New to me MK2 Purchase
What engine types are we talking here ??? I never had to bother with that with my Octavia DSG ............ PD 105 ......... 6 speed wet ........ I sometimes used left foot on brake with right foot ready to accelerate if I suspected the person next to me wanted to embarrass me, Lol. Not many people embarrassed me even with only 105 horses. (As an aside ..... My Saab was terrible if trying to accelerate whilst moving slowly whilst in 2nd gear .......... CR engine not great at low revs, this was with a manual box whereas a DSG would have put it in 1st..)

Car Safety Radar
And I changed the safety feature to LOW, after a much more serious intervention before I got used to the car and it's settings.

Car Safety Radar
(I know I posted a link from confused.com ....... regarding new for 2025 car safety rules ......... so partly because of that, I mention this very unusual situation). And genuinely I have a (cropped) 19 second video saved on my smartphone I wish I knew how to put on here to show proof....... Whilst driving to work this morning I'm approaching the brow of a hill (Green Lane, Ruddington, Notts) and the road bends to the left immediately at the top. There was a jogger on the pavement on the other side of the road, running towards where I was coming from. I estimate he was 25 to 30 yards away. I think you can guess where I'm going with this .......... My radar picked up on the fact that there was a person in the line of sight and flashed up a big red 💃 on the dash, with an audible warning, and the system kindly applied the brakes for me. You can clearly hear the warning on the video ......... oh, and me saying wtf, Lol. Luckily (I guess) as the person was out of the line of sight within a second or so, the brakes were only lightly applied this time. Anyone following would likely have wondered what the hell I was applying my brakes for, as obviously the brake lights would have come on also. Oh, the wonders of modern technology eh! Thanks for listening ........

Mustang, Dark Horse Edition ............
- Mustang, Dark Horse Edition ............
It was either Fifth Gear or an Auto Mundial (recorded, so slightly old) programme that I saw it on ..... Lovely looking motor and the first one (I believe) that they used a Mustangs head as a badge ..... But where did they put the head ??? ............. But where else would you put a head ......... on the back of course, Lol. I think the designers missed a trick there, or certainly missed out on logic and common sense......... All IMO of course.- Self-Driving Tesla.
And I said ages ago in another topic on here that self driving cars will never happen mainstream ........ Some may think that it will and that is fine......- Blasphemy: Octavia MK3 vs Yaris MK3 - need opinions
@Oct@via13 An accurate last annual mileage would be good, maybe look at your last mot ....... By my reckoning, £50 monthly / £600 annually at £1.33 per litre equates to about 100 Gallons. If you have actually done close to 3000 miles then that's close to an average 30 mpg. ... If my sums are correct, Lol. I hope so. Maybe worth checking in a bit more detail rather than just using your car's onboard information. I have looked at this as I thought mine was actually worse than it is ... I was working on that I get 5 miles to £1 but got sums mixed up after that.- Blasphemy: Octavia MK3 vs Yaris MK3 - need opinions
Or, (if not Brisky member) ........ trusted / recommended independent garages are better than official dealerships IMO. Same reasoning as your fears......... At best they can be ridiculously expensive.- Probably moving to an Audi A4 (update 21/03/25 - or will it be a Roomster?...)
Maybe get someone to do *this* whilst you have a listen from outside the car Pete. It may give you a little more info on this if it may be be an issue or not- Probably moving to an Audi A4 (update 21/03/25 - or will it be a Roomster?...)
My Octy PD was mated to a DSG, which IMO suited it perfectly. I'm sure some of you love a manual gearbox but I previously had a Saab 93 (yes, this was CR though and I know the PD had a bit more low down pull) but frequently i'd be approaching an island in second gear, or just dropped it into second, and then decided I could go, the gearbox frequently decided that I couldn't.......... It never stalled though.- To fold or not to fold - that is the question
You don't have to have, or be referring to a Skoda or a VW to post a reply on this forum.............. I did say "Different car" with the first two words I said............ (I was referring to the 1 series, and it is a uk spec thing, I think.) But I did have the Octavia for almost 14 years ..........- To fold or not to fold - that is the question
In case that was for me ... Mine has 4 buttons (ooh, get you, Lol) but the boot button unlocks the boot and the drivers door ...... The manufacturers obviously assume you are going to drive away once you have put something in the boot. I would prefer it to just unlock the boot but it is factory set to unlock both.- Brake fluid change price ..........
@Aspman Have you looked at the video above ???? It could be the answer to your prayers .......... or at least save you a few quid in the future maybe- To fold or not to fold - that is the question
Different car, but I only fold mine when I really want or feel the need to ...... ie public car park. It annoys me that if I return to the car and unlock it, the mirrors automatically open. I might just be putting something in the boot or getting something that I may have forgotten to get. If the manufacturers programmed them to open only when the car or engine is switched on, it would be much better implemented IMO. Not sure how the ones in yours are set to open? But I agree with what @sussamb says AND @thamestrader I would be treating my door seals to a good clean (if necessary) but definitely a spray of silicone or similar treatment, to stop them sticking. (I think silicone is the right stuff to use iirc)- Does anyone use a frost cover for your car/windscreen?
@slicendice One biggie (imo) to consider, is where to put it when you take it off ...... taking into consideration not only that you want to keep it clean for the next time's use but that also ideally it needs to be dry ...... as possibly dependant on the material, if water gets underneath or it is already wet when you put it in place, it could freeze to the screen. If you store it in the car then I would assume it will cause damp or / and condensation issues. I would think they are good to use for the nights that are dry, but just get moisture freezing from the air, and maybe snow, but if it rains and then freezes with the cover already in place, maybe not so good.- Brake fluid change price ..........
This should do it, Lol ......... youtube Mike MDs- Brake fluid change price ..........
If this guy sorts his microphone out I may be able to save myself £50 (the difference) and not have to go all the way to Derby, Lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbltBaLKSXM- Brake fluid change price ..........
It's the service reminder that stays on the system by the sounds of it, if it doesn't get reset, that will bug me ....... Showing as Orange now as it is due this month (according to them anyway) but sounds like it turns to red if it doesn't get done and reset. Be on the dash for a few seconds every time it is switched on. Cheeky buggers, car manufacturers....... Spoke to them today and they have said that they will do it for £115, as I told them my local garages price and that a web search shows normal prices between £60 to £90 ........... I'm also not sure that I'll be keeping the car due to the road / tyre noise. Some of it is in my head though due to stupid amounts of stress at work dealing with stupid and lazy individuals. Some days not as bad as others.- Brake fluid change price ..........
^^^ ...... What ....... am I missing something there???- Brake fluid change price ..........
I do not think this will surprise many of you ........ But BMW (yes, I know) want me to take my car in to them to change the brake fluid .............. and they want me to pay one hundred and seventy pounds for the privilege, Lol. I took the car to my usual place that the Octavia, Audi and Saab have all visited annually whilst they were in my possession, for it's first MOT today, and asked them for a price to change the brake fluid. That would be sixty five pounds ........... Thanks mate, I will get it booked in, see you soon I said, Lol. The issue is that the car has a service reminder for this and I do not think it can be reset without specialist equipment It does allow me to reset what it cheekily calls an 'annual emissions check'' ......... Lol. Any thoughts ........... (apart from maybe not buying a BMW in the first place, Lol) Thanks. - Mustang, Dark Horse Edition ............
