Running discussion - experiences, tips, equipment, motivation, etc
@Gerrycan fair play for starting your own discussion it may well draw in some more members too it reads like youve had a pretty athletic life that just always had something in the way. i know exactly how that feels.. but youre pushing on to keep improving which is the most important part. re the the tip for the day - ive never suffered from it, but swmbo tends to get it almost chronically. non of the otc creams do a thing to it, rexkon its all total snakeoil tbh. so ill be asking her to try your tip

water water everywhere.... what a ****ty morning Jr woke up at 540am... eventually went back asleep at about 645am, i got out his room at 705.. at 720 i was standing in the shed, putting on my runners, still undecided about run or cycle in the absolute downpour rain. i picked bike, as at least my feet would be up out of the puddles. how was it? hilariously awful. no way i was going to try the hills, it wouldve just been swamp. so i planned on a riverside 20k. had to divert after 2.5k as the blueway paths were flooded, my runners were full of water after the first flood i didnt see in the dark. i fell off going around the corner just after coming off the blueway🙄 both tyres just slid on a 1inch thick layer of wet leaves on the path and that was that. felt it start, knew i was gone and just accepted it on my shoulder. managed to twist the saddle about 30° out of line when it landed on my thigh, and scratched the bejaysus out of my water bottle in my pocket (had the wrong one leaving to fit in the cage). got up and straightened the saddle as best i could and kept going, out onto the main road and did a lap of the town instead. bottle damage either way it was lovely to get out, with work going the way its been last week and start of this week i hadnt been out since Saturday last week..

its been a bad week... Sunday i was up and gone to work for a 12hr site shift at 615am, got home at 930om. mon to thurs i was on site at 11am until 800pm every day, not home until 930pm, then eat, and sort out the house stuff, bed and up in the morning to face the breakfast and school prep then go to work again. friday i got home early enough to have dinner with swmbo and the boys, for the first time in a week. weather yesterday morning was terrible, and we all had a lie in until 815am! today, i couldnt sleep last night.. i think the fact we moved spud jr into a junior bed from his cot for the first time had me on high alert for either a thump or him waking up and goinplaging with his toys m the middle of the night.. neither happened, he slept fine. so i was knackered this morning, and slept after the alarm went off. typically its a smashing morning, would have been a great dawn up the hills 🤦♂️

MG ZS
thanks for the warranty story, ill tell the brother in law - a) keep an eye on the body work b) watch for warranty issues and tough it out with them, have the argument... pretty sure its on finanace, so he should have a bit more support. whole thing was diamond coated, including the interior and upholstery so be interested to see how easy it is to it clean..

MG ZS
my brother in law bought one, friday evening! finally got shot of his pita insignia, 2 yrs after i told him get rid of it! its a 2021, ex demo with about 6000km on the clock. ive only driven it around the block here, and not looked into the spec etc, but... its comfy, well equipped, looks decent enough, boots pretty alright, though no Octy in terms of length. first time driving a BEV, its weird. he has the KERS at max, so wgen you lift off (at housing estate speeds) theres not much coastimg, it just starts to brake. gear knob is a dial, literally. twist to the left, reverse, neutral in the middle, drive to the right. didnt play with the infotainment or anything, and only got to do 50kph around the place, so no idea whats its like myself on a big fast road. 7yr parts and labour warranty, and hes booking in the home charger installation. couple of pics, i didnt take any of the outside... hes a fitness instructor, thus the "prowler" shoved into the back at the minute. ill keep up with him on how it goes, and what living with it is like, he did the maths and reckons hell save about 1900e in yr one against the diesel. plus he isnt turning the key wondering what will break today like i used to do with my inshi7nia..

and it looks like nasty asbestos roofs on the sheds 😬 any closer pgotos of the rail stuff? i xan see rail ends so looks like some sort of very shallow depth sleeper/bearer arrangement possi ly from a bridge deck or that they had an elevated loading/unloading bay there previously. probably for gather all the chicken ****e for transportation to a fertiliser plant or for unloading chicken feed by the wagon load?

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
been a few days! ive been running, same route, and same general time frames. still tryin to work on the heel stoke avoidance and some stuff from that aussie running article. today was a cycle day as its the weekend. up the big hill and w3st to the woods. was a decent time and enjoying it, until i was on the top loop of the woods and i met a man with his dog, all in camo gear, carrying a rifle... who informed ne there was himself and afew other lads out deer hunting.. as i didnt fancy having a high velocity .308 entry and exit hole in my brain box, i turned back to the main trail and baled out. annoying though as he said they had all the season signage up at the entrances.... nothing on the east approach i go in, and i didnt see anything out on the main routes in either... the spanners.

Happy with rolling road results.
its always been said that the black magic was an extra 10bhp. so these graphs prove that theory

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
yeah, i get ya. i felt the same during the experiment the other day avoiding heel strike. but id say the reat of my body was very much wrong. you use way calf running the "right" so need to watch that too, they get goddam sore after a while!

dont think about your feet... while trying to change your running texhnique inparticular how your feet land on the graphics/text yeah, i could read it fine on my phone, but the text scolling up over the graphic as it animates was slightly annoying. like someone had mis-set the animation timg on the scroll..

SRAM SX 12 speed shifter issue
i am really sorry to hear about your father passing away Edwards 😔 i hope you can get through the grief stages. brisky is nice in the some what anonymity if you need to offload anything you just want to lash out into the ether. on the shifter, yup, the plan is replace it as sram dont do parts for it going by a google search and long term if the derailleur starts acting the gowl the whole setup will be upgraded to a shimano set up. When i get the new one on, ll strip the old one and post up photos of the internals so anyone else who has the same problem will know whats broked and that changing is the easiest option.

Biceps tendon rupture, anyone 'been there'?
so it healed itself i to a super tendon?

SRAM SX 12 speed shifter issue
update.... i got a repy from the original retailer, the warranty is non transferable so i would need to get the first owner to lodge the claim, send him the broken shifter to send to them and then recerse it for getting it back etc etc... So I ordered a new sx shifter off decathlon today for €29 along with some light running beenies, and extra gloves. for a pretty cheap bit its worth the effort of gettin in touch with another lad at the otger end of the country and all the postage costs would outweigh the value of the part. at least then if the shifter sharts itself again, ill be going through decathlon myself, or.. upgrading to a shimano set up....

up and out in the dark again... 6k by the river with a teeny sliver of a moon on its hunkers as the sun was getting near the horizon. i did try one thing today... i consciously made a massive effort for the last 2k to avoid heel strike running. balls of toes only, like sprinting in slow motion... and bloody torture on the calves! im guessing ill be crying in the morning when the doms set in after that. it feels weird too, like it should be faster but also felt like everytime my foot hit the ground i was stopping my forward momentum a little bit... its odd. will try again next day, rest tomorrow... extra 45min sleep 😉

Moonlit riverside 6k just completed in over 34mins. Given the sun hasnt even gotten near the horizon it is chilly these mornings. but that doesnt slow me down, i think thats just my own brain not wanting to strain anything or do my knee, which did say hello after 5k. tad annoying...

@olduns i have a feeling i'll heading into the woods again rather than up the peaks too... the mud and rain yesterday made the climb near impossible... no traction anywhere

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
so i rewarded my on foot efforts during the week with an early start, in the dark, at 630am, on the bike and up the hills weather was awful... head wind gales blowing up the trails over the peaks. ground was soft, no traction, rain, fecking cold... but it was still fun coming back down...

rare one, but i think justified... recent works completed on one of our bridges, a full rope accessed vegetation removal, major instream scour protection works carried out (in a special area of conservation... thank god i wasnt involved in that bit) and also a deep ckean and repointing of mortar joints. 150 ish yrs old, its looking brand new other than the handrails...
