Has my local garage ruined my snow monster?
Apparently its easy to confuse which are the drain and fill plugs for both the Haldex and the Diff which are situated close together. So they could drain the diff thinking it was old Haldex oil, and refill the diff with Haldex oil which is totally different, "non lubricative" fluid used to promote friction on the haldex clutch plates. So will actually destroy a diff in next to no time.

Has my local garage ruined my snow monster?
Oooh... @J.R. and others will explain but afaik its likely the wrong drain plug was removed, instead of draining the haldex, he drained the diff and presumably tried refilling the haldex, leaving the diff dry which is now completely knackered.

Do air conditioning/climatronic systems need regular servicing?
True, but turning the a/c on regularly does move the gas/oil around more effectively, forces pressures/temperatures to build up and helps keep a fraction of the compressor oil in gaseous suspension which is beneficial to keeping seals from leaking. By regularly, I don't mean constantly, although I have no doubt many mechanics will recommend you do. What you really should do is make a habit of turning your ac off at least a few minutes before your journeys end whilst keeping the fan speed going. This will dry out the evaporator (the unseen radiator that cools the air in your car) which would otherwise be saturated with condensation. This will help stop the growth of bacteria on the evaporator which leads to the classic stink/smell when the ac is not running. Impossible to clean an evaporator once lots of bacterial growth forms, the aircon cleaning you will invariably also be offered by dealers etc as an extra chargeable service will just be a short term remedy using an airborne disinfectant treatment. The stink will always return. Great for dealers etc, a high profit service with little labour involved. You can buy the same ac cleaning products for under £10 and do it yourself if you have a stinking ac btw.

Do air conditioning/climatronic systems need regular servicing?
No they do not need servicing , full stop. If its working ok, cooling etc, not making strange sounds, just leave it alone. The only time it needs maintenance or repair is if it's performance is sub par, usually due to a gradual loss of refrigerant gas over time or its broken down completely which could be anything, for example stone damage to the condensor radiator. You are doing the right thing by running the aircon regularly as this circulates the special ac lubricant around with the refrigerant, helping to keep the seals from shrinking and leaking. Modern ac systems should not leak much, and many will go several years without needing a regas. Dealers nowadays are keen to upsell unecessary work, a practice established by the quick fit places years ago. They are now backed by Skoda UK who publish, advertise and send out fancy postcards, texts etc telling you your aircon service is due, hoping you will think this is obligatory and necessary. It is a downright lie. Ignore it. Don't let anyone touch your aircon if its working fine. I'm sure you wouldn't consider servicing your refrigerator if it was working ok would you?

Kamiq review - short and sweet
Seems some can't respect that people can possibly have a different opinion to their own. I thought that was an exclusive mindset among those characters who post in the political threads of the roadside hotel. If you love your Kamiq - that's great - Im glad for you, so you made a good decision, for you. To me, after an hours test drive, it was just hmmm, lets look at something else instead. End of my contribution to this thread. Heres Mat Watson's view, more in line with yours, maybe not as extremely gushing

any views on these seats?
My 2018 SEL exec has full black leather (they were standard as per brochure of the time) but I recall at the time of ordering there were short term supply issues with certain combinations, beige leather was temporarily unavailable and half alcantra/half leather was supplied FOC if requested. Mine came with some stretch marks/sags in the drivers base and the rear passenger centre base, which for some stupid reason I thought might just go away in time. But they never did and now I'm stuck with it.

Kamiq review - short and sweet
It didn't have the silver dash or those two tone seats, so I was probably right, it must have been a basic model. But who am I to argue with a salesman?

Full marks to our Franco expat/emigrant (don't know which one is his preferred description). Capitals used on the proper nouns and not randomly in the middle of a sentence as per @mandpalthough I may be wrong as english is not my first language....

Be careful or one of our Scottish residents will be along shortly and we'll all be having trouble understanding what is being said.

Don't forget to pay the fuel duty though. The smell will give the game away if you get pulled over.....

Never liked London, unfortunately I'm not allowed to fly abroad at the moment. Does Scotland and Wales have Capitals?

Kamiq review - short and sweet
I've already had a test drive in a Kamiq for over an hour or maybe you missed that bit. My son was with me,as he is the one who will choose. It will be his replacement car. He does 20,000+ miles a year all over the country for work. He pretty much dismissed it within the first 15 minutes. I will admit my assessment of rear seat space was by looking from the front passenger seat. I was more concerned about occasional bouncing on uneven roads, as it reminded me of the Corsa we had 14 years ago which ended up bouncing into a roadside ditch and rolling into a farmers field. Maybe I'm spoiled with my Superb and previous cars which were all much larger. My favourite was our Seat Alhambra. We have tried a new Octavia Estate which was much better, but I think the Leon may be more his cup of tea. But its ok to have an opinion. Good or otherwise. Everyone is different. The Kamiq will no doubt be popular, more so than the Skoda Rapid (reskinned as the Scala).

Why is car insurance so expensive?
That's a bit of a red herring. A provisional driver requires to be accompanied and under supervision of a fully qualified driver with so many years full licence. When I put my kids on when they were learning (about 15+ years ago) it made very little difference in price. When they got full licence and able to drive on their own, the price jumped.

Kamiq review - short and sweet
No thank you We have a Superb, an Octavia and a Fabia The fabia is going to be supplanted most probably by a new Seat Leon later this year. The Kamiq is not on my radar for reasons already given and its front end is ugly anyway imo. I'm very happy for you that you find your Kamiq wonderful, maybe they are all squishy now and not just textured plastic. But its not a car that impressed me enough to consider it. I advise people to always take an extended test drive before they look to buy any car regardless of make or model and see if its exactly what they want.

Digital Traffic Info
Afaik, if you don't have Skoda Connect services then the nav will just grab TMC messages which I would have thought is input from multiple sources. I would have thought the Highways Agency is a major inputter of data, directly into the INRIX managed system. Skoda Maps are from Here Technologies a consortium of big car makers. Skoda connect is a subscription based service, so its up to them to get that traffic info to you and meet their obligations. But then I might just be talking rubbish

Amundsen with Deactivated NAV? How to solve it?
He has Apple car play and Android Auto, many nav apps available for free or minimal cost that are superior to the Skoda nav.

Why is car insurance so expensive?
If its not your car, can you show/prove you are not /will not be the main driver? In that case the policy should be in the main drivers name and you as a named driver. You do need to declare your useage honestly, eg if you will be using it to commute to work. Shop around. Plenty of insurers around some specialising in people like you.
