  1. If it's any consolation I have to fit a new one on my 2.0 every two years just to get it through the MOT, it's because the engine core is so ancient, I guess yours is a 1.4 MPI so it's no surprise to me, both our engines barely met Euro 3 emissions when brand new!
  2. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17584/P1176/004470 http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16555/P0171/000369 Not really, it's still all pointing at the pre-cat lambda probe. If anything it's confirmation!
  3. Give it five minutes and the Furby will decide for you.
  4. May I humbly suggest a sheet of 18mm ply from your local wickes will transform your driveway into a usable workspace, even a remnant of industrial carpet will do and you can roll it up to store it.
  5. I'd get the PSB polybushes if I were you, the Cupra solids are a PIG to fit even with the right tool which is expensive.
  6. I always chop the wire off the one I'm replacing so I can use a proper deep socket because the split sockets are pants for removing seized sensors.
  7. So tell them you want the clear one you ordered and you'll send the green one back if they want it. If you bought it on the bay then you're protected and they'll have to swap it!
  8. The brush pack on the alternator contains a rectifier and voltage regulator in addition to the brushes, any of these components can be failing but replacing it will fix the low voltage issue. I had a 1.4 16V like yours and it needed a brush pack nearly ten years ago, so I'm not surprised you need one now.
  9. The ECU is adding fuel because it thinks the mixture is lean, this means the probe is sooted up, this could be because the heating element is kaput, either way the probe is delicate and difficult to clean. I generally use NGK or Denso probes because they're better value.
  10. Don't use magic detailing crap on daily drivers, it's for making show cars glisten like freshly laid turds. Mr Muscle glass cleaner is just fine and dandy.
  11. I suggest it's the lambda probe, probably the heating element gone open circuit. Unless it's been replaced recently or there's a wiring fault you should swap it out.
  12. Yes 90A. The click is a relay. Yes the alternator is at fault, you can confirm this by measuring the voltage at idle after starting the engine, it will be lower than 14.4V which is why the dash light is staying on until you blip the throttle.
  13. The alternator issue is simple to repair, it just needs a new brush pack, however getting the correct brush pack is a little trickier, I was able to take mine to a local reconditioner and he was able to supply a replacement for £25.
  14. I believe it's likely to be an ABS module fault, there is a hydraulic pressure accumulator in the module and it sounds like yours may be letting pressure into the system when it should not.
  15. All Mark 1 Fabia wing mirrors are the same size so you should probably use different parts sites.
  16. I have a set I bought secondhand for £15, as long as the fixing is correct for the Mark 1 then it doesn't matter, the fixing is like an expanding claw that fits in the roof channel under the plastic trim, if you look you'll see little cutouts in the trim that you have to remove to fit them.
  17. It's like a few weeks ago when those of us who work couldn't buy any fuel to get to work because those who no longer work had bought it all and stashed it on their driveways in vehicles they barely use. Go figure.
  18. No, I think you're worrying unduly.
  19. Dig out the invoice and remind them, I just bet it'll turn out to be something else!
  20. I'm not doubting that there's a fault code for the EGR, I'm saying it wouldn't prevent the car from starting. When a garage says "that'll be a grand mate" what they really mean is that they have no idea what's actually wrong with the car but if you'll agree to a huge bill then they'll come pick it up and fix it, no matter what's wrong with it.
  21. I was simply pointing out that the current sensing circuitry is very tricky to overcome and that if he was fed up with replacing bulbs that he didn't need to use them. Ok.
  22. Because they're not mandated by law like they are in other European countries where these cars are sold. That's why.
  23. Get a second opinion, use a mobile VW specialist to come and diagnose the fault, I don't believe any EGR fault would prevent the car from running.
