Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
i took christmas off.. got out last thursday for a middling 6k. was alright but near 32mins. this morning felt knackered while out, but when i got back i saw my time was 30m 50odd. a minute faster than thursday. im also changing my "sprint" gait, im trying to stretch out the stride and really push off for distance, rather than just faster leg movements on my short stride. seems to be working, i set a 2nd fastest 400m, 1/2miles and 1k! not sure where it was on the route, but surely it along the longer sprint bit plus either side of it. felt good 👍

Skoda octavia 1.9tdi mk1 90bhp power loss..wont revv past 3k rpm
okay, id definitely be checking every single vacuum and air hose etc for splits/ bad joints and the like really really closely. i think its losing boost pressure somewhere and is over fuelling trying to make up for it.

i set an alarm this morning - if woke up myself before it went off id get the bike out. if the alarm woke me it was a run. spud sr woke up 1 min before the alarm, so i went for a run. 6k, in the freezing cold in 31.54. not brilliant but not terrible. it was strange though, it was a clear sky and heavy frost but, there was a pocket of genuinely warm air along the last 300m of the route by the river. as in it felt like someone had a 2 bar heater on the go no breeze or anything just this weird heat. and its not like it was just the trees retaining heat from yesterday, it never got warm at all yesterday, and the sun is so low these days that bit of the river doesnt get much direct sunlight either. plus, its all tree lined for about 900m, but it was only along one section of it. turned and back up along the same way, and the temp just dropped again. weird..

are you parked and trying to rev past 3100, or is it stopping at that while driving? iirc some diesels have a "stationary" rev limiter so you cant over rev them. it sounds likely to be turbo related though, either a massive boost leak or internal damage

got a nice run on Monday and again on Tuesday. took my rest day on Wednesday and got out yesterday morning for another decent run. today... not so lucky. jr woke at 4am. but resettled himself. but woke again at 6am! and that was that. like a confused angry drunk, he wanted to sleep but didnt want to lie down eventually he nodded off again around 7, but thats just too late for me to get out

quick catch up.. between the post crash aches and weather warnings during the week i didnt get out again until Thursday morning. but courtesy of the weather warnings, the accesses to my 6k riverside route were closed by the flood barriers crews. so i had to invent a new 6k route on the western side of town. bit "hillier" as in theres 5small inclines compared to the almost flat riverside route. it also means more town footpaths - so dog eggs need more vigilance - and corners and road crossings that mean slowing down too. thus... 2 runs on thursday and friday were both about 32min for the 6k. noce runs though, just more awareness needed than along the unlit riverpath ironically.

Latest EV's with Tail Lights that are the whole width of the rear of the car. WTF is it with some Designers / Manufacturers?
i think it started with Audi putting that ridiculous full width high level brake light on the A7. it then morphed a bit from there into ridiculously shaped parking lights on other marques. and with EVs its because the designers all watched Tron at a conference and thought hey, that looks cool and futuristic.. like we want people to think about our EVs... lets do that!

oh its okay, the kerb tap was literally lighter than bumping ones head on a kitchen cupboard door. all the crash impact energy was already dissipated on the way across the road. mostly absorbed by my right forearm - i think it both stopped the bike and was my principle landing point. just the roughness of the kerb bevel split the skin. i was kepping an eye for signs of anything else during the day - headaches/dizziness/lethargy/pupil dilation/ loss of visual focus etc. i do be paranoid about the kids when they bonk their noggins and on the couple of occasions weve gone the gp for a confirmation of all ok, theyve been impressed by my level of monitoring but not in that "ohhh youve done that because you think your a doctor but your stupid" way they can sometimes, it was genuinely "welldone, youve kept an eye on a lot of stuff, if more people would do that and tell us life would be easier"

How do from Northern Ireland
do the Nordy boys use them as unmarkeds? better than the i40s our lads have to use for everything other than the Regional Support Units getting Q7s. (though there are a few tuscons starting to turn up outside stations..) i wonder are you far from @FUBAR?

thanks, yeah, still a bit tender, and the forehead is a bit swollen, but no Cmdr Worf levels of obviousness. i can cover it with my, over due a trim, hair. right elbow is annoying as i took the fall mostly to that side, so resting it on the arm of my office chair niggles. weathers been too ****e last couple of days to go anywhere now too 🤦♂️

Compatible ink cartridges
ive had mixed experiences with compatibles over the years. in my experience the brand of printer plays as much of a role as the pattern producer's product. my current canon TR4250 uses more ink on the compatibles than on oems. my last epson printed crap on compatibles. older HPs from my youth was 50/50 if they would even recognise the pattern ones, and those that did was a gamble on print quality. all were used regularly enough to avoid any drying out etc. i tried the refill yourself option once too, and it was messy. i was also young and maybe not as patient as that task requires, but it was just too much of a faff. Gaz them ones were definitely sent wrong.

Honey as part of your healthy eating.
honey is lovely. but... if i eat it out of the jar, cold.. happy out. if however it is heated or cooked into anything i get an incredibly bad cough for a few hours. no explanation as to why.. funny story though, my SIL loves honey and only buys local to her honey (it does work for her sons' hayfever). she and her partner were at a really lovely hotel a couple of yrs ago. they went down for breakfast and there was a big slab of honeycomb out on the buffet, and you literally scraped your own into a little bowl. she was over the moon. on the second morning she asked one of the staff where they were getting it as it was clearly local, and shed love to get some. they went to check and came back from the kitchens, looked under the serving counter and pulled out a box. inside the box was another vac packed honeycomb. fair enough for transport. and the teenage staffer says "Im not sure exactly where it comes from, but the shipping label has tokyo written on it". Sister in Law was gutted

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
Right today was a tough morning. i made the mistake of letting swmbo tell me some of the details of that horrific case in the UK with the 6yr old boy. i couldnt sleep! at all.. everytime i started to drift off i just got more visions of him and the utterly sadistic suffering. he was same age as spud sr and i just couldnt shake it out of my head. i think i slept about 90mins. got up and went for a run to clear my head, ended up running my 8km route, because i didnt want to stop... (and im man enough to say this) i had tears in my eyes 3 times when it came back i to my head space again. but i kept going and was handling the route quite well... until.... about 800m from home.... I was traffic checking, all clear and then went to cross the road at the pedestrian crossing, which i hardly ever cross at, only to be intercepted by an unlit bicycle. Wiped out the 2 of us, ive a cut up shin, knee, elbow, hands and dirty one in the middle of my forehead, (thankfully just on my hairline so i can cover it up so spud sr doesnt see it.) where i ended up banging my forehead on the kerb while rolling away from the collision to spread the impact. not hard enough be a concussion concern or anything but broke the skin nicely. i was rather displeased with the lad on the bike, and told him that i was.. only after i got home and had a wash i started to think the poor guy was probably on his way to work, likely feels really bad about it, and is just as sore as me, and i dont think i even asked him if he was okay. i soldiered on home, a bit a slower and did my 8k in 42mins 14sec. and im feeling achey now!

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
Right so, since the 15th of November when i last updated this, ive been running as many mornings as the previous nights' sleep will allow and also the early morning weather. i dont mind a bit of drizzle, but if its pelting down... feck that. my pace is staying reasonably consistent with some some improvements. and i added in a little extra twist. there are 2 sections about 100-200m long that i have started to use as "sprints" on my return leg. i need to strava them Into segments, havnt had time yet to see what my all out mid run pace is like. 2 reasons for it - total time drop and also a good lung burster to get more out of the run. its working, as i got down to 30m 4seconds for a 6k on Monday! then didnt get out again until friday morning..

Sinus/Ear Problems
yup, asthma can be a genetic trait. noone on my side of our familly has it that i know of, but it runs on swmbo's side. what kicks it off can vary though, and how it presents.

Sinus/Ear Problems
do ye be consuming much cow milk based dairy products? people assume lactose intolerance only affects the bowels/ stomach, but it can also cause sinus issues. both my missus and older son are on lactose free diets as both get heavy nasal congestion from it and swmbo sufers from sore throats from milk too.
