  1. Argue while it is still under warranty, so much easier!
  2. This was the argument I started with Skoda, and eventually won. They time and time again said that SUK CS don't offer good will anymore, and it down to the dealer. They have to request it to be approved from SUK CS (my understanding), and the most they can claim back is 50%. The Fixed Servicing price they quote on their website is for cars > 3 years, so you should be able to get them to use those prices and then haggle for 50% off that. My car was under 3 years when it went in for the same issue (just just over the mileage warranty limit), and they tried to mug me off with the "we can charge what we like as we don't publish prices for cars which are less than 3 years old". I went down the route of "so Skoda believe it is acceptable to replace the water pump price, each time at a cost of £500+ before a cambelt is due, which then generally involves the cameblt being changed too. This is simply not acceptable." I spoke to SUK twice, and got nowhere better than 50% of a really expensive "made up price", and eventually FB'd them and spoke to someone else from Customer services (they phoned me). I put my argument across again, stating that as the part has been revised it must show there was a design fault, and I refuse to pay." Eventually SUK CS told the dealer to do it FOC, but it took a week before this happened. Guess the dealer got 50% back from SUK, and the rest of the cost they had to fake through the books - training, or something. Either way, I am not sure the dealer in question ever wants to see me again! Curiously enough the first time I spoke to SUK CS they had no record of a warranty request being put in for my car. When I questioned that, the SUK CS lady said "oh, we don't have access to see that...." which was rather odd as she initially said "let me to check to see the state of the warranty claim from the dealer". All rather fishy. All the dealer customer service staff I spoke too seemed to actually be on my side, but obviously their hands were tied. I managed to get a cambelt changed at the same time too, so I just paid £300 for the cambelt kit, but I figured it was worth doing it now as the labour was free (being covered by 'warranty'). I had a CityGo for a week so I added a good few miles to that (120/day) :-)
  3. Deffo, get it looked at before the warranty expires (miles and age), as after that you will have a battle on your hands to get it all the costs covered. Mine failed at ~2 1/2 years, but as I was over the 60k miles (by about 1k miles) Skoda tried to wash their hands of it.
  4. I can't see how they can time limit the downloads to only working on cars of under 3 years old, unless it is done at download time (ie. VIN check), so yes, once you c an find the actual map data then anyone should be able to download and extract it to their current Skoda Map SD card. One of my work mates has recently purchased a new car with a MIB1, so I was hoping that if my VIN was no longer acceptable I could use his for a few years - might tell him first though :-)
  5. I think new maps are due out shortly (end of April?), so it might be worth hanging fire until they come out? That said, nice find
  6. My bad on the DSG (mine was done by the dealer just before I bought it).... although we don't know if the OP has a DSG in his 1.6.... profile suggests he has a 1.9! Ideally we need to the OP to confirm what his car his and what previous servicing it has or hasn't had. At least it won't be due a cambelt yet!
  7. Based on this: http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed/pages/default.aspx That well more than a full service, but it will be due a brake fluid change for an additional £52, DSG oil change is another £175, but that is only due at 60k Minor (149) vs Full (269) only seems to include air filter & fuel filter (plus some visual checks - which you basically expect from the minor service, imho)
  8. leaking is a different issue to the overheat issue - where the sleeve jams, reducing the water flow.
  9. I've replied to your PM, so won't repeat myself here. However if you want it done under warranty then you'll need to visit a dealer. Sound them out first before committing yourself. As your car is out of warranty by age, you can now use the older than 3 year servicing costs to base your decision on. A short, slow drive for a few miles and then a quick hill climb in generally the trigger to indicate the sticking sleeve on the waterpump.
  10. Before considering a Mr Muscle treatment see if you can freely and easily move the actuator on the turbo. What is your normal driving style like? Miss Granny or do you drive it like you stole it?
  11. On my 2014 cr vrs you can't get anything into the tank (apart from the filler station diesel nozzle), so you'd need to purchase an emergency fill funnel thing too before you could even consider adding anything.
  12. I might want to look around the HTPC market, as if used in a livingroom quietness will be key.
  13. Don;t forget a reasonable resolution screen, unless she will be using it with an external monitor for the majority of time....
  14. Mine did that - it reported an overheat as the sleeve jammed, but a few seconds later it moved, following the normal water flow to resume and the temp dropped back down. The standard condition for triggering this seemed to be a short (slow) drive for say 5-10 minutes (around town) and then a steep hill climb. In my case from my house and over to Portland, and then climb up Fortuneswell Hill onto the top of the rock. I managed to get mine done under warranty (after a week of wrangling), did also pay for the cambelt kit, so the dealer fitted it FOC while there were in there. Think this thread covers it -
  15. Diesel or petrol? Could be a sticky sleeve (designed to allow quicker wrmer up) on the water pump if a diesel.
  16. I suspect the last 2 detailed ones are caused by me enabling the Lane Assist camera for Speed sign detection. Prior to that, however someone drove into my front offside wheel (20 Feb) so hard they broke the hub, so various parts were replaced by the insurance company, not sure if any of that would have a knock on affect. 17. Gave the car a wash at the weekend, so the screen is pretty clean. That reminds me, must go and scan the car!
  18. Twice on my drive to work over the last month or two (most recent was yesterday), I have heard a beep/boing sound, and then I have glanced down at the dash when safe to do so (normally a few seconds later) I have spotted the message '(check?) Workshop..... <something>' on the display, along with the yellow warning hazard triangle. Sadly the message seems to vanish before I have had a chance to read it fully - much more quickly than than the 'ice warning' etc messages. I've checked on the headunit and not seen any messages, other than one saying the Road Sign detection is limited (get a beep and a warning a few minutes after every time I start the start the car). I was about 35 minutes into the trip, probably travelling at about 50mph on a straight-ish piece of road at a slight uphill gradient. Will try and connect up VCDS later and see if that can tell me anything. But in the mean does thing ring any bells?
  19. on a 64 plate it is unlikely to have the issue with the overheating caused by a sticky sleeve on the waterpump which affected early CR VRS's, as the pump was revised by them (I believe). Changing a water pump is expensive in terms of labour, so I again another reason why I think it is unlikely they would have been replaced en-mass. I triggered mine with a short (sub 10 minute) drive around town and then a steep hill climb, at the top it overheated, and then the sleeve un-jammed allowing the water pump to function correctly and normal service was resumed.
  20. Probably where many GBs of internet traffic came from - repeated downloads and failed installs of a given KB ;-)
  21. My work commute is 120 miles (round trip) on country A roads, so a few hills and plenty of corners, plus a few villages, plus Weymouth and Salisbury. I see low 50s from my 2014 CR VRS DSG which is fast approaching 66k. Generally in D, but do sometimes boot it up hills in S for a bit of fun :-) Return trip sees probably 10-15 minutes of stop-start through Salisbury and the outskirts of Dorchester.
  22. Never falls out of the DNS cache We can train and apply white listing (at a user level) if there are regular messag senders which blocked.
  23. I have a cheap android tablet which does this. Cheap POS. As yours used to work, I'd suggest a driver issue, but you can check out the links below https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4000432 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10741/windows-10-fix-network-connection-issues
