  1. My 1970 Mk2 Cortina Delux had a 2000 E engine and auto gearbox fitted. I put it into a very solid wall. My 2.8 Auto Granada had Winter Remould tyres. I really would not want to be driving either these days. I do like a FWD car on tyres that hold the road, track straight and go around corners.
  2. Being able to code out the Brake Lights with Autohold would be of interest to many with newer cars. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/497760-code-out-brake-lights-on-autohold http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/433302-auto-hold-brake-lights
  3. From the Karoq manual not the Superb as i was looking at this. So the OP's car can not just roll when the driver / technician might want it to with the engine running. Interesting if true that that would be how the factory set it.
  4. You want 5w 30 FS III to VW 504 00 / 507 00. So what oil are they using?
  5. If you are doing fixed service intervals which early Fabia were then VW502 00 so 5w 40 FS was fine, or the VW 504 00 / 507 00, 5w 30 FS III. TSI's MPI's. Same as when Skoda gave the code that the engines could be Variable / Flexible Oil & Filter serviced. ........................... TDI's. require VW 504 00 / 507 00 For fixed or variable service intervals. Petrols.
  6. Traction Control / Anti Slip Regulation is usually what many switch off, as the constant nipping at brakes can be what puts you in a ditch or into a kerb. Not so bad if the car has traction with the tyres and surface but when slip sliding the TC can be hopeless. As the owners manual mentions, switch off to get unstuck when rocking back and fore or with snow chains fitted. From the Karoq manual.
  7. We need to remember that Euro 5 1.4 TSI with or without ACT are really pretty good, (they are still available in other world regions with an 8 speed auto.) and with a DQ200 DSG you take the risk, but the odds are on your side. With 1.5 ACT Euro 6 engines it is a matter of time telling how that goes and we are at that time now as they go out of manufacturers warranty, even ones with a GPF. Same with DQ200's fitted to them. Pretty much all are doing well It always takes 5 years to know how things are going to do after 5 years. The history of VW tells us that no matter if issues it is always just unlucky. Tough titty.
  8. I hope a Private Hire Car / Taxi gets serviced and maintained by a proper mechanic and has regular inspections. The suspension might well be sagged, and springs do break. Quite often when 'traffic calming measures, Speed reduction measures, AKA as Sleeping Policeman are driven at without care and attention or reducing speed. In the 'Good old days' you used to get Taxi versions of the likes of a Ford Sierra Estate or Granada. Harder Wearing interior, heavy duty suspension. My dad used to buy those as a tow car. I had Peugeot 504,s because a local Taxi firm ran a fleet of them, had a garage and parts. As it turns out they were good enough for the Taliban.
  9. If you look harder like at the Pinned thread on 1.8 & 2.0 TSI,s in the Octavia Mk2 section and maybe the Yeti 1.8 TSI's in this section with issues you will not take part in the lottery of a 1.8TSI unless you can rebuild engines. Overblown on the internet as people say, well not with Euro 5 1.8TSI's as fitted by Skoda. What service history is there with the car? When was the Haldex last serviced or how often since 2010. What about the spark plugs last replaced. Brake Fluid changed etc.
  10. I suspect someone will be along to help you on how the Auto Hold can be turned off. Probably not someone who's full time job is working at a Skoda Main Dealers where if they do not know answers they make them up, and then fail to resolve issues if there are any, like a car not performing or functioning as it should.
  11. @YodaSk3tilook at the pinned thread stated by me at top of Fabia MK2 section on the DQ200,s. The last pages especially. Sorry travelling so only online while charging car. Happy Christmas to all.
  12. Take care. The flashing spanner was more an issue with the late 2012 DQ200 that were not part of the 2st Service campaign. And built before those covered by the 2nd one. Hopefully someone can direct you to a good Auto Specialist. It is a minefield.
  13. Exactly. So Bob Flavin tells it like it is and Tim in the Vid. Honest John did and then VW Daimler Benz have Heycars and own Honest John. Lord Michael Heseltine's Haymarket Media Group so Autocar, Piston Heads are not ever going to say much. HMG even do VW Group Launches and the Lord was the middle man in VW buying Bentley.
  14. @ApertureSor @varooom might be able to comment.

  16. Is the car coming to you with tyres due replacing? Surely it is not cheaper replacing tyres before they need replaced. They really are not over tyred, it is what Skoda decided would suit a Fabia in the UK. The Mk2 only had 205 tyres on the Monte Carlo or vRS when on 17" rims. Some of us with them went to 215 tyres as VW, SEAT & Audi had them on the Polo, Ibiza or A1. Is it not best to see how the car is as it comes and change tyres when replacement tyres are required.
  17. Welcome. I think you were fleeced. But you now have some sort of warranty because you paid them, but they want to just replace parts. There is an issue here that you are in the hands of them, their Master Technician, or techs or fitters. Not a good thing sometimes with DSG's. ? Did Doncaster Skoda even do the job you paid for or contract it out to AN Other? ( A main dealer is not what is required right now it is an Auto Specialist with the experience and equipment required to work on your DQ200.) ** Can you find a trusted Auto Specialist you can go see and discuss with what has been done, they can plug in, read the Codes or not, road test the car and advise.** You missed saying how many miles covered. You might have needed new Clutch Packs. You might have needed fork selectors you might still need fork selectors. There are risks. To your pocket and life and others in the car so have it dealt with. Losing drive on the road, in an outside lane as an example. ( Not important now, but i am nosy, so, Was your DQ200 in since 2014 for Service Campaign '34F7' which was to change the Synthetic Oil to mineral and do a software update? There should be a sticker in the spare tyre well showing '34F7' and who did it and when.) You might need a MCU, but maybe you can have your MCU refurbished / upgraded if that is the issue. New ones are not improved over what is fitted, they are like for like. The issues / faults / failures are the same if a 1.2, 1.4 or 1.8 petrol or a 1.6 TDI, 2009-2012, (then issues 2012-2015. 'Service Campaign' '34H5 applies to them.) ..................... My pals sad tale. This was a 2012 Dq200 though. There are similar stories right through the past decade. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/444617-7sp-dq200-dsg-failure http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/470361-mk2-fabia-vrs-gearbox-problems http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/478695-dsg-issues
  18. Welcome. Who has being doing the servicing up to now and how well has that been done is what matters. So it very much depends what is done now by what was done previously, so in the past years & at 90,000, 80,000, 70,000 or 60,000 miles. Is there a service record / file of work because Main Dealer Servicing might mean little was done unless the owner was paying for the additional work. When was the pollen filter, or air filter changed, the spark plugs, or even inspected / checked, or the oil & filter, or he brake fluid changed, or any servicing of the brakes? When was the strength of the Anti Freeze tested. Service it as required.
  19. Even if the tyres were 2 mm more on a sidewall i doubt that would help it sometime hitting humps. It is an Octavia so the same height as other Octavia or other similar sized passenger cars. If you want a middle size family car to use as a taxi with more ground clearance i can not really think of many or any really.

  21. Best just keep the car well serviced and that is about as good as it gets for economy. As for performance that is much the same. Not even sure that using E5 super unleaded 97 or 99 ron will make a difference. Depends where you buy your petrol and what the E10 costs you. Narrower tyres might save you some fuel when you are changing the tyres next.
  22. At any point was there sparks during the fitting of the battery,? Was the new battery being fitted just because the old battery was at end of life and failing to start the car?
  23. @LeeWevWelcome. What trim / model of Kamiq have you got?
  24. Many. ? So is it no ignition lights, no life, nothing? ? Where did the battery come from, was it tested, who fitted it? Give us a clue or two.
