  1. I think the clutch may not be disengaging properly which won't affect the biting point necessarily.
  2. Forum lore states that all cars with xenons had washers, I would imagine that washers were available as a cost option for non xenon cars though, someone will have a boring list saved somewhere to confirm. Xenons are a nuisance because they get so hot they damage the reflector so not having them is ok in my opinion.
  3. I think the clutch is the problem unless the clutch hydraulics are failing.
  4. Ah, I was fitting Eibach springs to Bilstein struts, maybe the springs were a lot shorter.
  5. If you're replacing the lot then it isn't necessary to use spring compressors, I just wound the top nut on and that compressed the spring just fine.
  6. I didn't replace my strut mount bolts, I reused them, that was six years ago and they're still all intact, likewise the pinch bolts. You don't have to replace every fastener if they're not stretch bolts.
  7. Why didn't you get it replaced on the insurance, it would only have cost £75 for the excess.
  8. Check for obvious stuff like loose exhaust heatshields before assuming the worst.
  9. Why is it so important to you to get up my nose, your post was a direct reply to mine, whereas I was quoting and replying to the OP about spark plugs, not bloody HGV wheel nuts. This whole 'Safety Police' thing is a complete nonsense, if someone gives specific advice that is unsafe then it's reasonable to call it out, otherwise it's just worthless postcount padding.
  10. Just. Stop. Being. A. D!ck. A spark plug is not a safety critical item. What is WRONG with you! I would never advocate cutting corners on safety critical components, I check torque on my van wheelnuts every week. I never attack you, why are you having a go at me? There's no excuse for it, if your personal life is sad then you have my sympathy but leave me the hell out of it.
  11. I don't think the colour of the plastic matters, the plug will be the same, the length of the lead might be different though. Best thing to do is find your existing probe and take a good look at it.
  12. Stuff like this is not critical if you're experienced and understand why it mustn't be too tight, I never follow a recipe when I cook so I don't measure ingredients, this is exactly the same principle.
  13. They're overcompensating for the flickering candle between their ears.
  14. It's just a thermocouple in a fancy housing, they're all the same really just with a different plug on the end depending on application.
  15. it was designed in the 90's, which is why there's such a size difference compared to Golf tyres, Audi A1 has plenty of clearance for steamroller sized wheels, townies love 'em, huge wheels and rubber bands for that essential RICE look, never mind the kidney damage and the aquaplaning because they never get out of town anyway, they're obsessed with headlights too even though everywhere they go has street lighting.
  16. All this theorycrafting. I've settled on 195 50 15 after trying most other sizes, they're lighter and better handling, also the Fabia 1 has smaller arches than the later cars which can handle a bigger tyre without fouling. I thought carefully about putting the 16's back on so I could fit 312mm brakes but it's nearly 200kg lighter than a VRS and doesn't need the bigger brakes and the handling is already pin-sharp.
  17. Yes, it's fine, I usually do pinched plus a quarter turn.
  18. Gaps won't change, they're a standard size which means the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre together is the same.
  19. A reduction in unsprung weight is always beneficial to handling and acceleration. I too use Audi pepperpot alloys, paid £100 for all four about eight years ago, sold a pair of the oversized tyres they came with for £40 as well, I have a 15" steel spare which came with the car but I'd be happy to use steel wheels if I didn't have the pepperpots, they each feel about 5kg lighter than the 16" VRS alloys which are very heavy indeed.
  20. They can be fixed by replacing the seals, it doesn't look very serious though, you can relax for now, just have a clean up with some solvent and a rag.
  21. @Wino already gave you the correct answer, you can just snip the dead wire at the ECU end and the sensor end and run a new length of wire between them using crimp connectors or better yet, solder and heatshrink. Half an hours work and a few pennies then just zip tie that new wire tidily and it's fixed.
  22. No, the injectors either work or they don't, however the injectors seals may be leaking, it's very hard to tell from the images.
  23. Essential intervention there, doesn't feel stalky at all, just point that thing somewhere else when you're talking to me
  24. Dude, I'm happy for you to be happy but what I don't want is for you to break your first car trying to stick silly crap all over it, you should be driving it, not breaking it. Spend the money on fuel and go drive it.
  25. Personally I wouldn't touch one, I'd go manual every time, so many of these DSG cars end up on ebay as spares or repairs because they're prohibitively expensive to get repaired.
