  1. Your friend can check the Brake Fluid for H2o content with a tester. They can inspect the brakes and service pre or post winter. They can check tyres as you can. Clean or replace Air Filter. Check and clean or replace Air Filter. Change spark plugs when due. Check wipes, lights etc. Lubricate door hinges, locks etc and condition door seals / rubbers. It is all basic stuff, have fun doing it. Engine dependent for Timing belt, gearbox and stuff.
  2. PS. Forget all the Up-selling at Motor Choice or the likes. 'Paint protection Treatment' on a used car. £30 or less of product and time multiplied by 10 sometimes in cost to you. Tell them to deal with scratches and chips properly and polish or wax the car. Not just do Kerb Side auto touch up / colour match that just wipes off. Fabric protection on a used car. A daft Warranty extension if a car has not got the correct service history, and they do not even know if remapped. All of the above on the Finance and costing you a fortune and earning them a lovely commission.
  3. VAQ, The trick front diff that Dealerships are saying servicing of is optional. If it is fitted it needs oil changes. Their brains seem to be missing a few options. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/494489-front-differential-service-vrs-245 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/482132-vrs-245-vaq-diff-servicing http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/506207-dsg-service-intervals
  4. I see the difference between countries. My partner is Hungarian and her Son in Law has a Skoda Octavia. The UK is a rip off and Hungary even more so. So weather does make a difference but then you have no sea coast, and are not as far north as parts of the UK, not even the south and you get hotter and colder weather, But the cars are not made of chocolate, so just get the car serviced properly, and do not get ripped off.
  5. Welcome. What engine have you got? You have left it to 16,000 miles this time, are you leaving it the same again or are you going to service / do oil and filter changes each year now. & have stuff done, not just looked at and reports as with a Skoda Main Dealer? Use a trusted friend or garage, and the correct oil, fluids and parts. So, the prices you show are, Way too expensive, and not all required @ 2 years / 16,000 miles anyway. **** EDIT. I see your link has LOOKERS covering cars from 1 year old. **** > ? What is your Warranty situation, is it a 2 year manufacturers warranty? You are quoting UK prices for Fixed Price Service & Maintenance at participating dealers on 3-10 year old cars on ;Fixed Servicing', so best ignore that. ***See my Edit above'.**** so still over priced. The £35 Pollen filter costs less than £15. Maybe change that your self. In the UK the Brake fluid advice / Manufacturers recommendation is @ 3 years then each 2. So give that a miss at 2 years in Hungary.
  6. If the car has had Official Dealership servicing they can call that up, even though they are not VAG dealers. As to the Service History the car does have, they know what they know as they bought the car. Ask all the questions. Get them to print out what they have and what they have done pre sales, & are there 2 or 3 keys with the car. VAQ due 3 years / 30,000 miles. Overdue if not done.
  7. Low miles for 1988. Just a bit of corrosion not weakened. On a SORN so as long as the Private Parking is not at a place open to the public no issues, so the land is private.
  8. First consider the car has a GPF. That might be something or nothing to do with it. ? How many miles has the car done and have you had it from new? ? How do you use it as in how far does it go with cold start trips, in town or out of. If you are running using E10 95 ron petrol maybe try a tank or 3 of E5 97 or 99 ron. As long as the car is running OK and just condensation and then running rich and blowing out some soot give the car a bit of an Italian Tune up/ Spirited drive once the oil is heated up to operating temp. Maybe regularly. .......................... This might be useful in the future. But that could depend on how the car is used.
  9. Business Secretary Grant Shapps MP made an announcement that somehow passed me by. http://www.gov.uk/government/news/uks-first-large-scale-merchant-lithium-refinery-announced
  10. Someone with mechanical knowledge will be along. This post from you on 13th Nov might be relevant somehow. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/456733-loose-gear-stick-after-something-snapped Sorry no idea what on time means as far as the servicing. What mileage your car has done, if the fuel filter has been done, the air filter and other stuff other than oil and filter changes. If all is well that way then good and the battery is strong then great.
  11. People who are buying a keeper spec them as they want and might still own them so they are not going to Auction or back to Dealers or to traders. The likes that might get advertised for sale on here. Briskoda cars for sale. Bad ones can get flogged, as in sold, WBAC, Motorway, just, punted / flogged, maybe flogged to death as a lease cars. Rented and back and in the Motor Trade. FMDSH which means nothing as Main Dealers might not Service to Manufacturers Recommendations, Guidelines or Schedules, even cars on a SERVICE PLAN. Good ones traded in by members here might be advertised someplace and someone here can maybe vouch for that car.
  12. @Mattyboy91 Where are you hearing about them being a bit ropey. Is it on forums, in magazines or from some VW / Skoda Tech or a mechanic, or other sources? Those who know nothing about them. Plenty owners and past owners on here. The Car needs to have been Serviced properly, DSG & VAQ done when due etc. Raced or Rallied or booted occasionally not an issue really. It is only a Big Warn Hatch after all. Fabia 1.6 TDI Euro 6 Defeat Device Skoda emission cheaters are a whole other kettle of fish. VW Group disgrace. PS Buyers of newer Octavia and other Skoda's need be 'Buyer Beware' because VW Group took IT in house, and are penny pinching unbelievably. Then in total denial when there are issues with Build / Quality Control. Poor Dealership responses.
  13. @J.R. it is, 'Can't be arsed'. Which is a fair enough. Not many can be, but some try it. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/505957-looking-for-a-skoda-yeti/page/2
  14. Hopefully someone can help. ? So what engine , petrol or diesel. Is it well serviced and the battery in good condition / state of charge? Putting in gear and turning the wheel to the kerb and applying the parking brake is a good thing. That should not inhibit a car starting.

AWD with Staggered Tyres in many cases or even RWD only. Then lighter but still heavy EV's compared to to a smaller ICE with FWD and narrow tyres like a ZOE can go through tyres quick.
  16. Less risky. Battery condition can be checked far easier than an engine in an ICE. Most EV drivers are nor stupid and are not charging to 100% with ones they own, maybe not Rapid charging either. Those like me with a car with a small battery and crap range might be. Those Business / Commercial drivers of lease cars, or Motability owned EV's might not be. 'I do not care', just as i never did with my last TDI on a lease from Motability'. Do not get landed with my EV when it goes to auction, but then it is probably staying with me beyond the 3 year lease unless the battery condition does become poor with my charging to 98%.
  17. Lord Brownlow and others are far too invested into EV's/ Subscription. Then there is land, property development and maybe more building out of cities that the 'smart money' & the like of peers and politicians have vested interests in . Plebs will be driven off the roads if they think they can run ICE vehicles since they had Air Bags as standard well, easily 1970's into 90,s. then emissions or other items can catch out newer ones.. Too many cars have out of date ones fitted. (they can legislate) MOT and Insurance changes can do what politicians want & get cars scrapped. Keeping them out of cities, towns and even villages will not be that difficult. Scrappage & incentives for those that might already have money and tough luck if you have not. Just like help with Home Improvements / energy saving. http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/environment/2022/11/25/ultra-low-emission-zone-will-be-expanded-london-wide Edinburgh. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-63701218 http://www.eva.scot/news/article/plans-for-europes-largest-ev-charging-hub-in-edinburgh-office-development
  18. ULEZ will expand London wide. August 29, 2023 http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/environment/2022/11/25/ultra-low-emission-zone-will-be-expanded-london-wide
  19. Do that. because a person with a keyboard can be anyplace around the world. And Communication Managers and Resolution managers at Skoda / VW UK need not know that much about cars or much else. Default is deny, put off, rubber you, put you back in the hands of the dealership, wear you down. eg. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/502758-dsg-advice-request http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/508567-suggestions-on-where-to-purchase-a-spare-car-key http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/508519-advice-on-7-speed-gear-box
  20. If you have a 1 or 2 year old Skoda so under 3 years old & on Fixed or Variable servicing then maybe ignore the Skoda Fixed Price Servicing & Maintenance prices given for cars 3-10 years old at Participating dealers. Get the deal you can on your under 3 year old car from what ever Dealership / Authorised repairer.
  21. 'They' say a characteristic. It is an Engineering fundamental fail. Not all do it, and people would not accept if they all did. Those that really have issues should not be accepted by anyone who buys a car expecting it in this day and age to behave correctly, but then Dealership staff and others are panning them off with the 'They all do that', or Never seen that before'. Basically they could not give a fig.
  22. Guest_ replied to classic's topic in Skoda Enyaq
That will change quickly, as EV,s are global as are tyre manufacturers. Lots getting EV's can not stay on the ECO EV Range achieving crap tyres. Things get lost in Translation, English, UK English or RoW English. 'All season' 'All Weather', Winter Tyres, Snow Tyres. There are places where you are required to have on Certified 'Winter' tyres, and carry or be able to fit Snow Chains and that includes countries in Europe. So suitable EV All Season / Winter tyres will be required. 3PMSF / (Three Peak mountain snowflake symbol.)
  23. Hopefully any Directors of CARRS SKODA BRIDGWATER will came across this thread or the reviews of their business. Also Skoda UK / VW UK's Brand Director. MATTHEW BOWDEN @ SKODA UK. http://linkedin.com/in/matthewbowden2 Or the Marketing Director KIRSTEN STAGG . http://linkedin.com/in/kirsten-stagg-750a1159/?originalSubdomain=uk http://skoda.co.uk/dealers/carrs-somerset http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/34715-carrs-skoda-bridgwater/page/2 All publicity is good publicity.
