  1. New World are now part of the Glen Dimplex group which includes Stoves, Belling, Morphy Richards and Roberts (radios). But they have a UK contact centre in Merseyside.
  2. Are you using iCloud to back up or just to sync stuff? This Apple tech article might help you to find where your free 5GB has been used http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4847
  3. Climate is very dependent on ambient temperature. If the car thinks it is below 10 deg C outside then I usually set the climate to 19 or 19.5. If it is warmer outside then 20 to 21 will keep the car pleasant. A tweak of 0.5 deg C can make a big difference to the way the auto function performs.
  4. Terrible to hear about this, but as others have said glad your parents are OK. Sadly this is nothing new and the London Fire Brigade wanted changes made back in 2011 http://www.acr-news.com/news/news.asp?id=3141&title=Fire+brigade+calls+for+higher+standards+in+fridge+freezers
  5. If you are sharing the waste outlet between washing machine and dishwasher you must make sure there is no possibility of back-siphonage otherwise you could get dirty water from one appliance inside the other. This guide might help http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/content/knowledge/how_to/washing_machine/washing_machine.pdf
  6. The other thing is most providers always use the phrase "up to" when quoting speeds and never give you an amount of time you will actually be able to reach the max speed quoted.
  7. Looks like the warmer weather is improving MPG all round as the Roomster seems to be a bit more frugal over the last few days too
  8. SWMBO thought I was a nutter going round every dealer in the area to make sure the seats would fit. Vauxhall dealer was crestfallen to see a Meriva wasn't even close to fitting the seats and I would have to take seats out of row 2 in a standard Zafira to gain access to row 3 (daft bench sliding action). I was downsizing from a Toyota Verso anyway so the test was to find a true 5 seater car.
  9. Have had 3 child seats in the back of our Roomster that will not fit in a Yeti, the reason being the outer 2 seats in the Roomster can be in front or behind the middle seat, this cannot happen in a Yeti. The only other types of car that do fit 3 seats across row 2 are those with all 3 seats separate (Citroen Picasso, Toyota Verso, Fiat Doblo). None of the soft roaders are wide enough either (Mitsubishi ASX, Pug 4008 etc). You can really upset a dealer by taking 3 child seats into the showroom and indicating exactly why you will not buy a particular model
  10. Best position for phone depends what apps you want to run whilst driving. If using as a DVR then the camera will need line of site to what is in front of you. If using as a satnav then you having line of site of the phone whilst not blocking your view of what is ahead is best.
  11. And now for the science bit... http://www.mpoweruk.com/life.htm In short there are quite a few factors that can modify battery life.
  12. If you run your own business you can claim whatever figure you want for a milage allowance. However, when you reach a certain amount for the year HMRC suddenly take an interest in the figures. As the tax rules change at least every 6 months I would always advise talking to an accountant to see what the current situation is as well as any proposed changes. This is the HMRC website discussing car and car fuel benefit http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/cars.htm
  13. There are many devices that can be used as a Time Machine volume. Even so if you don't want to use TM at least have some form of backup in place.
  14. First port of call, ALL Macs have a program called "disk utility" that lives in the applications/utilities folder see if that can see the drive and repair it. Then you have the usual suspects such as Norton etc who produce Mac versions of their disk recovery programs. Also if they are running a Mac why aren't they running Time Machine to back up all important data?
  15. I have sold to CEX, you have to bring them 2 forms of ID to have a valid selling account for 6 months. They usually tell you on the website how much you can expect to get for anything you have to sell. You might also have to wait for the item to be tested before they confirm value (in my case, for a camera lens this took a couple of hours). As with most things it depends how much hassle you want with the selling process. For me eBay is way too much faff especially if you start to use PayPal.
  16. Unless you buy the car with 0% VAT it is going to loose at least 20% of what you paid as soon as you leave the garage. As for "Extras" these are very rarely taken into consideration at all let alone added at anything like the price you paid (and the VAT rule also applies). The dealer who has to sell your car must make the price excluding VAT something they can make money on. A car you pay £12,000 for is on the books as sold for £10,000 for a garage to buy that car back and still make money they would have to pay only £9,500. To a customer that looks like an immediate £2,500 loss in value but the garage would be lucky to make £250 in profit from the deal (after you factor in overheads and inspections etc)
  17. If you want a plug an play extendable WiFi solution have a look at the Apple Airport products they let you extend the range of your wireless network and provide a way to stream audio around the house at the same time. This Apple support article might help http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4262 You can get other manufacturer WiFi devices which allow WDS but you have to check the specs.
  18. I had a similar discussion with my dealer when buying my Roomster. The long and the short of it was the dealer could not tell from any of the Skoda spec sheets which spec would give rear discs and which rear drums. As others have said it is most likely down to some of the traction control features installed as to which type of brakes get fitted.
  19. I use Fasthosts and have not had any issues with them, then again I am not asking anything technically demanding from their service.
  20. Just goes to show how no one can predict the future and everything we are told about if you vote for this you will get that is uncertain at best and more than likely just guessing.
  21. Talking of Cinderella has anyone seen this on AutoTrader... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201203010230565
  22. You can also try killing apps after you have run them rather than letting everything run in the background. Some apps try to find you all the time (triangle in the menu bar) and others will be checking for push notifications every so often. Maybe check some settings to see what you have allowed to check for things in the background.
  23. I have been running the 1.2, 105hp with DSG for coming up to 2 years. The main difference I notice when fully loaded 3 kids, 2 adults is that it holds onto a gear for longer to get the revs higher. When at motorway speeds in 7th you are using 2.5k revs, kickdown can take you to 4th gear to use up to the 6k red line. 50mph to 70mph is also not too shabby as long as you are in the right gear. What I have noticed is a big difference in MPG depending on ambient temperature, warm motorway runs can easily give over 40mpg whilst cold in town runs take things down to between 30 and 35mpg.
  24. What is the context for the result can you compare the handling of a 1.2 petrol engine against a 1.9 diesel, the weight distribution will be different? What other cars were in the survey, all 5 door hatches?
  25. Went to "Sunny Beach" a few years ago. It is essentially a tourist enclave, so you won't see anything of Bulgaria there. You will see lots of shops and stalls selling the same tourist tat, lots of pubs and bars offering Sky Sports, so you can watch the football and they don't have any policy on smoking so you will encounter smokers everywhere, including in restaurants, most of which try to serve menus to please the tourists, be they Brit or German. Really depends what you want from a holiday, for stereotypical Brits abroad holiday stay on the resort (you might as well go to UK seaside town) for an idea of what Bulgaria is like you will have to venture further afield.
