Front passenger door handle
pretty sure it just pops off if you get something flat under the top or bottom edges. edit.... sorry i thought i was in the mk1 section, 🤣🤦♂️. i usually check there then the mk2.. mustve mis-tapped. anyway, i cant imagine it being much different on the mk2...

Octavia mk2 both rear windows & lots of error codes
looking okay and being okay may not be the same. you really need to get a multimeter on it and continuity check them in case theres a split inside the insulation. you also really need to check the driver door one as thats got the most daily wear and also the most likely place to give an issue affecting many bits of the car.

Bike ride stats/Strava etc
managed to steal another cheeky bash with Senior today. we reversed the route we did the last day, and i brought a secret weapon.. it meant we got a farther than last day too. the downhill version of the dirt track.. but when you go downhill you have to go back up! and when your not quite 7 that can be hard. thus the secret weapon... a 3Tonne tow rope to get up the hill 🤣 daddy got a better work out than the distance would suggest

1.9tdi pd105 surging
its a lot easier for the engine to get up to the redline in 1st and 2nd though, its not under the same resistance through the gearing, so the issue mught be much more subtle/ unnoticeable in the ose lower gears. have a look at your fuel filter..... have you recently changed fuel supplier? it has this been going on long enough to not be "bad fuel" linkable to one specific filling station?

Vrs rear door panel removal advice please
did you count how many exposed threads were on the outer door pull cable "bolt" on the old one? nearly every time someone does this they get that step wrong (me included) and it will work twice and then stop again... too much slack or too tight and it will stop the mechanism from operating properly.

Octavia mk2 both rear windows & lots of error codes
im no expert but alot of those error codes could all be down to bad earthing. theres a few earth connectors around the car, i would start there and clean them all up and make sure the connections are all solid. then start looking at the wiring looms especially where they pass through door pillars and connection blocks for breaks, grays or water damage.

1.9tdi pd105 surging
try it with the maf unplugged, not just swapped over. doing that forces the car to assume a preset air flow rare and around that. it might not be "correct" but it should smooth out the rough/lumpy bits IF the maf is the problem.

Octavia turning over but won't start
any chance of getting it plugged into a diagnostic? my instinct says cam position sensor, or try unplugging the MAF

GTL (gas to liquid) Diesel in my 1.9TDI ASZ
give it the full rev range for a while and that should blow alot of the built up gunk etc out the back end, and bring it for its test. unless you have genuine cause for concern and youve kept up the general maintenance, i would imagine you shouldnt have much of a problem with your emissions test

Bike ride stats/Strava etc
brought Sr for a short blast in the woods... his bike is really not whats needed for where we ended up - in the slop - and i had to do a lot of : get off, dump bike, push him up the hill and let him go when he could, run back down the hill grab my bike and pedal up to usually catch him just he ran out out of steam again but he loved it, and it was good to get out. also a nice test fit of the boot carrier. need to look at instructions again though, see if i can get the higher mounting point as the front wheel was very very low.. didnt cop it when leaving the house due to the slope of the driveway. wrecked!

Comfort indicator wiring??
1500gauge clear plastic (damp proof course for building) and some scissors will make a set of membranes. some duct tape around where you need to make holes for door pull bars etc to reinforce them. i used pvc pipe jointing compound as an adhesive to stick it on, just make sure you dont leave a gap.

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
Tuesday was an over sleep morning... but i got out for a nice 8k on Wednesday. then i was a little getting up yesterday, so knocked it to a 6k. a 6k that ended really annoying. if you add them all up you get... 30mins 12seconds... i wouldve been sub 30mins except.. i had to slow up for 50yds as i approached a corner because there was 2 other giys approaching from the other side who i wouldve run i to if i kept my pace, and as they were going straight while i was turning left, i gave them right of way.... then ended up maintainng their slightly slower pace for the last 400m of my run to keep a responsible social distance between us 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ today was a 3rd day in a row after not great sleep sub 31 30 average meander down the 6k route, was tired...

GTL (gas to liquid) Diesel in my 1.9TDI ASZ
i had never heard of it until this thread. and after a quick, i dunno would i bothered going to that level. a couple of tanks of good quality diesel and a bottle of millers run through with a proper long "Italian Tune up" (ie rev the nuts off it for as long as possible in every gear) should do everything you need. if thats not enough then you need to go deeockeaning the engine or you have a running problem that no fancy fuel will solve

Given up: Water in drivers footwell
double check that membrane too. a tiny hole, or gap in the adhesive can let a strangely massive amount of water through.. might be having a look around the edge of the windscreen too i seem to remember someone having water getting in and eventually discovering the windscreen adhesive had broken down in the corner and water was getting through it.

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
thanks Gerrycan, yeah, its a bit... weird.. running moonlight and cloud reflected street lights, but i try to stay to the riverside path which is relative straight, and quiet at that time of day. the cold and wet can make it feel a bit miserable but makes finishing and having done it anyway that bit more rewarding for the day ahead.

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
got a 6k in this morning.. slept.... middling. jr woke up early in the night, and resettled pretty fast so i got back to my bed for a change, and slept, but i was dreaming all night... those dreams where when you wake up you feel like you were doing whatever it tha went on in the dream? so i nodded off again for 15mins when the alarm went off, thus a late start so shortened distance. nothing special, just glad to get out and try to keep the routine.

UK newspapers are warning readers that using gears wrong can get you fined.
in terms of things drivers seem unaware of - our L/A put a roundabout at the entrance to our estate during the summer. and i swear to god 80% of drivers seem to have forgotten how roundabouts work - ie that I have the right of way to enter the estate if coming from town over you, ****, heading towards town... on top of im pretty sure the number of speeding drivers o. the stretch of road has also increased... i watched a spanner in a 5 series get fairly squirrely while braking for the roundabout as i positioned myself to make it quite clear to him as he sped toward the r/about (id say 90kph in the 50 zone (55mph in a 30)) that "no numb nuts, i have priority not you..." and drove around in front of him as slow as i could without stalling... he was the 4th in the last week alone. on the specific articles above.. that reads like a really ****ty advertorial by the leasing company to try and increase internet traffic to the site and boost their own advertising revenue.. sites like that should be ddos'ed in to oblivion imo... you want more visitors? here have so many it kills your bs pedalling site, muppet.

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
ugh..... what an 'orrible night of not sleeping on spud jrs floor and in his 1400mm long bed.. but i eventually got out of there, at 625am. just in time for a run.. oh my good lord the wind was more like high velocity ice particles than air. i was also aware despite the black dark time of day, that the sky was clear, but there was a slowly approaching cloud bank that the forecast was saying is heavy rain on the way from the sth west. so i gambled but hedged it - 8k in under 45mins to get the extra distance but hopefully not be 3k from home on the 10k route when the rain got here. i got home dry other than sweat, but it was bloody baltic.

sepia or greyscale this one, and i reckon it would sell as an A1 canvas print for a few quid.
