  1. I didn’t mean go to a garage necessarily, but seek advice. For novices. But I don’t think you need any advice on the basics if you’ve handled Disco wheel changing. The change from studs to bolts can be difficult in some instances, but I find the Skoda wheels snug onto the hub quite happily and allow the wheel to turn for bolt hole alignment. Jack up to the minimum necessary height to slip the wheel off/on without having to lift the wheel at all. An inch of ground clearance doesn’t help. Or do what I do with my bike rear wheel - cut the head off a long stud and let that carry the wheel when mounting. Easy peasy.
  2. Axle stand under a main suspension bar or sub-frame. Always. In the olden days there was a chassis of course. Now it’s all just soft tin under there. So you can normally rely on the main suspension structure or cross member to safely use an “axle stand”. Sometimes under the main vertical strut at the front. It’s all pretty obvious once you get underneath. Or Phone A Friend. Not something to practice on Willy-Nilly. If you don’t know what you’re doing then step away from the jack.
  3. I’m not quite answering the whole question, but with 3 grown up kids and 5 grandchildren I’ve been through an awful lot of child seats over many years. My current “stock” of seats caters for 2 to 9 year old as needed. I haven’t needed 3 seats across at once, but these are some of the ones I have presently. Big Recaro is Isofix. I like Recaro. The Halfords are non-Isofix. I chose them for lightness and easy of swapping from car to car. They are secured with the normal seat belt. The smallest one is suitable for our 2 year old and can be converted by removing the full harness when needed.
  4. Indeed it does. It defaults to “coasting” at every opportunity in Normal, Individual and of course Eco modes. In Snow mode it stays in gear all the time. With “Lethargic” as it’s middle name. And heavy steering. Manual over ride obviously tells it what to do any time. VCDS doesn’t figure in my world.
  5. No ACC here. Straight forward driving with a DSG box. It has a mind of it’s own. Hence my dis-satisfaction with the way the gearbox modes works when I’d prefer a different gear mode.
  6. I wouldn’t be surprised if a window rattles when it is in neither the fully closed nor fully open position. Thats life. And mechanics. I almost never drive around with windows open due to wind roar, so have no complaints.
  7. Anyone who owns a 1.4 or 1.5 will tell you they’re absolutely fine. Naturally. And anyone with a 2.0, petrol or diesel will tell you that’s the only one to have. As suggested above, you must go try them and decide which one meets your needs. We all have different needs and “must have” criteria. Petrol? Diesel? 4WD? 2WD? 5 seats? 7 seats? Personally, I’d never ask such a question. I just make my own mind up.

On my previous Superb running 17” alloys, my local dealer was happy to provide proper 16” steel wheels with my choice of winter tyre. 205/55 x16 Continentals.
  9. An old thread, but coasting / freewheeling won't go away. Most days I flip / flop between modes as the journey evolves - usually Normal, Individual and occasionally Sport - with lots of manual over-ride as needed. Whether the car coasts or not for a few moments doesn't usually bother me as I can switch quickly between Normal and Sport drive by flicking the gear leaver or going manual with the paddles. But this week, the coasting did bug me, because it seems that only in Snow mode will the gearbox stay in drive all the time without coasting at all. Which is certainly what I don't want on snow. So during this week's snowy days coasting was avoided using Snow mode, but this made the car quite lethargic (ignoring all the minor adjustments to traction, ABS and whatever else it tweaks in Snow mode) and I didn't want a lethargic car on the wet or dry bits of road. So all in all, the coasting feature became a bit of a nuisance in all the other modes and I now wish it could be turned off just like Stop/Start. It's all part of the fuel economy & emission cheat's game anyway, rather than a true driver aid.
  10. I can confirm that if my VC is displaying “Telephone” in the centre of the dials, then an incoming phone call will be displayed, with the default option set to “Accept” by pressing the RH wheel button. Rolling the button will display the 2 option to “Reject” the call. With the centre dash set to radio in my example, the incoming phone call is also displayed on the centre screen, with the options to accept or reject. I rarely drive with Telephone selected on the centre of the VC as there are far more interesting options most of the time.
  11. It may only be a few days each year, but if you run fat summer tyres, then you’re probably not going to take someone where they need to be on a day like today. And tomorrow. And the next day. I saw one car that couldn’t get out of a Tesco parking slot without a push.
  12. Under the front main sub-frame is usually a good place. To the outer edge not the middle. I assume your not trying to lift both wheels off the ground at the same time. At the rear, the main suspension beam or hub is usually a good place. But I simply use the standard jacking points when I swap winter wheels. Trolley jack with piece of wood. Bingo.
  13. Yes. Ask around your friends and family. Where do they get their cars serviced and MOTd? Your car is out of basic warranty so no need to curry favour with an expensive main dealer.
  14. I suspect that if the VC display is showing Telephone rather that SatNav, Vehicle Data, etc. then the incoming call will be immediately obvious. With the option to scroll Recent Calls. I think my VC works this way from memory, but it’s too cold to go out and check it right now. My centre screen certainly displays an incoming call over anything else. Pretty easy to press Green or Red if necessary. Or simply ignore and keep your eyes on the road.
  15. I suspect that the rufty-tufty off-road package isn’t as tough as you might think. Or desire. Form over function I think. It ain’t a rally car.
  16. Some of us have tried chasing missing logos and succeeded. Others have tried and failed. I’ve uploaded them and it appeared they had been set up ok, but they simply drop out of the picture the next time you start up. I’ve given up completely. I’ve just settled for some channels having a logo and some blank. Some appear on the Digi Dash but not on the central screen. It’s a lottery with Skoda.
  17. When I found that modern cars don’t like old iPods - and I have a few - I used my old iPhone 5 via BT with a selection from my PC iTunes selection. However, I rarely use that now as I prefer a few cached bundles from my favourite Radio Paradise for a few hours of ad-less music on my day-to-day phone, which does not carry music. Via BT. ps - I’m also grateful for my old 2020 Bear having the jukebox plus SD slot.
  18. My Bear has an astonishing selection of screen displays, so I’d be surprised if you can’t find one buried in the config that suits.
  19. I concur. Life’s too short to go near the Skoda App. Lots of better things to do. Next question ?

This is where I am in the thought process. In a couple of years I’ll be looking at little cars, designed properly from the ground up. I can see from my records that car No.2 lives a short journey life, except when I consciously choose to enjoy it on a long trip. So I can see a future where it would stick to short hops only. But they’re soooo expensive. I recently played on the VW page and their own analyser tool compared an ID3 with a Golf and decided “the Golf will be much cheaper for you over 3 years”. No surprise there.
  21. After discussing a minor bump on my wife’s car a few days ago, I asked for a refund due to lower than expected miles. ”Certainly sir, here’s £15”. Same company, 2 policies- so how much refund for my semi-idle Bear? ”Certainly sir, here’s another £20”. You know they were never gonna call me.
  22. Glad I just have a plain SEL. Finally got round to fitting the rear flaps that the dealer delivered last summer. Silly me forgot about them when I did the winter wheel swap last month, but a short tool let me access the screws ok.
  23. I’m biased, but the SEL is the pick of the bunch. It has a lot of gear as standard. Extras are whatever turn you on. We’re all different. Sunroof or Suspension??? The Sportline is all Fur Coat and No Knickers. Form over Function all the way. And who needs an Off-road Kit in 2021? You ain’t gonna go any faster or look more attractive.
