It’s 3.1 litres with a headlamp wash system and 3.7 without, which is weird..

My MKII CD170 Manual failed at 45k. Main symptoms were judder pulling away in 1st and it clattered like crazy, but tbh I don’t know if it’d be the same with a DSG. It was bloody expensive too, about £1,400 and that was in 2012. No idea what the cost would be now.

Yep. They were all using cheap Russian steel and zero paint protection. Fiat/Lancia/Alfa got the brunt of bad press, but they were all buying it.

Move the seat all the way forward. When it stops, move the switch forward again and the seat will move a cm or so. Do the same when moving the seat back; when it stops, move the switch backwards again and the seat will move back a bit more. Then reset the seat memories.

These are the cars that are on SORN - Statutory Off the Road Notification, where the owner informs the government that they own the car but it’s not parked on the road so is not liable for tax. I expect the owners were all, or maybe are all still “planning” to restore them. And you’re right - it’d be at huge expense especially given the lack of parts.

I’m getting 22-23 in the cold weather this week on our 2016 280 but my commute is tiny, just 2 miles in each direction, which is about the same as the wife’s 2003 2.0 Focus! During the summer I get 24-26 on the same journey. On a decent 200 mile drive I’ve had around 35-37 and I did once get 39 on a 300 mile drive, but that involved long stretches of 50mph roadworks on the M6.

If only, Bap. Here, there are 5 TI’s which are all off the road, 5 SL Autos off and 1 on the road, 2 GTI’s and 2 STI’s, all four of which are off the road.

Next to the 280, the 604 was the best car I’ve owned. If only it have the habit of disintegrating before one’s eyes, I’d’ve kept it; I’d absolutely love to own one today.

There is a simple reason it runs out so quickly; the water bottle is too bleedin’ small, especially if your car is fitted with headlamp washers, which keep going off pointlessly. The screen wash bottle on our Peugeot 604ti held a gallon!

I’m guessing that would be a no. Anyway, what’s the age, mileage, engine and gearbox type and what service did you have last? BTW, this thread is titled “What have you done to your MKIII today”, not “What have I got to do to my MKIII next, or at some other point in the future”! 😂

Canton system was standard on L&K. It’s the best OE system I’ve heard. (Oh and mine has a TV tuner too but that was discontinued as standard from April ‘16 build).

You can’t skip on servicing these cars. The DSG, Haldex and rear diff must be serviced as per the manufactures specs as the minimum requirement. I have the engine and DSG oil changed annually given the short daily commute I do. Expensive I know, but it’s worth it. Incidentally, you’re worried the 280 is a heavy car? Well, the 280 is 160lbs heavier than a MK7 DSG Golf R.

Best car I’ve ever had, and I’ve had many exotics having worked in car rental for 25 odd years. It’s quiet (especially so since I changed the tyres from P7’s to Conti All Season) refined, very comfortable and as the 2nd owner (1st is a member here) I was lucky that he ordered it with many extras. And yes, it’s fast… VERY fast. With 276bhp, the 0-60 is circa 5/6 seconds and it’s restricted to 155. I’ve fitted a Racechip GTS Black so it’s now pushing 320bhp and ‭331‬lbft torque. Unfortunately, I do a 4 mile round trip commute and I get 24mpg. But I have had 39 on a 200 mile run. It’s a keeper especially as I believe it’s going to be a sort after classic, given it practically and rarity. If you find a nice one and you can afford it, don’t hesitate and you’ll miss it. PS - as others have suffered, I’ve had a failed water pump, which is a known weakness on the EA888 engine. Also had a failed ABS sensor and a leak on the Aircon condenser. Thats it, in 45,000 miles. I love it.

Not really. Mine went at 38,000 miles (‭61,155‬km). As Colin said, brace yourself…..😖
