply cannot be upgraded to fully work), so you should consider using the Ross-Tech upgrade offer to get a HEX-V2 or HEX-NET.

Probably not applicable to the Mk4.5 facelift, but shows that Euro NCAP share concerns about too many functions being on soft keys not proper buttons. Vehicles need fewer screens and more buttons

The remotes are very sensitive to battery type and age but I do have to ask, since you say the red light doesn't show, whether there is a clear plastic film left on the battery?

What version of VCDS did you have on the old laptop, and the new laptop? And when you purchased VCDS did it come with a CD or not?

The standard spec of Bolero over the years has not included sat nav, until MIB3 it simply wasn't possible to add sat nav to a Bolero you had to swap to an Amundsen or Columbus head unit - so being able to add sat nav to a Bolero (at a cost) is a step forwards.

With all the supply chain problems in recent years, they don't have left over bits at the end of a model run. Remember they've been quietly removing some bits from the standard spec as they couldn't get the parts.

I ran a 2004 Skoda Fabia for 12 years with no visible rust, and a 2006 Audi RS4 for 10 years with no visible rust - massive improvement on several Austin/Morris/Rover/ARG cars that would show visible rust within 18 months.

That's for LHD cars, as you're in Wales you have a RHD car so it should be Mirror control in L

On the PFL Octavia 3 (not sure about the FL) you have to cut off a plastic section at the rear of the headlamp to gain access to the indicator bulb. Skoda dealers sell a repair pack that incudes a screw on replacement cover.

Which is why it frustrates me that some on here (not spcdust) quote the infotainment software version number when talking about a different module - it's irrelevant!
